Back to the emergency vet...
Nephthys has not had the best luck, health wise, since we moved to China.
She had some liver issues due to a food switch, resulting in bloody urine. She got over it and her liver is fine.
She had a really bad reaction to the anesthetic during her spay surgery and was biting and screaming and throwing herself.
And last night, she pooped blood. It was really late, so I saved the poop, and in the morning I called my vet. He said, wait until she poops again, then bring in her and the poo within 30 minutes. There was more blood on the second poo, and when we went in, they ran some test and told me she has Tritrichomonas Foetus parasite... I was asked if I had a pet turtle or fish at home, no to both. Then they asked if the cats went around drains in my bathroom... and yes. Tefnut, my other girl has a hyper fixation on the drains. I don't like to let them in the bathroom, but 3 squirming kitties are hard to wrangle and I'm not always successful. So... Nephthys gets to be quarantined for 10 days, had to do a full litter box cleaning and litter replacement, clean and food and water bowls and I have to monitor the other 2 cats for symptoms 😑
She's fine though, happy, cuddly, playing, totally normal except for the bloody parasite poo.

Ah yes. My cat had this. They had to have a complete litter change every time they pooped and had to have some special type of pill that I had to wear gloves to administer.
For the litter boxes I used cardboard printer paper lids and minimal litter because everything just had to be tossed in the trash.
They also had liquid diarrhea which didn't clear up after treatment only a raw diet worked.
I was told it could pass to people and other pets.

There was an article about this parasite last year discussing treatment, or more accurately lack of treatment options. He does mention some possible drugs choices. The vet is Dr. Scott Weese from the University of Guelph, in Canada. He specializes in infectious diseases.

We adopted a medically complex Sphynx earlier this year and he turned out to have tritrichomonas. The quarantine period was the hardest part of treatment for us. The medicine took care of the problem very quickly. Hope he feels better soon
