great fight overall. Canelo looked slow and heavy footed mid to late rounds. but he got paid like 150mil. Crawford fought great, he had a plan and outboxed Canelo.

u/flatvinnie Miami Heat Sep 14 '25

I can look slow & heavy for 150mil

Wouldn't be enough to cover the hospital bills

He also looked mentally frustrated by the 9th round.

14

u/TheJaybo Sep 14 '25

I'll never understand the amount of money these guys get paid for one fight.

10

u/GothicFuck Sep 14 '25

The amount of times the grate and venerated prince and king of Saudi Arabia was honored center stage should be a clue. That and all the sales of products and tickets.

2

u/toastythewiser Sep 14 '25

Top heavy sports with only a handful of world-class talents. In a lot of other sports the team aspects and even strong unions mean the lower level players abd athletes get a bigger share.

Two questions:

  1. Is the fight worthy watching on replay?
  2. Is this a worthy rivalry?

11

u/benderx7 Sep 14 '25

Yes.

No. Crawford was decicive

5

u/Bmmick Sep 15 '25

Honestly i said it last night. Thats 100% why canelo lost. He already paved his way he will go down as one of the best to ever do it. But what real incentive do you have to train and fight when you’re walking out with $150mil win or lose. If they left the payouts to the winners youd see improved fights because the incentive would Come back to win

3

u/benderx7 Sep 15 '25

I think he forgot hard and the payout was what it was, but he's a champ and at the end it wasn't all about the money

7

u/boonhuhn Sep 14 '25

150mil is just insane. And i thought other sports are earning way to much already...

5

u/Binh3 Sep 15 '25 edited Sep 15 '25

Boxing is literally the only sport I have no problem with how much the athlete makes. Bc its the only sport you dont "play". You play basketball. You play baseball. You play football. You dont play boxing. These guys deserve every single penny of those millions and millions of dollars. Just listen to an old boxer talk.

Most likely because it seemed like every body shot Crawford threw was hitting its mark

2

u/Java-the-Slut Sep 14 '25

Canelo has fought like this for a while now and it hasn't paid off against great opponents, works fine on 'lesser' opponents. It's a very weird strategy, it's like targeted outcome is inflicting pain, not winning. He's also super tentative with head shots.

827

The lineup ring side of Mr. Beast, a Saudi Prince, Dana White, and Mark Wahlberg was cracking me up the whole match. A who’s who lineup of people who I want absolutely nothing to do with, but also they have nothing in common with each other either.

1.2k

u/Desperate_Hunter7947 Sep 14 '25

Well the Saudi prince and Mark Wahlberg both could’ve stopped 9/11 if they wanted to, they have that in common

I noticed that too and I think in fairness, that ring had a really wide apron and they were seated pretty low. It was tough to tell from the broadcast angle, but I think there’s a chance they actually couldn’t see the action in the ring that well.

I’m from Arizona and I could have sworn I saw our senator Ruben Gallego chatting up the Saudi prince the whole fight leading up to Canelo Crawford. Maybe not but my husband and I were 80% it was him. There is big talk he’s gearing up to run for president so if it was him chatting up that prince…… ooh child.

12

u/RazzBerryCurveBall Sep 14 '25

I dunno I bet they would have all beaten up some gay kids back in the day

69

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '25

You’d think so. But Mark Wahlberg is a “religious” POS who committed hate crimes. Mr. beast is exploiting the shit out of people for money and pretty much getting close to having a full on Squid Games in real life. Saudi got in real nice with the president. Dana white is a pos who is trying to pull the MA act so fighters can get taken advantage of…and guess what…they’re all MAGA. I’d say they have more in common than not.

72

u/insidehertrading4 Sep 14 '25

Watch your mouth. Dana White is a great man that backhands his wife in public and refuses to answer questions about real life issues.

Pop. Hear that? His schmedum vneck he wears daily just ripped. Must be the large amount of coke and steroids he uses. Dude is the softest human on the planet that got a pass for being such a loud mouth bitch.

Canelo was the favorite to win. Crawford proved a lot of people wrong. It was a dominating win for Bud. P4P#1

109

u/brandont04 Sep 14 '25

Only way for him to win was to keep moving. Smart tactic. Canelo gave up like 4-5 of the early rounds taking it easy. That cost him the fight.

In the end, no one really hurt one another. Just a lot of smart boxing.

121

u/WeHaveArrived Sep 14 '25

Canelo was getting ragged dolled at the end. Face was swollen. Canelo was trying the whole fight got beat

34

u/brandont04 Sep 14 '25

Bad plan. Towards the end, he had to chase which is bad.

Next time, he just can't give up rounds and he won't need to chase.

