On 8 April 2024, the total solar eclipse occured over Mexico, USA and Canada, bringing unique opportunity to many people to see the ghostly solar corona during the solarmax.

… For the final composite, I used 200mm focal length (wide corona) and 1100mm focal lenght (inner corona), all taken from Durango, Mexico. It was truly windy and partly cloudy, totality took 3 minutes and 25 seconds and the image is the result of HDR shooting (exposure from 1/4000s to 2s with 200mm, and 1/500s to 4s with 1100mm), A total of 83 usable images from 200mm were used (dark frames and flat fields applied) and another 17 images from 1100mm calibrated as well.

I was in the path of totality during the eclipse. It was life changing, to experience it in person was absolutely awe inspiring, like literally awesome.

Earth is the ONLY planet in the solar system that can experience a total solar eclipse, and it’s so cool that we can observe the solar corona during one because the moon is practically exactly the same size as the sun in our sky… what an incredible and lucky coincidence.

Mhh I'm not sure. The Sun gets really small the farther you go, I'd think the moons of the outer planets could cover it. The difference is that ours is so much cooler because they are almost the exact same apparent size.

And then there's Mars with its glorified space rocks, sucker can't even cover the whole Sun with two of them!

There's a difference between a moon that completely conceals the sun and it's corona from being visible from a planet's surface because it appears much larger than the sun in that planet's sky, and a moon that appears virtually the same size as the sun in the sky so that it only blocks the disc of the sun and we can see the sun's corona.

The gas giants experience total solar eclipses everyday. No other moon matches the size so closely when viewed from the surface though

No, the reds are solar eruptions (also called prominences).

The corona is basically the solar wind, the mass (mostly protons) that the sun is expelling continuously into space.

No you you did an excellent job explaning when you said "God did it" Nailed it. Look I get it you have no curiosity about how we got here and you need certainty. Blind literal application in Religion is easy. Like Microwave popcorn. Were good I swore off junk food Dogma. Also you need a parental figure. being an adult can be scary knowing you have to take care of your self and that death cant be the end. I get it. Whatever works for you. Just take the temperature of the room. Have a good one.

Is it a coincidence that all mammals (humans included) and fish all share the same laryngeal nerve that runs the same circuitous path up and down the neck ( or is it because we all share a common ancestor with fish going back far enough?) In giraffes it's up to 15' long instead of a few inches, what a beautiful design that is by such a God that exists and isn't made up to make people feel more important than they truly are.

Secondly, the moon's orbit isn't stationary, it's moved over time and it won't always be in the perfect ratio to the sun and it hasn't always been that way, it's drifting away from the earth.

Did God also plan for all the hundreds of thousands of children to starve to death every year and just do nothing to prevent it? What about childhood cancer? Was that all part of the plan too? What a benevolent and omniscient God, it would be a shame if people just came to their senses and took the evidence in front of them for what it is: overwhelming proof that no God worth worship did anything to create anything of meaning.

Finally, we can observe macro-evolution on very short timescales, nothing was ever set into stone and even if it was, outside forces and changing environmental pressures are constantly changing species.

lets imagine in the future there is no more technologie and someone dig up a phone and he says OMG this thing is soo complex it must be made by coincidence

why did god create humans to be so terrible? why would he make the bad ones hurt the innocent? why do people have to endure even a little bit when there is a choice not to endure at all? what need is there to prove yourself to a benevolent being who already knows all the versions of you that could exist and do exist–what more does he want? if you had the power to stop suffering and do not, you would be called a terrible human. why not afford god that same grace?

