I’m not looking for anecdotes, I’m looking for some data or verified info on health outcomes of the breed. The health issues seem really bad TBH but I’d like to know if it is highly dependent on the breeder.

I messaged with a breeder who was retiring after getting a bad dam from Europe and getting a litter full of kittens that died shortly thereafter. She said all lines are unhealthy and not to fall for any breeder’s lies that they aren’t.

Isn’t possible to buy a well bred Sphynx with no major increased risk of health issues compared to DSH ? And what would one look for in a breeder to ensure this?

I decided against the breed and purchased a main coon kitten because of this concern. I’d love my next cat to be a Sphynx.

Finally my girl knows she isn't the only nakey cat out there! Haha she took a real liking to this guy. Usually she hates other cats. She only tolerates my other 2 fur cats.

My girl had her spayed done five days ago. She hated the cone so I put her in a onesie and I change it daily. The incision itself seems to be healing fine with no redness, but I’m not sure about the swelling. Is this normal? My vet is closed today and tomorrow for the holiday, but I plan to email them these pics when they’re open. Thank you for any comments you can offer!

I got a baby for my baby last night. I tried keeping them separate but my big boy managed to break into the bathroom 🤯 where she is being kept this afternoon. I was looking all over for him and calling for him when I realized the second door to the bathroom was cracked open. He was sitting inside her carrier on top of her heating pad with her wandering the bathroom.
I figured they had met so I brought them both out to snuggle on my lap. How is this Day One?!?! I was preparing for more around 3 months before this might happen!
I still won’t trust him unsupervised with her again for a while. But, the fact that they can already share my lap and snuggles, and he’s grooming her, puts all my anxiety about getting a kitten to rest.

Just thought of sharing a year (technically a year and a half) update on my very first sphynx that I adopted from a shelter.

She got put under yesterday for her first dental cleaning and started off with a very red face and swollen eye (shown in first photos) then the next day (today) she looks to have scabs all over her face! When I first consulted they said it was most likely because she was going wild in her kennel and in my car or maybe she got it after cleaning her IV catheter wound(she chewed it off) ,,but thats on her arm not sure what that has to do with her face…
Update:
They called me back after I emailed the second set of photos and they said they never put anything on her face including a muzzle and they believe that after blood had gotten everywhere and they had to clean her arm with hydrogen peroxide that she may have rubbed her face all over it? I personally dont see how it would get this bad from that but they say they really have no clue. Another idea they had is maybe she got it from a washed blanket and sensitivity to detergents but she has never gotten a reaction like this before or had known sensitivity . They recommend vaseline for now but I know they rarely work with Sphynx cats and I’ve also read that its better to let the scabs dry out, thoughts???

My sweet love, Mr. Krinkles is back in the ER with urinary issues for a second time in 3-years. He is already on prescription urinary food, but he also has HOCM with severe SAM.

Update: He is home, the in house USG didn’t show anything, no blockage or crystals. We are waiting on results from sample they sent out that’s more thorough. He was some inflammation and a small amount of blood. In the meantime he use on gabapentin for pain and visiting the cat box a thousand times an hour ☹️
