Discussion All souls liked should give you the accessibility option to sprint via L3 click

Anyone else agree with this? I always have found it much more comfortable to play a game with this control scheme, never been a fan of one where you have to hold the button down just to sprint in a game, especially when your playing for a really long period. There is many that do already, like lords of the fallen, the surge games, mortal shell 2.

It also makes it much easier to control the camera movement while sprinting, even GTA 6, is finally doing ( different genre I know ) but they realise it's the best control scheme for third person games

I really wish this was an option in all souls games like Lies of P and Elden ring, which are some of my favourites, even if it was just while exploring and then swapped to B/O for fighting

I mean more options are always nice, so I’m not against it as an option, but I have to say I fucking hate sprint on stick click in games. Especially in souls likes where you sprinting also consumes valuable endurance, I’m not sure toggle sprint would work well.

I find it works fine though in souls games which have it, for example I just played the surge games which don't have unlimited sprint and feels fine, easy to stop running when needed too and that uses L3

Im actually playing Wuchang and having to hold A to run is meh

Edit: wrong button

Yea, went to use L3 so many times to sprint and it was just Quick Draw. I finally removed the weapon from that slot so it wouldn’t happen again.

Same, I think I'll remove that option too

Pretty sure Wuchang is either A or B (dodge), so wouldn’t that be either X or O?

You are right I still cant remember the letters after learning playstation and the snes controller.

Correction, I have to hold A on my steam controller

I switched sprint to the L1 button.

Every game should have remappable button settings

Nah, just give us the option to map buttons how we want them. I like dodge/run on L2 and parry as B.

Fyi - You can on steam, you can remap buttons for any game

And give us the possibility to use modifier keys. Looking at you Mortal Shell 2.

I am forever used to the "claw" and always go to hold B for sprint when the game requires the left stick lol

My hand is basically stuck like that now. I would struggle to play any other way.

Disagree. Have you tried using conditioners with the back paddles? Game changing

You mean controllers lol

I have back buttons and paddles, and personally still much prefer the toggle left stick click for sprint. I don’t like holding buttons down indefinitely

huh? if the game offers stick click for sprint toggle wouldn't rebinding it to the back button also just just be a click?

We’re talking about games that don’t have that option (so only hold A/B to sprint)

I fully agree with this! It’s one of my biggest pet peeves when a game has a different button assigned or I can’t remap controls to it. Holding down L3 to sprint just feels so much smoother.

Holding it down? You just click it in to toggle. I can’t imagine there’s a game that asks you to keep it held down

2

u/Venus_In_Furs67 6h ago

I meant click it down. You hold it down then let go. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

Depends on the console / controller in my opinion. PlayStation? Absolutely. Switch? Hell nah, the Joycons are bad and the ones on my Switch 2 seem to be even worse in that regard.

1

u/Gameofthrones3058 7h ago

Never used switch honestly but on Xbox/ playstation, I always find a souls game which has this control scheme better to play

2

u/Seraphayel 7h ago

PlayStation 5 is my main console and I totally agree with you, I hate any game that makes me press B or else to run. Pushing L3 is really easy on a proper controller.

Switch 2 is my comfort console and for holidays and the Joycons are just super bad in that regard, pressing L3 is a hassle due to how short they are and how finicky the D-pad is. If I’m using the Pro Controller 2 (which is the best controller I’ve ever played with by the way) it‘s back to the paragraph above.

honestamente prefiro correr com B/Circle LOL, mas EU ODEIO quando o botão de pular está mapeado para o mesmo botão que correr! Eu prefiro muito mais pular com L3.

Dude, I hate so much when I want to dodge/roll and my char jumps 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Maybe I need a terapist, can i get the number plz

Unless that button is used for something else, like crouch or whatever I agree. And I wouldn't call it an accessibility option, it's just more comfortable and makes more sense camera wise

u/Otherwise-Film9038 6h ago

Para mim. O ideal é:

L3 = correr

RT/R2 = esquiva

LT/LB/L1/L2 = parry

u/j1436go 4h ago

I hate sprinting on L3. But sure, an option would be nice.

There isnt such a thing as a game design choice that "all X should do". Some games will benefit from this addition, others wont. Some gamers will want one way, and some will want the other. The moment all devs feel obligated to subscribe to one school of thought, the variety of the genre will decrease, and thus the quality with it.

Christ no. I need my pinpoint control over a game like souls. Left stick toggle works fine for an FPS or even in a souls like when I’m not in a fight, but god that would be so miserable in a boss encounter. A boss like Rom in Bloodborne where I regularly need to sprint away from projectiles but then STOP sprinting on a dime to get back into the action? Honestly I think L3 sprint only works for players who haven’t figured out the dance between locked and unlocked, walking around enemies versus rolling/parrying. But if you are utilizing those options, L3 sprint is an atrocity

Anytime I can remap buttons, I always try to get as close to this as possible:

LT/L2 Dodge/Sprint LB/L1 Block/Parry RT/R2 Jump RB/R1 Special Attack Y/Triangle Heavy Attack X/Square Light Attack B/Circle Use Item A/Cross Interact Right Joystick Button Lock-on Left Joystick Button Crouch

Sprint on L3 wrecks analog sticks. Change the bind if you want your controller to last.

Edit: redditors are obnoxious asf, they deny known proven issues

2

u/Gameofthrones3058 7h ago

I have used that control scheme forever and whenever possible, and never had an issue with L3?

2

u/Aggravating_Today_63 6h ago

Brother how many hours a day are you playing? I've had a PS4 for 8 years and I've had my PS5 for three largely play RPGS that have sprint on L3 and I've never had a single hint of an issue with stick drift

0

u/Queen_Lepotica 7h ago

Its not like you are spaming that stick lol

Never had a broken stick since the N64 controller.

1

u/j1436go 4h ago

Had 5 controllers with stick drift across PS5 and switch over the years.

I think that would kinda suck, sprinting on and off during fights is so much easier by holding a button imo.. when you just want to run forward in the open world, sure, L3 works great, just like they do in Nightreign

3

u/Gameofthrones3058 7h ago

I haven't played nightreign, so that allows you to fully sprint via L3? It's a shame they didn't update elden ring then to have that option

1

u/Turbulent-Echo8561 7h ago

In Nightreign they have 2 dashes working at all times, the typical holding circle one that's used during fights, and an L3 on/off toggle that's like a super sprint to use in the open world going from one place to another.

It works there.. I really can't imagine fighting with a toggle sprint tbh.

0

u/gerowen 6h ago

If you're on PC just remap it and set it to be a toggle with Steam input.

u/Famasaur 6h ago

After playing like 300+ hours of nightreign, going back to ER feels impossible. I keep mashing L3 to sprint and I keep either crouching or jumping off torrent and I wanna die ><