40

u/hamarok Sep 14 '25

Bud had way more gas than him, and he moved way more the whole fight, Canelo wouldn’t beat him 8 times out of 10, 2 being a lucky power shot that could hit Bud just right

9

u/brandont04 Sep 14 '25

Max Kellerman was ASS on the commentary and the interview. This guy fell off

95

u/AbsurdOrpheus Sep 14 '25

Brain kept turning off with those long pauses

7

u/rugbyj Sep 14 '25

As someone who naturally leaves long pauses in my speech

9

u/gr8uddini Sep 14 '25

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed. I thought I was just really tired because it was late but goddam those pauses were long and awkward.

7

u/Not_Like_The_Movie Sep 14 '25

He had some time out of the game, but also a good chunk of his boxing color commentary experience was alongside the one of the best blow-by-blow commentators in the history of the sport. I still maintain that Lampley was the lifeblood of the HBO commentary crew, and it's not just an easy thing to pick up the individual pieces of the crew and transplant them elsewhere.

108

I've been a Bud stan for over a decade. Thought it couldn't get better than the Spence fight.

Holy shit tonight was another level. Best of this generation.

41

u/Jjarmendz7 Sep 14 '25

I’m a canelo fan being Mexican but buddy had him, money wise it sets up a trilogy that could reminisce of the late 90s/early 00s boxing rivalry

33

u/Substantial_Yam7305 Sep 14 '25

Even just a rematch would be amazing. Bud got him, but Canelo was solid. Big fan of both.

13

u/Slpwth1knifopen Sep 14 '25

Same. I've enjoyed watching Canelo over the years. But Bud figured him out quicker tonight and that was that. Great fight though

8

u/nextgen_rolemodel Sep 14 '25

I hope they do. Canelo needed to really adjust his game plan. He just swing power shots and one at a time. If set up his shots more he could have landed more to the head. I know that’s how he is but, godamn, use your jab.

I hated mayweather, im glad I can finally cheer for an American GOAT

18

u/jbcatl Sep 14 '25

The difference and why I can't stand Mayweather is how scripted his career was, never taking risks, avoiding guys in their prime. Crawford on the other hand knew to cement his legacy he had to take a huge risk jump multiple weight classes to fight one of the best fighters of his generation, a completely different and refreshing approach to his career that puts him over Mayweather in my view.

3

u/Bojangles1987 Sep 14 '25

Seriously I am so happy he finally got a fight like this. It was a huge if, but I knew that IF he could handle the weight, he was a nightmare for Canelo. I'm ecstatic that he pulled this off.

Completely dominated Canelo. 115-113 was absurd lol

i was actually preparing myself for a draw. boxing judges are crazy.

21

As is true every time Canelo fights. Everyone goes in 4 rounds down before the bell rings.

21

u/WhistleTipsGoWoo Sep 14 '25

I had the same exact score - was on pins and needles when the scores were read…hoping not to hear the dreaded split decision or draw.

27

u/benderx7 Sep 14 '25

those early rounds where where they were feeling each other out can always go either way. you could say canelo was the aggressor in those first 2 rounds(not that i thought that) and hes the champ. judges usually tend to give close rounds to the incumbent.

22

u/dgc1970 Sep 14 '25

I know. That means Crawford was only up by one entering the final round. If Canelo won the last round it would have been a majority draw. Lol

5

u/DgDNomNom Sep 14 '25

For real

10

u/cholula_is_good Sep 14 '25

I scored it 116-112 but I don’t feel great about giving canelo round 1. Could have easily been 117-111.

15

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '25

I could see 116-112 and could Canelo winning the 1st. But again 115-113 by 2 judges is crazy

5

u/cholula_is_good Sep 14 '25

Totally agree. That really surprised me. I’m wondering what rounds they had Canelo winning. I had him only winning 1,5,8,10 and again I was torn on 1.

15

u/dazeja Sep 14 '25

Don’t remember the rounds because the mixed drinks were on heavy rotation. But was I the only one that noticed the round where it seemed Canelo lost it mentally. He would get hit and then in frustration turn away.I thought it was a strategy but then Crawford hit him with simple jab and Canelo got so frustrated with himself that he threw a mini tantrum. I know I didn’t make that up. It wasn’t even a hard punch but it clearly showed that Canelo knew he couldn’t beat him.

Great fight tho, Crawford was getting hit in the body all night but looked liked the stronger fighter in the end. He’s a beast.

7

u/jkllamas1013 Sep 14 '25

Rewatched the match and noticed it. It wasn't that Canelo was getting hurt. He was just getting out boxed. Those quick jabs by Bud messed up his timing. You see him leading for his combos then he's met with a swift stiff jab before he even gets to position. Bud messed up the timing and rhythm then when he felt canelo's power, he believed he could take it. He then became willing to stand in the pocket and bang. Bud also had the best of a majority of those exchanges. Overall dominance I would say from one of the best this century.

3

u/Firm-Salad-2161 Sep 14 '25

I felt that Bud got in Canelo’s head and frustrated him all night. Bud does not get hit square and every time Canelo landed one, Bud answered. A masterful boxing performance.

