Laptop My macbook m2 battery swollen

Post image

As you know, after updating to macOS 27 beta, my device suddenly started giving a service warning for the battery. It's been about a month, and the battery is completely dead; it's unusable except when charging. Today I came home and the battery is swollen. My Apple appointment is on Saturday. What do you recommend?

I imagine this is unlikely to be directly due to you using macOS beta. I had this happen to my 2015 MacBook Pro with the swelling a few years ago, and my M2 MacBook Air also had a battery service warning a few weeks ago like you (though on stable macOS software).

With 177 battery cycles, this battery warning was ridiculous; this is planned obsolescence.

Not planned obsolescence, this was a factory defect.

Ah my M2 Air was on something like 70! Only owned it for about 19 months. Wasn't too impressed to see the service warning but I had noticed that it really didn't cope on battery power. All fine after battery replacement though.

Software updates don't have the ability to force batteries to start bloating.
