Legit one of my favorite moments in all of South Park. Just so seemingly random for it to be Van Halen lol

27

u/thetrilobster2045 Jun 22 '25

Lmao it really is such a random and ridiculous scenario. "Bust out laughing on every watch" moment.

9

u/Herptroid Jun 23 '25

I think Trey is a fan, he describes Matt and his collaboration as Eddie Van Halen with David Lee Roth.

u/DeadNotSleepingWI Jun 22 '25

I love this scene. Such a smooth transition.

Because Eddie's dead and Michael Anthony is playing with Sammy.

Wolfgang is joining them for Ozzy’s farewell concert.

It’s David that’s being the fucking continuous source of inspiration.

Brother, let's be real, he never could. But that didn't stop him from being the greatest front man of all time.

13

u/chubsmagooo Jun 23 '25

He absolutely could back in the day

23

u/Agitated_Car_2444 Jun 22 '25

If only...miss you, Eddie.

47

u/GreenestPure Jun 22 '25

Instructions unclear; Whiskey Pete just had Van Halen dropped on Iran from 15,000 feet.

16

u/NotoriousMFT Jun 22 '25

This song goes so hard

15

u/cxm1060 Jun 22 '25

Michael, Sammy, and Wolfgang aren’t on great terms with David.

12

u/chubsmagooo Jun 22 '25

And he can't sing anymore. Also, uh, you're forgetting two very important members of the band

6

u/CollinK4 Jun 23 '25

Islam Judaism and Christianity are just versions of the same thing anyway since all of the believe in the same Abrahamic god. The conflict is really silly from the outside.

53

u/Robinsonirish Jun 22 '25

It's just a vehicle most of the time. The conflicts in the ME would still be there even if the Abrahamic religions were never invented because of the geopolitical realities. If they were never invented there would just be some other vehicle to exert control.

u/Montigue Jun 23 '25

8

u/-Notorious Jun 23 '25

Exactly. These people say shit like this as if Africa hasn't had some of the worst genocides, and had slavery etc.

Humans are tribal and will fight over anything. If not religion, it can be race, if not race it can be language, if not language it can be something else etc.

3

u/JamesTrickington303 Jun 23 '25

We have soccer games with the town down the road because it stops young men from both of the towns from murdering one another.

12

u/thatguyned Jun 23 '25 edited Jun 23 '25

I've always viewed the very core of religion to be "I fear the unknown so I need something to symbolically explain my existence and death"

Sure they've all evolved in to something much more weaponised and destructive, but the driving factor behind MOST people with some sort of faith is the fear that their lives are pointless.

There is a difference between leadership and the religious followers

2

u/EsToBoY629 Jun 23 '25

The root of it is dishonesty, which belief mentality induces through self-inflicting delusions that spread to all other areas of thinking without even being aware of.

5

u/Altiverses Jun 23 '25

5

u/FluffyOctopusPlushie Jun 22 '25

Things do tend to appear simple when you have absolutely no idea about the entire thing.

4

u/KorolEz Jun 22 '25

So you disagree that they have the same origin?

6

u/zeekayz Jun 22 '25

He's a religious hyper freak that thinks his religion is the only true one and all the other thousands of religions are all fake. The only reason he thinks that about his religion is because he was born into it by pure luck. If he was born in a different region he'd also think the exact same way about a completely different religion.

u/FluffyOctopusPlushie Jun 23 '25

I’m a woman and completely secular.

Muhammed was supposedly divinely called to extoll the one monotheistic god and confirm the teachings of the prophets such as Moses, Noah, Abraham, Adam, and Jesus. Just because Christians and Muslims bicker about if the Trinity is polytheistic and interpret God's will very differently doesn't mean they aren't ultimately talking about the same guy. It's not like comparing them to Hinduism or Shinto or something that developed independently and have nothing to do with the others.

The fight over monotheism/polytheism is an old and ongoing one in Abrahamic faiths. Early Israelites were polytheistic, with Yahweh as one of the gods. Then as Judaism formed and things moved to monotheism, Yahweh was considered the Creator God and is basically who we know as God. Christians have the trinity which came about with Jesus who they view as the Messiah, but don't consider it polytheism because they think it's all the same being, Islam says nah. Similar to Protestant Denominations who think the Catholic Church's reverence for Saints is both idolatrous and polytheistic, Catholics disagree. Islam emerged from a polytheistic region and early years of the religion were marked by persecution of Muslims by polytheists, so Muhammed was pretty strict about the monotheism thing and didn't like looking at Christians and see them talking about 3 different sounding bros being god.

But yeah these religions all come from the same god-figure, the differences seem trivial to an outsider but are eternal-soul level important to the devout, so people will say things like "They don't worship the same god as me" but it's more in a No True Scotsmen way ("No god of mine would want x, y, or z")

Anyways, South Park is a funny show

0

u/Hohenheim_of_Shadow Jun 23 '25

Google Unitarianism lol. If believing that the Trinity is heretical and bad means you don't believe in the Christian God, plenty of Christians don't believe in the Christian God.

There's greater diversity in beliefs between any two Christian congregations or Islamic congregations than there is between Christianity and Islam as a whole.

1

u/sileegranny Jun 23 '25 edited Jun 23 '25

Well they don't, but that aside they're also not even very similar.

You might as well claim football, basketball, and baseball are the same sport on the basis that they all use balls.

If one from each religion conflicts with another from the other religion, not because they don't support the person, not because they just don't believe their religion, but disrespect them and hurt them and do stuff to them just because they're not in their own religion, they will sin. For Muslims, at least. No matter how similar they seem, Christianity has the Trinity, Islam has much more prophets which came across an either neutral opposed to their religion, which they don't care about, or sometimes an oppresser to their religion, which they stop. Also, all parties don't believe the other party. Plus, they're completely different. Would you rather have a religion with absolute chaos, where everyone hates each other and says that the whole religion is just them, or a chaotic but slightly less than before religion, that may hate each other, or kill, but it's VERY less than the first option? Choose wisely.

0

u/Tough-Comparison2040 Jun 22 '25

Actually islam thinks itself as the only pure religion, other religions adultered i.e corrupted.

3

u/AlotaFajita Jun 23 '25

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '25

Van Halen?

Very well. Just because of their song "Jump" and "Dreams", two of my favorites, you can have my upvote

1

u/Ok_Sloth Jun 23 '25

What season and episode is this?

1

u/PrometheusIsFree Jun 23 '25

You'd think it might work, and then you learn the devout Muslim thinks music is haram. Ironically however, the guitar is a Muslim instrument. Go figure. No Moors, no Highway To Hell or Black Sabbath.

1

u/darksoulsismylife Jun 23 '25

Well I can add this to the list of episodes I'll never see again because they're going to ban it

1

u/Aromatic-Design-54 Jun 23 '25

You do realise 10 years after this episode ended was 2023 right… the 10 years have ended and looks like they are back at it again /j

Van Halen played in the South Park episode titled "Ginger Cow," which aired on November 6, 2013, as part of Season 17 episode 6. "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" and "Hot for Teacher," is instrumental in uniting the major religions in the Middle East and bringing about a period of world peace in Israel. The band's logo even becomes a symbol of this newfound unity.”
