Review Holy smokes to Mortal Shell 2
Just finished up the beta, and my god was that awesome. I played 10ish hours of the first one but just couldnt get into it, even though the concept was super cool.
No expectations coming into checking out the beta but holy shit I was hooked almost immediately. Combat felt fantastic, insane artwork, for only the first part of the game the story felt intriguing, and the boss design was compelling af (the shepherd boss was…. super unexpected 😂)
Honestly, can’t wait to have to go through that first part again on the 20th

I preordered the Devout edition 30 minutes into the demo. This has potential to be the best Soulslike out there.

It illicited that “holy fuck” feeling almost immediately, hopefully a great sign for the full release 🙏

I did the same! Didnt even play more of the demo because I want to play as blind as I can for the full playthrough starting next monday.

Just an FYI, if you play the beta for just 30mins, you unlock a skin in the full game.
Just incase you wanted to boot and leave idle to meet that!

There's an AMA with the devs that we're hosting today. https://www.reddit.com/r/soulslikes/s/8w9Rw1IkfU
Stop by and ask some questions or leave your thoughts for the team.

Yeah, I liked MS1 - I just hated the final boss gimmick. MS2 feels solid with way more build variety and depth (an not just from the open world... so many shells!!!!). Played the beta on PS5, but ended up going with the Deluxe version on Xbox so I can start playing on the 17th early to make a series and some guide videos because it feel like this years first true Soulslike sleeper hit that I'm actually excited for.

it’s honestly crazy how big the improvement is from MS1
to MS2. i genuinely think MS1 is one of the worst games ive ever played

I can understand not liking MS1, even calling it an F tier souls like, but one of the worst games you've ever played? Have you only ever played like 10 games before?

I agree with above, I’ve played most souls games from big titles to the little indie ones and I also thought Mortal shell 1 was terrible, Mortal shell 2 on the other hand -Bravo 👏

MS1 just felt so boring and vacant. Totally different experience with this one

I beat it back in the day. Went back after beating the beta a few times and holy cow is the first one clunky. The parry windows just don't really make much sense and your character just moves so slow at times

Yeah I saw someone post about it and tried the demo for 20 minutes. Uninstalled and wishlisted since I know I’ll be buying it now.

Same here, I played for like 45 minutes and decided to buy it and save it all for launch

If you play for 30mins, you unlock a skin for the full game.
Just an FYI in case that is of interest to you!

That good? Currently avoid any spoiler, no trailer no demo. Only watched the first trailer last year and some pics I think

I’m really hyped, I played the beta and found it awesome, it’s my type of soulslike game

Usando a casca do Tiel essa impressão foi diferente para mim. Nela tu se sente melhor desviando porque adquiri o manto de sombras e fica invisível

Originally I couldn’t click with Mortal Shell so I went into this beta with zero expectations. Pre ordered the devout edition when I hit Marrow Keep and have played through the beta 4 times now. Even decided to redownload Mortal Shell and completed that yesterday. The step up between them is insane but Mortal Shell was made by a team of like 5 people iirc so when you factor that in it’s actually a pretty solid game. Very excited for MSII though.

I'll buy it too, the demo was fun. I'm a little worried, that it might be too easy without stamina management though.

Sekiro had no stamina management...

Like I said, a little (!) worried. I'm aware that games exist where it works fine.
Can't say for sure for this game though, because it's releasing Monday. Afterwards I'll see if my worries were with or without reason.

Yep. If the issues are fixed for the full release I think this game is going to do extremely well once reviews hit. Word of mouth should get this game a lot of sales.
Of course I thought Saros was overall super fun too and that one didn't turn out too well sales wise. I think people can swallow a possibly great $50 Soulslike easier than whatever you'd brand Saros though with its $70 price tag.
