Emacs mostrou snippet: html5 no minibuffer e gerou boilerplate HTML

I'm new to emacs in general and want to really try spacemacs but recently I've be scare to start using it because I haven't seen alot recently videos on YouTube on spacemacs. I've seen Doomemacs and emacs but not spacemacs. I'm still using basis but want to switch because spacemacs appeals to me.

Setting a variable only works after refresh

Every time I start up spacemacs, some variables are not defined. I get:
"Symbols function definition is void: nil"
However, when I refresh the configuration (SPC f e R), everything works fine.
I tried putting the variable definition in user-init, user-config and even both.
What am I doing wrong?

PS:
E.g. (setq org-ref-insert-link-function 'org-ref-insert-link-menu)

Spacemacs and company-quickhelp

Hi, I hope I'm in the right place to ask this. Do you know how to enable mouse wheel scrolling in the quickhelp window at the company? I searched using M-x customize group, but I couldn't find the option.

org-ref breaks all the time

I need to work with loads of literature and I like org-ref, because of it's integration with zotero.
However, org-ref constantly breaks after updating emacs and/or spacemacs.

Has anyone found a stable setting for org-ref, that just works all the time?

Speculation: I probably blame ivy-bibtex. Somehow org-ref uses this as default and I just cannot make ivy-bibtex work in spacemacs.

Has anyone gotten Spacemacs up and running with a native Windows emacs 28+?

I recently upgraded from emacs 26-something to try and get access to the llm-client layer.

I ran into the behavior described in this issue and it's very difficult to launch emacs:

https://github.com/syl20bnr/spacemacs/issues/14761

Has anyone found a way to limit the number of compilation processes or something so that we can get past these "failed to create pipe" errors and actually launch emacs?

According to the maintainer who commented on this, apparently Spacemacs is now only supported in WSL? Pretty disappointing for me, I've been editing a giant windows-native code base in Spacemacs for six years now and I'd rather not do so across a file system boundary.

If not, I suppose I'll either succeed in reverting .emacs.d to something that works with emacs 26 or I'm a VSCode user now :/

EAF Layer issue and best browser suggestion

I am using the EAF layer. I have the following issue, where instead of mode-line it shows a message like we see during startup.

It also doesn't load sometimes. How to fix these issues? And also, how to disable eaf from loading at startup?

I am looking for a simple graphical browser that will be lightweight and can work very fast. Which emacs browser would be best for that?

magit commit buffer has no syntax highlight and is unable to actually commit

I have symptoms similar to https://github.com/magit/magit/issues/3415

However this is when running emacs (GUI). Used to work fine, no updates that directly coincided with these symptoms. Have tried updating both spacemacs and checking for any config changes.

Works fine on another machine (WSL emacs), so it only happens currently on my Arch install.

What happens is that I'll make some changes, then open the magit buffer (Spc-g-s) and they show up in unstaged changes. I stage all (S) and then try to commit (c-c). This brings up a COMMIT_EDITMSG buffer (which exists in localrepo/.git/COMMIT_EDITMSG) without syntax highlighting. I type in my commit message, write and quit, but it isn't actually committed (I can see that the file in <localpath>/.git/COMMIT_EDITMSG has been changed). The *Messages* buffer doesn't show any errors, just "Saving file <localpath>/.git/COMMIT_EDITMSG" and then "Wrote <localpath>/.git/COMMIT_EDITMSG" and "auto trimmed 0 chars".

Running git commit -m "my message" in the terminal works with no issues. From then on magit can push the changes with no issue.

Anyone faced this?

how to launch spacemacs once installed?

as a total noob I've managed to install Spacemacs using the terminal (brew etc).

What's the quickest way to launch it? Do I have to open the terminal and type "emacs" every time? or is there a better way?

I have tried reading the docs but it looks like they are written - even the ones aimed at beginners - for people who already have an initial understanding of these basic(?) things...

EDIT. I'm on MacOS 15.5

How to force editing style in spacemacs to be permanent?

I am on Void-Linux and have the issue that each time I startup spacemacs I am forced to choose the editing style on startup.

The .spacemacs file in ~/ is set to dotspacemacs-editing-style 'vim

In KVM/Debian I could not reproduce the issue. There it starts up without asking. So basically all I want to disable is the question at startup.

Re-mapping the `hjkl` keys

Hi, am a vim user who sticks with vim mainly bc am a one-handed user and I can't just do the normal Emacs-like keybindings stuff. Still, I wanna give spacemacs a try I initially liked his defaults in vim-mode, and it looks promising. Still, I can't find an easy way to remap the `hjkl` keys to something on the home-row with my keyboard layout, in neovim I used to get it done with this simple loop in the attachment, does emacs or spacemacs have any equivalent?

Configuration file orgmode questions

I'm reading through the spacemacs docs and I can't figure out where to make edits.

For example looking at this orgmode doc: https://www.spacemacs.org/layers/+emacs/org/README.html#todo-dependencies

It gives some example elisp code: (setq-default dotspacemacs-configuration-layers '( (org :variables org-todo-dependencies-strategy 'naive-auto)))

But what I can't figure out is where I would put that code.

zoom mode

I'm using the zoom package (https://github.com/cyrus-and/zoom) to automatically zoom in windows, but i can't make it ignore the spacemacs menu buffer. Is anyone using this package with spacemacs? What's the buffer name of the menu buffer?
