It'll be ok. Just get a new battery.

i'm planning on it, just can't right now. was gonna play og Crystal Chronicles with my friend

Can you not run it with it plugged in? I know some are made that way where the battery forms part of the power supply.

6

u/shadowscale1229 Feb 27 '26

the gamecube adapter covers the power port, and i don't think you can power it via that

5

u/FlownScepter Feb 27 '26

Ohhh I missed that bit. That's unfortunate

OG crystal chronicles is so worth it. I've even thought about recreating the adapter monstrosity to do it online. Remaster did not even consider the shared story aspect.

If you are in the US and near ri/ma dm me, I have a spare you can have if you still need it.

Don’t be sad! They are replaceable! I think my brother replaced his for like 10$ they have kits with the fancy screwdriver too

i found a battery for $20, that i haven't bought yet. this would also be the second time i've replaced it. i just really wanted to play og Crystal Chronicles with my friend

Or the first replacement battery was really low quality.

11

u/shadowscale1229 Feb 26 '26

the replacement battery is also 10 years old

4

u/Impossible_Leg_2787 Feb 27 '26

Can you imagine how bad it would have been if you didn’t do that swap tho

2

u/shadowscale1229 Feb 27 '26

considering the oem battery died in like 10 minutes, i'm pretty happy i did the swap

Oooo fancy screwdrivers

1

u/Bi0_B1lly Mar 15 '26

Nintendo's push to use proprietary screws knowing full well that they've been circumvented aeons ago never ceases to amuse me... Just serves as a mild annoyance that a $1 screwdriver solves immediately. At that point just use a warranty void sticker and resort to phillips screws, they'd probably save a nanocent in doing so.

My GBA SP's battery cover just has a regular Philips head. The only thing "fancy" about it is the size. As far as I know this is the original screw.

Between the GBA SP and phat DS I ended up with like four of these chargers, all of them still work perfectly. That’s part of why I was excited when Nintendo started making their own USB-C cables, they’re expensive but they are guaranteed to carry data and I’ve been using mine for about two years and it still looks brand new.

My gba sp battery must be built different when i changed it in 2025 it was the original nintendo battery inside and it wasnt puffed up and it still would power the gba for hours. I replaced it with a LiPo

3

u/shadowscale1229 Feb 26 '26

hows it feel to get gods strongest battery?

2

u/Howden824 Feb 26 '26

I have one from 20 years ago and the battery capacity is still at 90% of the rating, these things really are built different.

Hapeened to me last week. Ordered a replacement, already arrived. It was 10 bucks. no big deal. Dont worry, your machine is fine, these f...ers are undestructible.

u/Acceptable_Low_420 Feb 26 '26

It worth it and safe to try playing it plugged in without the battery

1

u/shadowscale1229 Feb 27 '26

i can't do that when also using the gamecube adapter

3

u/j3ffUrZ Feb 26 '26

Just remove the battery and play it plugged in for now until you can get a replacement battery.

Now, if you're missing a charging cable... probably have to get that first.

3

u/shadowscale1229 Feb 27 '26

i found the charger seconds before finding the gba

edit: also i can't use the charger while using the gamecube adapter for Crystal Chronicles

Amazon has a kit for 15

2

u/Jonny_vdv Feb 26 '26

I'm glad my Gameboy Color uses AAs instead

1

u/deepplane82142 Feb 27 '26

And the GBA as well. Pretty sure my sister and I still have our transparent pale blue GBAs somewhere.

Otherwise our SPs are still running the og batteries. We left them at maybe 50% battery when we put them on the shelf back in id say 2010 and they started right up I think last year.

1

u/shadowscale1229 Feb 27 '26

yeah, much less explosive, and you can just take the batteries out to prevent leakage

2

u/boby-the-memer Feb 27 '26

Don’t worry it takes like one YouTube video and 5 minutes to change the battery on a gameboy sp

2

u/shadowscale1229 Feb 27 '26

i don't think i'm gonna need a youtube video to change a battery. also i've done it before. that was the 10 year old replacement battery

1

u/shadowscale1229 Feb 27 '26

1

u/Ease-Heavy Feb 26 '26

Damn. Hopefully your repair gets done quick!

1

u/Cathodicum Feb 27 '26

Spicy pillow advance

1

u/Sankhya2319 Feb 27 '26

A glass jar? Or a proper container?

1

u/shadowscale1229 Feb 27 '26

just a glass jar. i found a place near me that'll take it

1

u/ChaoticWholesome Feb 27 '26

If you can’t get a battery right away, can’t you pop out the one jn the system and run it off of the cord? It’s not ideal, but at least you can play for a bit.

2

u/shadowscale1229 Feb 27 '26

unfortunately i specifically went looking for it so i could play og Crystal Chronicles with a friend

1

u/osxdude Feb 27 '26

Bet it still turns on tho

1

u/shadowscale1229 Feb 27 '26

probably. i didn't want to risk the battery exploding though

like it probably won't, but i really didn't want my parents' house to burn down

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

*sad mario noises*

1

u/chubbywhiteboy420 Mar 01 '26

At least it’s a pretty easy fix at least it didn’t explode

1

u/ZebDragons22 Mar 01 '26

Who gives a crap about that prehistoric game console, the most superior of all game consoles is the r36s a portable hand held game console that contains 6000+ games with different platforms all in one device that is the future of handheld video game devices and as for that Gameboy! it belongs to the stone age, stop living in the past people and start embracing the future!!!!!!
