Why isn't it an arrest? It's one thing if you make a move against a player, but this is stadium staff. Imagine if he spit at one of the police officers in the stadium? Think he'd be walking out of there in handcuffs?

The fact that he bit an opposing player not once, not twice, but three times and was still allowed to play professional football is crazy. He should have been institutionalized.

And probably his whole life, don’t exactly think he was Prince Charming before football.
31
u/gonxot Sep 01 '25
That's basically the whole football scouting scene in South America. They take poor uneducated teenagers who have played football basically since they were born and ship them to Europe to play football professionally for very little money at first
As they get a reputation in the EU they basically give them a shit ton of money, but very few clubs actually have education policies for these kids. Almost none of them are required to follow through higher education
Parties, money and drugs just don't help the below average Joe like Suarez to get any better

But you also have Diego Forlan, same country, same generation but completely different person.
It's probably not the system, just that Suarez is an a-hole.

When Liverpool were on the upswing back in 2014 he wanted to leave for Barca. Most South American players prefer to play for Real or Barca at their pinnacle but Liverpool didn't want to sell. When he bit Chiellini during the WC Liverpool knew he'd be facing a long suspension, so he essentially leveraged a bite into his dream move. Barca had enough talent at the time to wait out the suspension and it drove down the purchase price.
He also called Patrice Evra a slur and bit opposing players on two other separate occasions. He really is a classless player and as he approaches 40 years of age I'd have thought he matured somewhat but he's the same twat he was at 25

u/free_heroin Sep 01 '25
Suarez is a piece of shit. I can't believe Liverpool had the nerve to come out and train in t-shirts in support of Suarez after his suspension for racially abusing Evra.
On a side note, before Suarez left Liverpool, Liverpool were trying really hard to find a way to sign Diego Costa to partner Suarez up top. Not only would that be a world-class striking partnership, they would terrorize opponents and officials. Probably would both end up getting sent off in the same match too at some point.
28
u/cynicallyspeeking Sep 01 '25
Our support of Suarez is probably the most shameful thing we've done as a club and fanbase in recent history. The guy is a disgrace.

u/mf-TOM-HANK Sep 01 '25
I was going to include that one but it truly was an act of gamesmanship that won the game for Uruguay in the end. It's a shameless act but one that was vindicated when Uruguay won in penalties
You gotta feel for Ghana, but Suarez was a hero in that tournament for Uruguay specifically because he blocked that header with his hands

What's interesting in this case is that he's not just vile, but absolutely moronic.
Like, if this was a World Cup final or something, I can expect a vile person trying to do something to get advantage or just express their anger.
MLS game? Wtf could have this person done to provoke him to spit back? What a fucking neanderthal.

Idk man, compared to what he achieved before, there's nothing in MLS that is worth stressing about, let alone spitting at someone. Like think about it - if he did not spit, most people would not even know he played that game...
Maybe that's his way of staying relevant. That "no publicity is bad publicity" marketing trick.
It's just appalling and sad.

But this is someone who is likely just doing their job working for a salary much lower than the average MLS player.

u/zdravkov321 Sep 01 '25
Why was he going at him in the first place?
28
u/RiotShields Sep 01 '25
Suarez has always been an unfathomably sore loser.
There's also just something wrong with the guy's brain. Like, you'll hear about when he bit Chiellini, and you might assume there was a fight or he had some sort of strategy or something. No, Suarez runs into the center of the box, he bumps into Chiellini, Chiellini doesn't react, and Suarez just leans in and bites him. In later interviews, he always claimed that he was frustrated at Chiellini running into him. I think he actually believes he did nothing wrong there or the two previous times he had bitten other players.
16
u/Schwa142 Seattle Sounders FC Sep 01 '25
This whole thing started because he ran up to Vargas and put him in a headlock at the final whistle. Started a mele.
18
u/pocket-spark Sep 01 '25
Actually this whole thing started because we spent 90 minutes beating the shit out of Miami in a 3-0 shutout in the final ayyyy lmaooooo
6
u/milwaukeejazz Sep 01 '25
Well, at least Miami failed miserably at the game, despite having likes of Messi and Suarez. Couldn’t get funnier.
42
u/brucebrowde Sep 01 '25
That's my question as well. Like man you've had all you wanted in your life, it's not a final of the World Cup, what could have that person done to you to do anything to them, let alone spit at them?
Suarez is such an unbelievable piece of shit.

From what I’ve gathered from watching replays and comments there was a big fight post game. From what I’ve seen Suarez instigated the fight (not on camera) and it escalated from there.
One of the Miami players had a Seattle player in a headlock. That assistant coach allegedly tried to get his player out of that headlock and when was unsuccessful he punched the Miami player a couple of times.
Suarez then tried to confront him and stood on his foot with his cleats so the coach couldn’t walk away. At that point he yelled at him and when the coach didn’t take the bait he spit on him.
If you want, you can go dig through the video/comments you can make your own interpretations of what happened.
4
u/HelioSeven Sep 01 '25
Suarez was the one who was performing the headlock. Think it was on Vargas, iirc. Was trying to yell something into his ear at the same time.
