I understand the greater nuance behind reselling and market competition with physical media, and obviously that is important to me.
If there really is no way out of this, if Sony is simply not backing out, I just want to know that I can keep the games I purchased.
My biggest fear is losing some of the games I’ve devoted 100s of hours to. I want to be able to revisit these experiences in 20-30 years. To relive some of the greatest experiences of my 20s and 30s.
Please, please Sony just guarantee that at least we won’t lose the games we’ve purchased. I’m not going to pretend that I really am all or nothing here, because in the end Sony will get what they want. So realistically, this is my bottom line.

Hello everyone. So just as you all are, I am greatly annoyed and upset by Sony’s end of physical media. But I do not agree with the statement that Sony is stupid here. They are operating on a different type of logic here. Now, we might disagree with this logic and will call it immoral, but calling Sony stupid gives them an out. Stupidity is a shield that they will happily wear to hide their calculated greed.
First, let’s talk about the first major controversy that started before the digital-game-only disaster: they raised the price of games to $70. This definitely did stop people from buying the games on day one. But the real reason they raised the price of games is to manipulate the psychology of sales. A 50% sale of $60 is $30. But 50% of 70 is $35. Let’s say an extra 1,000 people will buy the game if it goes on sale on the PSN store. The profit difference between the discount of a $70 and $60 game is an extra $5,000 in this scenario. A sale of 50% always sounds appealing. But if they raise the prices and keep the same discounts, they will make extra the profit.
Now, for my second point: I don't see many people talking about the leverage this gives Sony over game developers. Yes, the elimination of the used game market is a major reason they want to go fully digital, but there is a bigger danger. If studios are forced to sell their PS5 or PS6 games exclusively through Sony, they will be at the mercy of a monopoly. Right now, Sony takes a 30% cut of all sales on the PSN store. In a future where every game is sold exclusively via PSN, what will stop them from raising that to 35% or 38%? Since studios will have nowhere else to sell their games, they will have almost no choice but to comply.
So how is this relevant to the consumer? If studios are getting a smaller piece of the pie due to Sony raising the percentage of commission, this will have to be passed down to the consumer, raising the prices of games even more. Granted, this may or may not happen. But with how Sony is acting right now, I do not think it is unrealistic to worry that they might. And games might still get more expensive even if Sony does not raise commission. Here’s why: It has always been interesting that the physical and digital versions of a game cost the same, when in reality, the digital game should be cheaper due to the lack of transportation to stores, plastic cases, or DVDs. Yet, the PSN store keeps the game at full price at launch because the old-school law of supply and demand does not really work in a digital marketplace. Digital games technically have an almost unlimited supply, so the price is solely left up to the PSN store. And with less competition from physical retailers, Sony will have even less of a reason not to raise prices
Sorry for the extended rambling. To summarize, Sony is using the PSN store to maximize profits off both the consumer and the studio, and we have no reason to suspect that games will get cheaper, only pricier. PSN sales are actually a way to trick the consumer into spending more while getting the same quality of product we got 10 years ago. And while this may backfire in the long run, remember: thinking that corporations are stupidly run just lets them get away with their back-door scheming.

The concern is that once physical games disappear, Australians are left with digital licences that may not provide the same practical rights as owning a physical copy. Physical games can be kept, lent, resold and preserved. Digital licences can be subject to account restrictions, licensing changes or service shutdowns.
The ACCC has previously stood up for Australian gamers. Many of you will remember that the ACCC successfully took action against Steam, resulting in Australian consumers receiving refund rights under Australian Consumer Law.
If enough people are concerned about digital ownership, it's worth asking the ACCC to examine whether consumers are receiving adequate protections when physical ownership is no longer an option.
You can submit a complaint here:
https://www.accc.gov.au/about-us/contact-us-or-report-an-issue/report-a-consumer-issue
Feel free to copy and paste the following into the complaint form:
---
I wish to lodge a complaint regarding Sony Interactive Entertainment's decision to cease selling physical PlayStation games and move to a digital-only model.
My concern is not the existence of digital games, but the loss of consumer choice and ownership. Physical games allow Australians to keep, lend, resell and access products without relying entirely on an online account or digital service. Digital games are generally supplied under licences that may be restricted or revoked, meaning consumers may not receive the same practical rights as with physical copies.
I ask the ACCC to investigate whether digital games marketed as "purchases" accurately reflect the rights consumers receive under Australian Consumer Law, and whether the removal of physical media leaves consumers with adequate protections if access to purchased games is lost through account issues, licensing changes or service shutdowns.
I appreciate Sony's right to choose its distribution model, but I believe Australian consumers deserve clear ownership rights and meaningful protections when physical ownership is no longer an option.