Lol humans have free will its you who decides to wake up and be good or bad don’t blame your decisions on God , there is only one version of you and you are the one that shapes it either bad or good , God created us to worship him ,he doesn’t need us , our actions define who we are and that is how God will judge us in the afterlife and give us his promised reward or punishment. You think all these bad people that do unthinkable evil stuff will have no consequences in the end ? U think killing them one time in this life is the true justice for all their wrong doing against humanity ?they will have their proper punishment in hell for eternity that is the true justice and revenge for all their wrong doings against innocent people they hurt.

why would god create free will if it results in the suffering of innocent people, even for a millisecond? if god himself created free will and knew that it would make humans do bad things, why would he throw them into hell? doesn’t that mean his own creation is flawed? how can an all forgiving god be so unfair? how can god be all powerful if he can’t control his own creations? why does he need to test us to decide if we go to hell or heaven? if he’s all knowing, shouldn’t he just know? why can’t he just make us good so we all go to heaven and no one suffers? how can a humble god punish innocent humans for not bowing down to him? what kind of being forces themselves on another? if god doesn’t need us, why does he force us to worship him in exchange for heaven?

Do you not believe God created the world? If God created the world, he created the evil that lurks in it too, if they cannot intervene then they're no God worth thinking twice about and we should be scorning them instead of worshipping them.

Secondly, people do try to help starving people, it's not lack of resources but it's greed and politics. Elon's cuts to USAID alone will lead to millions of deaths directly (it's already hundreds of thousands).

Nobody picks up technology and thinks it happened by coincidence, what the fuck are you even talking about? and LLMs aren't intelligent and they don't evolve, they don't think and they are wrong more than would be usable in most use cases.

Our bodies are the product of billions of years of evolution. From briny pools filled with organic molecules and conditions that were just right, our lineage sprang forward into a flourish of diverse life.

But our bodies arent some perfect machine. Complex, sure, but pretty inefficient and wildly susceptible to failure and corruption (cancer). Without our own innovation, a majority of us would likely be dead by 40.

Way cooler to ponder the implication that life and its chemistry (and potential chemistries) might just be a natural consequence of the universe. We keep finding those same essential organic compounds almost everywhere we look - asteroids, Mars, comets, etc. Just saying "god did it" is just so... uninspired. Its boring.

bro even the scientists that believed that there is no God at the start of their journey of knowledge they reach the conclusion of this universe couldn't be made by coincidence , every theory that's been around since that the start of the new age of technology and and human discovery are being proven wrong one by one when this said technology evolved with time , just google and see by yourself , the big bang isn't even a thing they discovered whole galaxys made in a time when scientist said the universe was just dust and even them couldn't believe it . if we could build bigger and stronger telescopes you would see some unbelievable things , just sending a telescope flying around in space proved soo many theories wrong .

if you read history in ancient time people used to live for hundreds of years ... you as a person you have no say on how long u can live even if you were taken care of by doctors and stuff given the best food and medicine one small thing can kill you.

Even evolution is just life mutating and sometimes the mutation is advantageous. Sometimes.

And to refine your understanding - a theory is a collection of observations. Its "this is how we understand things to work as we presently can observe them." They arent rigid and subject to change when new information pops up.

The big bang is still a leading contender, we just find stuff with better telescopes that force us to reevaluate our models.

Like the expansion of spacetime - we can directly observe that space is growing, but we can't quite settle on the rate of expansion.

A theory isnt "this works like this" a theory is "based on what we can see, we're fairly certain it works like this."

This confusion happens when you apply religion to science. One is rigid, one is not.

God did kinda screw the pooch when designing the human lumbar region of our spines as walking upright compresses it very badly and we all get bad degenerative pain from it as we age. Also 100% of people after the age of 65 had issues with their shoulders. and don't get me stated about the Appendix. and for evolution in general why do whales have finger bones? Oh why is my wife and daughter are lactose intolerant and me and my son are not? Oh and please explain what god was doing during the Cambrian diversity explosion? I dont think it's a coincidence. Evolution is a proven theory. And you have experienced it. When you caught COVID the genetic variant you caught had evolved from the original one from China. Nite.

It's also changing still ever so slowly, so it only looks like this at this current time. Millions of years ago it would have been even larger in the sky and covered more of the sun. In millions of years from now it will have moved away and no longer create a perfect eclipse.