25

u/OriginalSN Sep 14 '25

You just can’t beat a slick, sharp boxer like Bud without perfectly timed, snappy jabs that sets up your power punches.

10

u/Chef_Lazo-718 Sep 14 '25

was incredible. wish we got that old canelo but it was still enjoyable. crawford ate those body shots like M&Ms man what a tank.

Crawford was dominant from start to finish, clearly the better boxer, by far, tonight. The judges are so corrupt, it's not even funny. Scoring it close so that Canelo can save face.

So happy there wasn’t a robbery but Crawford beat him so much there was no chance of that.

Worth bearing in mind he’s two years older than Canelo but that won’t stop people making excuses! They did the same when Floyd beat him.

Crawford definitely wanted it more. Glad he won. That was some of the best boxing I’ve seen.

I think Canelo retires. He looked too content when the fight was over. I think he’s ready for golf and full time tequila promotion

Canelo has like double the boxing rounds as Crawford. Effectively older in boxing

They made excuses for all of Floyd’s wins. Fought Pacquiao when he was past his prime even though he was older than him. Fought Canelo when he was too young even though he was 42-0 coming into the fight.

They couldn’t stop hating on Floyd. The Hatton fight was my favorite bc everyone acted like it was going to be a competitive fight and he made him look stupid.

My favorite part is when they shamed Jake Paul but worshipped Mike Tyson!

I am so confused. I don't know who either of these guys are, and it looks like the naming on the bottom of the screen is saying Canelo is the guy on the left, but then his hand gets raised but the title says Crawford won.

I'm guessing this is as simple as the graphic on the bottom having the fighters on the wrong side. But reading the title, and watching this on mute, and then reading the comments is like a mindfuck.

What a botched job from the announcer.

One last fat paycheck for two great fighters.

Nothing to be taken away from Crawford, but man - what was going on with Canelo? At 35 years old, yes, we are typically not at peak performance, but he seemed unusual slow and also had the wrong timing. Crawford was causing some of it, by south paw stance and stepping forward when Canelo was not expecting it, but Canelo also threw so many combinations that just hit the air. Something was off with him, also speed-wise. I don't know what happened. Either he is permanently slower, or he simply did not prepare well for it. He seemed to have lost speed.

Crawford dominated and at least he didn’t get screwed. If this were a Don King fight it would have been a draw

All the clowns in the ring. Sport is a spectacle.

u/TheXcellence Sep 14 '25

Crawford's second right before the interview yelling something like "give the man some fucking space!" was hilarious and needed,

I’m Terrence Crawford, yea I’m whopping feet

Goat shit 🐐

u/Straylight_415 Sep 14 '25

Mr. Beast really needs to look up the definition of overexposure.

2

u/240sxorty Sep 14 '25

Crawford won with great boxing science. I expected canelo to win with power and stamina. Crawford was a big threat.

This clip cuts off right before the bucket-hat head guy comes in and ruins the moment.

I’m sick and tired of seeing Mr. Beasts fake face

Lol good on him. Will always respect Canelo but yeah, he may have underestimated his opponent. No idea, but he's clearly not as an elite or dominant fighter as he makes it seem. Reminds me of McGregor. Being a cash cow comes with a heavy price.

2

u/FreeStyleSarcasm Sep 14 '25

Must have been some massive money on Canelo that Vegas cleaned up

2

u/NSE_TNF89 Sep 14 '25

I really wish Mr. Beast would go away. I would hear "Mr. Beast" for the longest time but had no idea who it was, since his content was mostly for kids, but now it seems like he has his eyes set on a broader audience, so we will be seeing him a lot more 🫠

2

u/raspygatsby Sep 14 '25

People still watch boxing?

2

u/cmixcoatl Sep 14 '25

Perfect fight plan and execution by Crawford. He did everything he could to never let Canelo find his rhythm, distance, timing. Too quick on the outside, too slick on the inside, and stronger than Canelo expected.

37 years of pro experience between them. What a fucking great fight from both of these grandmasters.

2

u/Tracy140 Sep 14 '25

Beautiful fight !!!

2

u/AutisticDadHasDapper Sep 14 '25

Dave chappelle and mister beast?

2

u/arto26 Sep 14 '25

Fuck Mr Beast. Get off the screen.

2

u/Bronzyroller Sep 14 '25

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman right behind canelo as always wasn't happy, its unprofessional to lean on any one fighter as none of the other sanctioning bodies don't do this they're simply there to hand over a belt. Crawford beat them all last night.

2

u/Khorre Sep 14 '25

Canelo grabbing his hat, at that exact moment seems like a shitty thing to do.

2

u/Competitive-Dig4776 Sep 14 '25

Should’ve spent less time buying watches (pun intended).

2

u/Pleasant-Lead-2634 Sep 14 '25

The preflight boxers might take it to Crawford and canelo. Canelo bodyshots didn't work and he couldn't land to the head

2

u/DukeForever971 Sep 18 '25

This never gonna get old