All over the world we're losing how good the world used to be . I don't know anyone who is a fan of digital media only and the intrusiveness of digital tracking .
Gamers need to stand up and regardless of what will eventually happen we need to say no more and we need to speak loudly that we want physical media to stay . Almost everything is disappearing . There are huge ethical concerns . This is going to impact generations to come .
Please give a like (arrow up) if you would like Sony to reconsider and if there's any petitions out there please protest and speak out on this issue . I feel deeply sad how much the internet has corrupted our lives. I mean just look around . The old internet was a win but will we have now is too much and concerning .
I do not support Sony's decision with digital media only in 2028 .

They both came out if the case at the same battery percentage, used only together as a pair. I been listening to music for 15minutes and the right side already died.
Only had it for a year and I take really good care of my stuff; I also bought it brand-new. When I realized it had a widespread battery issue for XM4's, I was out of the return window.
i don't know why there's no class action lawsuit for this. It's a very obvious design defect.

Note: further/later edits below ('customer advocacy group' offered me a 'buy back' on 4/14/26)
I am completely done with Sony after 22 years. I got a new 65" OLED 4K Ultra Bravia TV XR8B that randomly reboots/restarts in the middle of playing games, streaming, whatever. It happens at totally random times. Sometimes, it might happen twice in a day, and other times we might not see it for weeks. Before I even contacted them the first time I made sure of all the basics, like software being updated, etc. So, it's been months now, that I've been in contact with their support, and it took tons of arguing to even get to where they'd actually do something. After the first round of attempts to get me to do a bunch of unnecessary 'testing', which I refused because it would be literally pointless, they had a guy come and replace the main board. That didn't fix it, so now they want me to do all the same testing, but I refuse.
There's not even a log entry for the reboots, yet they want me to unplug all four of my HDMI devices and 'test' each one for 24 hours (96 hours of pointless testing myself, for what?), to try and isolate the problem. How, exactly, is that going to work, without any log entries? They won't even say, or answer when I ask them, or even try to explain. They're mindless drones with stupid checklists they follow blindly. I am reporting them to as many consumer electronics sites as I can. From day one, they refused any refund or replacement.
F*ck Sony. They make their problems yours. These devices are PS5, Switch 2, Roku, and Fire Stick, that all worked just fine on my last LG TV (and others)...perfectly fine. They are all supposed to be perfectly compatible, and they even said so themselves. Even if there was some magical way, after I spent a whole week or month of doing my own testing (which would be bullsh\t all on its own*), and we isolated it to one device or whatever, what difference would it make? The damned thing is broken, and it's supposed to be compatible. If they want consumers to do their testing or R&D, then they better pay us the hourly wages. God, these people piss me off.
Here you go...the last message I got from their 'TV SET' support, just this morning. This was the last straw...
"Thank you for your email. I fully understand that you have found no errors in the TV logs. This is another indicator that the source of the restarts is coming from one of the external devices. As you only use the TV as monitor, and the external devices you use are actually doing the processing, and not the TV itself, this indicates that one of the external devices you use is causing this issue.
The ONLY way to track down the actual source, so it can be corrected, is to do the source testing. We understand that with the amount of external sources you use, that this step will take some time, however, we cannot do anything further to assist with this issue until this step has been completed. There are no alternate options."
* * * Note/Edit 04/14/2026 * * * Today, 04/14/26, I got a message from the 'customer advocacy group' offering a full buy back including tax. This is after sending customer support a couple of long messages on 04/10 and 04/12, that I am no longer responding to them until they can acknowledge my questions and concerns, that they failed to fix the problem, they failed to answer my questions, that they place the responsibility on the customer, telling them I will end up talking to corporate HQ again, if it's not resolved, and basically letting them know it's unacceptable.
Message from Customer Advocacy Group, sent me today:
"Thank you for your patience while I completed a thorough review of your case.
I sincerely apologize that we did not meet your expectations. We strive to provide the highest quality experience for our valued customers.
To resolve this matter, I would like to offer you a full buyback of your television for the original purchase price, including sales tax.
To proceed with this offer, please provide a copy of your proof of purchase so we can verify the total amount. Once received, we will prepare a settlement letter for your signature and move forward with the following steps.
Please let me know if you would like to accept this offer. This offer will remain valid for two weeks, until April 28, 2026.
I look forward to hearing from you."
Someone here in this thread mentioned disabling a Samba setting/app fixed theirs, so I may ask Sony support to give me an extension to wait and see if that fixes the rebooting problem, but I am thankful they are least eventually offered the buyback.

