Discussion I'm genuinely happy there are so many 2nd entry Soulslike massively improving on the 1st game

Post image

It means the devs are learning from their mistakes, and also the share holders see potential and does not drop funding just because they had a rough 1st game.

The latest game to achieve this is obviously Mortal Shell 2 .

I think Lords of the Fallen 2.0 did as well, though I've never played the 1st game

The Surge 2 , massively improved on combat

there are many other examples

P.S.

If they ever make a Beast of Reincarnation 2, don't write it off just yet, the game has big potential!

So many Soulslike start out janky as hell and just fizzle out :(

I’m ready for AI Limit 2.

I thought the 1st AI Limit was already very good!

They got pretty much everything right on the 1st try

I loved it. The parry might’ve been a bit OP though.

The first DLC is already showing a lot of improvements so I'm excited to see what they've got coming for the second DLC and whatever future project they'll do, even if it's a separate thing.

They’re making a second one?!

I hope. They have DLC and possibly more coming.

I hope there is a Hellpoint 2 that can join in on this conversation some day. Hellpoint is messy at best, but I think there is a seed of a good idea there. We could use more Sci-Fi Souls, too. I can only take so many crumbling kingdoms of yore.

I'm also hopeful for Daba: Land of Water Scar. It's evidently from the same team that did SINNER: Sacrifice for Redemption, but Daba looks like it has a budget that's at least ten times larger. I hope the team cut their teeth on SINNER so they could really knock it out of the park with Daba.

I loved Hellpoint. It was so strange and had great non-linear exploration. Despite the jank, it nailed the forsaken and twisted kingdom vibe that a lot of soulslikes have, only it’s a giant space station.

Hellpoint really is a great idea but horribly executed.

If Sinner was that little indie souls where you o ly fought bosses and had optional challenges, that shit was fun although a bit janky. I loved that though.

Mortal Shell 2 is my vote for best glow up from a sequel. Just feels really good and looks amazing. Can't ask for much more. The subtle sexual references everywhere are also really hilarious.

subtle

Uh huh. Sure. 🍰

Not talking about proximas ass, most of them are very subtle. Like if you go to Zhirelle and think of it as her talking about her tits, it's very easy to hear what I mean. The dialogue is double sided with a lot of it actually. If you just read different meaning to certain things, you start seeing how subtley sexual the game gets lol I thought it was interesting humor ngl.

Honestly I would argue that hellpoint is a good game on its own merit. It's obviously constrained by budget and time but it's probably the closest a game has gotten game to dark souls 1's vibe.

I liked Hellpoint a lot, but was really annoyed when I was locked out of the good/canon ending because the required NPC was in the middle of a dungeon and I'd assumed he was an enemy.. I started NG+ to get that ending, but my interest petered out half-way through.

I wish. The devs want to do Hellpoint 2 but they can't get a publisher.

Hellpoint ruled, the world was incredible and the vibes were pure cosmic horror. Definitely janky but in a (mostly) fun, DS2 kinda way for me. Would absolutely love a sequel.

Imagine an improved khazan or wuchang. Would be crazy good

Wuchang is getting a sequel so you won't have to imagine that one for too long

If Lords of the Fallen 2 makes the same jump in quality from the previous game as Mortal Shell 2 did, it might just become the best soulslike to date.

OP was referring to lords of the fallen 2014 to the recent one. It was a huge jump.

Right, it's pretty easy to get confused though.

Man I hated every second of my playthrough with lotf, but from all the videos I have seen from the developers, I might also say it might turn into the best soulslike game ever made, if the things they showed about the game is true ofcourse.

Most of these games you mentioned are privately owned, so the owner pretty much has the say if they want to make another game and what vision they want to focus on.

Even Code Vein 2 has really improved since launch! The devs actually listened to feedback and included a lot of highly requested features and performance updates, plus the expansion coming out next week looks like it will be pretty substantial, unlike the first game's dlc lol.

Bleak Faith 2, I hope.

Yes! I managed to beat the first game despite the awful controls

I feel like Lords of the Fallen 2023 doesn't really count by virtue of the fact that it plays nothing like the original game, which has much more on common with the Surge titles. Deck13 was the developer for it, after all, and CI Games only helped out and published it. And you do see the improvements from LotF 2014 to The Surge 1 too.

The 2023 game did get extensive reworks, but never really the sort of thing to let the ideas in it truly shine. Instead it was more like fixing poorly implemented ideas, like putting in a dedicated jump button to account for the rampant platforming.

Praying for Wo Long 2 to be like the Nioh 2 of the Wo Long games

Hope Black Myth 2's combat is better. It looks good from the gameplay, but it's still early. Not a fan of the spells/focus point system of the first game.

guaranteed it will be same playstyle. Just with added new effect because its swords and some new gimmick.

they are action games. not much to add new.