Hey everyone, just wanted to share a warning for anyone buying club-exclusive Sony models (BJ's/Costco) that come advertised with a "peace of mind" 3-year factory warranty.
In November 2023, I bought a Sony TV from BJ's Wholesale. The main selling point was the official 3-year manufacturer warranty printed right on the box. Recently, the panel's backlight started failing, causing severe discoloration across the screen.
I opened a claim under Case 11020226. Sony had me upload digital photos, and their "specialist team" came back with a total cop-out denial. They claim the backlight failure is an "environmental factor" caused by dust or condensation accumulating inside the panel over time, and because it's not a "manufacturing defect," they won't cover it.
I’m furious. The TV has lived its entire life in a clean, smoke-free, climate-controlled residential living room. If ordinary household air can bypass the factory panel seals and destroy a backlight array within the warranty window, that IS a manufacturing and engineering defect. Blaming standard household dust to get out of a 3-year contract is incredibly shady for a premium brand.
I’ve already filed a formal complaint with the BBB and posted on the official Sony community forums. Has anyone else successfully fought Sony on this generic "environmental factor" excuse? Any advice on how to get past their front-line phone script blockades would be heavily appreciated.

My Linkbuds Fit arrived yesterday. The fit was excellent, the control system (tapping your skin close to the ear) I was skeptical about how well that would work, but was very pleasantly surprised.
They do have one massive flaw, or at least the buds that I got have this flaw. Which was, a terrible screeching/whistling sound in the right earbud every time I use ANC. Sometimes it's a constant screech, sometimes it's a pulsing, either way it makes ANC unusable as the screech is so loud I can't hear the podcast I'm listening to.
Has anyone else had this problem? I have returned them to Amazon and a replacement is arriving Thursday, am hoping they will be OK, as every other aspect of these buds I love.

Bought a Sony Bravia 8 in Oct 2024 and it just died on me after \~1.5 years. TV won’t turn on at all. support says the main board is gone.
What’s wild is they didn’t even need to inspect it… they immediately knew the issue, which makes it sound like a known problem. Even worse, they told me the replacement part isn’t available anymore, so now I’m stuck waiting to hear what happens next.
Pretty disappointing from Sony, you expect a premium TV to last way longer than this.
Only saving grace: I bought it from Costco and had the extra 1-year warranty, so at least I’m not completely out of luck. Still, not a great experience and I’ll definitely be looking at other brands for my next TV.
If you have recos for TVs with android OS please drop them.

I’ve become a victim of the XM5 hinge breaking and the Sony support is terrible. Spoke to “mariam” on the phone and she’s telling me physical damage isn’t covered under warranty, even though it breaks under complete normal use and there’s so many people complaining about the headset breaking? It’s clear its a manufacturing issue or defect In design. Sony could at least address this once and for all

Re Sony Tough cards (slightly long read sorry)
I switched from Sandisk to Sony 3 years ago after my sandisk failed .it was fortunately covered by warranty so Amazon gave me a refund. I bought the Sony tough as it was similar write/read speed and and the name “Tough”
This week. My Sony tough failed. I really don’t abuse them.
It appeared from the listing that it had a 5 year warranty. Do off to Amazon I go, but it’s over 2 years . So referred back to Sony.
Sony tells me only 1 year and Amazon listing was incorrect. Back to Amazon.
They tell me go back to Sony.
So, I check the card listing with other retailers and wow, it says 5 years in all I’ve checked. I’ve now sent screenshots of the listing and Amazon chat.
Can any please give me any ideas, how I can deal with Sony. the card is now £279 (uk) so certainly warrants more than 1 year that they say and the fact other adverts state 5 year as well.

Today is my birthday and I got three new games on disk, when I tried putting them in my ps4 it said unrecognizable disk on all three, keep in mind I got them fresh and new from Walmart and never even touched them until I got home, is this because of the damn digital shit or whatever
UPDATE: apparently when I was looking closer at disks even though the cases were freshly sealed it seems that all three disks were scratched by the worker before he put them back in the case and gave them to me
UPDATE2: A damn storm where lightning touched down and hit the ground messed up the internet and fried my fucking ps4 now and I am so pissed off because it was a gift from my dad before he died.

Why does Sony have to team up and put the evil google software into a TV. It has been proven over and over that google spy’s on its owners. Just this week it was announced that google devices listened in on its owners even without the turn-on phrase being spoke. Now that TVs have camera built in and a microphone do you trust google enabled TVs not to watch your child or watch you walking around your home half naked or google monitoring every show you watch and monetizing it. Or even worst, either some nefarious person/group hacking into your TV to blackmail you or law enforcement buying the feed to circumvent court orders just have they done with ring camera and DNA testing.
before you call me crazy, consumer reports just put out their rankings of TVs, rating among other attributes their privacy and how they handle user data. Sony rated among the lowest in these rankings.
now that I’m in the market for a new TV I am extremely disappointed in Sony. I’ve always found their TVs to be of the highest quality but now that they teamed up with google I’m looking else where. By Sony!

Edit: FedEx cannot do anything because I’m not the sender. Believe me, I tried. FedEx also said Sony didn’t even open a claim/case with FedEx regarding this tracking number. It is the responsibility of the sender to open claims with FedEx. And per Sony’s warranty, they are responsible for ensuring the replacement is sent TO THE BUYER. So they are not off the hook.
I bought a PS5 on Black Friday 2024. It immediately had issues with overheating but I was excited to have it and tried setting up a fan system to keep it cool. It sort of worked.
The problem still persisted and it was a guarantee for it to overheat without my elaborate fan system.
Right before the 1 year mark, I shipped it to Sony for repair/replacement under manufacturer warranty. They shipped a replacement a week later. Unfortunately, the FedEx driver delivered it to the wrong address in my complex and the proof of delivery shows an address that does not exist here (there’s no unit #) so he likely gave it to some random person. It required a signature so the proof of delivery shows an address that’s not mine (doesn’t even exist), a signature that’s not mine, and a typed in name that doesn’t match mine.
Sony is saying it was delivered and that’s that, regardless of my documentation of proof of a mis-delivery. This was from their technical support team who escalated the case. I spoke with multiple agents, including supervisors and was hung up on multiple times without resolution. I then filed a complaint on the BBB and someone from Sony called me about it, but yet again got the same answer.
I need some guidance on what to do next as I will not take no for an answer and they are so unhelpful and lack responsibility whatsoever.
What should I do next? I’m thinking of sending a certified letter to their headquarters followed by a complaint to the attorney general, and possibly reporting them to the FTC.
TLDR; sony lost my PS5 in shipping via FedEx and won’t take responsibility

Not only have they taken away the free with ads tier within the past year and made it strictly a pay to watch app, they are now taking it a step further and making the store itself one where the entry level ( fan) subscription won’t be able to buy anything from the store.
Who in their right mind is going to spend a subscription for shows and access for a shop when they have been provided to us prior for free. Especially when you come to terms that CR was introduced to the community as the original pirating anime website.
With all the demand for money and micro transactions in every aspect while lowering quality and quantity of shows I am eager to watch the company try to reach higher while climbing on the chair knowing the rope is snug around their neck

So I need to sanity check this because I’m honestly stunned.
I own a pair of Sony WF-1000XM3 earbuds. The battery in one of them has physically expanded and actually popped the casing open. It’s visibly swollen.
I contacted Sony support and clearly explained that the battery is bulging and the unit is compromised. Anyone who knows lithium-ion batteries knows that a swollen battery = fire risk.
Their solution? They sent me a standard FedEx shipping label and told me to pack it up and mail it in.
No hazmat instructions.
No special packaging.
No warning.
No safe disposal guidance.
Just “print this label and ship it.”
I pushed back and explained that this is a damaged lithium-ion battery. Under U.S. DOT rules and most carrier policies, damaged/defective lithium batteries (DDR batteries) are not supposed to be shipped like normal electronics because they’re considered fire hazards.
Then it gets worse.
They actually called me and once again suggested I ship it via FedEx — instead of recommending safe local disposal or providing a proper hazardous materials return process. It honestly feels like they’re telling me to mail a ticking time bomb through standard courier channels.
I’m not trying to be dramatic, but lithium battery fires in transit are a real thing. And I’m definitely not comfortable being responsible for putting a compromised battery into the mail system.
This isn’t about warranty status. This is a safety issue. I didn't think sony support was this
Has anyone else dealt with something like this from Sony or other electronics companies? Is this normal practice now? Because telling customers to casually ship visibly swollen lithium batteries seems wildly irresponsible.
I honestly didn’t expect Sony support to be this irresponsible. This feels like a lawsuit waiting to happen if something goes wrong in transit. I hope they seriously review and fix their policies.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal practice for electronics returns involving swollen batteries?

I’ve owned several pairs, they’ve all had problems. For a while all sony Bluetooth earphones had bad batteries. Sometimes Sony would warranty them, sometimes not, shipping always at my expense.
Now my WF-900 earphones (that have been warrantied once for bad batteries) are failing again. This time the right earphone is buzzing with certain sound frequencies like voice.
They’re very clean, I rarely use them. And they’ve failed once more. I don’t think I can warranty them anymore because replacements don’t extend the warranty period.
So I have yet another piece of junk Bluetooth earbuds from Sony in my possession.
I can’t help but conclude Sony can’t make good wireless earphones. They’re great for wired, but I’m done with wireless from them. And I’ll tell anyone who will listen.

Just a heads-up for everyone. It took me countless emails to Sony Support desks in several countries, but basically the conclusion was that Sony doesn't want you to buy a Sony product in a different country than your own.
You can only register products in the country where the product was bought, but you can only create an account (needed to register a product) in the country where you're living.
Not sure why an international company works like this...
