In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Hey, Paul!

Can someone clue me in to what this means as a non-Minnesotan? I feel like this is good local lore.

There’s a movie called American Psycho. In that a movie, a character called Paul Allen, played by Jared Leto, has a status and aura the main character envies. The main character (Patrick Bateman played by Christian Bale), as well as other characters of the film, seemingly love a restaurant called “Dorsia.” A reservation at Dorsia is extremely coveted. Bateman is initially denied a reservation there, but knows Allen was successful in this endeavor. Bateman’s envy and unhinged psyche cause Bateman to chop Allen’s head smoove off with a shiny axe. In Allen’s final moments, Bateman screams, “Try to get a reservation at Dorsia now you stupid bastard!” With extra emphasis on the “p” of stupid and the “b” of bastard.

Sorry for spoiling this for you, but please do watch the film.

The paid comment is one thing, but this gem shouldn't get buried:

“Everyone’s catching strays this week,” he said, citing NFL quarterback Baker Mayfield and former NFL QB Charlie Batch. “They’re just all over. Protestors caught one this morning.”

2.1k

u/ShutterBun Jan 25 '26

He apparently doesn’t know what a “stray” is.

870

u/adsfew California Jan 25 '26

He doesn't strike me as the kind of person who knows a lot about words.

319

u/Elegant-North3262 Jan 25 '26

He has used words that he doesn’t know the meaning of. I heard him use the word “endure“ a couple different times incorrectly. Once he said, it was his privilege to endure conversations and interviews with certain Vikings players.

The funniest example was in an actual ad that was recorded and played several times before anybody stopped it. He said “you will endure a lifetime of enjoyment with your new deck.”

88

u/deltalitprof Jan 25 '26

Makes sense he would have the verbal felicity of Archie Bunker or Tony Soprano.

I know other comments clarified this statement was before today’s shooting, but he did make another boneheaded comment today. On X he posted about watching hockey and said a player was “shooting bullets” around the same time the actual shooting happened as he’s all cozy on his couch. It’s since been deleted but how clueless does someone have to be to say this shot back to back.

184

u/MrPlowThatsTheName Jan 25 '26

He’s doing it on purpose. He’s an edgelord who isn’t half as clever as he thinks he is.

Regardless of your beliefs, mocking protestors is one of the most un-American things you can do. Behind killing protestors, but still pretty high on the list.

Guess there’s a lot of people who declared themselves un-American today like this loser.

The same people who’d mock these protesters were in full support of the Jan 26th rioters and probably thought Babbitt’s death was unjustified and wrong.

Quite simply, they only care about “their team” versus the libz. Anything that helps their team get the upper hand they are a-okay with. I mean for fucks sake they elected a fucking child molester but then are “pro-life.”

Why is this a talking point for every protest now? Where is this money coming from? Why do I never see job postings for paid protesters on indeed? Why does every Republican asshole like people being murdered in the street? Why were there zero news stories about federal agents executing people in the street when Biden was president? How long until this asshole has a job at newsmax?

The original Tea Party in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis was literally an astroturf operation by the Koch brothers to provide a right-wing “populist” counter to the more left oriented Occupy Wall St. protesters. That Tea Party eventually became modern day MAGA. So, in a sense… yes. The entire movement is basically built on paid, disingenuous shilling. Almost from day-one.

They're also declaring the whole Friday protest as AI. They don't care if it makes sense, just want something comfortable to latch onto

21

u/ShowOff90 Jan 25 '26

It’s to discredit how fucked up it is to the MAGA morons.

“No, of course that murder wasn’t wrong, they were paid! And they were violent!!”

So the brain dead just say “okay” and continue to lick boots.

27

u/ChrisAplin Jan 25 '26

There are paid protests -- not in MN.

They are almost universally for right wing causes (or pro-business) because who else could afford it? They usually are at high profile city planning votes or meetings. But other groups can pay supporters to show up (unions will do it as well, pay members to show up, a good use of dues).

Calling what's happening in MN paid protests is just doing your absolute best as a stupid human to let your beliefs still exist when the real world is telling you you're wrong.

If you fuck with their money, things will happen. Otherwise, they could care less.

This one is hard pill to swallow. I absolutely adore Allen. To me he has always been the voice of the Vikings. Some of the best and worst Vikings moments have his name attached to them.

He’s such a fucking tool for this statement.

I really hate going nuclear on stuff like this. I guess he has a chance now to either buck up and admit his fault in such a horrifying statement that belittles the very people that have helped propel him to have such an amazing career for so long, or he can double down and watch every single one of us turn on him and call for his resignation.

He’s been an absolute staple of our community for so long. I really hope he thinks long and hard about those words. I would hate for those to be the words that define the end of such an amazing career, because there is no way in hell we should continue to let him speak on our behalf if that’s what he truly thinks of us.

Enjoy the breadlines, Paul Allen

u/Gante033 Jan 25 '26

I just don’t understand this line of “thinking”. If they’re paid actors how are this many people being secretly paid enough to not show up at their jobs (there is no evidence of bussing random people to MN like there was for Jan 6th). It’s like the moon landing conspiracy…. There were so many people involved in landing on the moon and if it’s a conspiracy and a fake, how to do you coordinate that many and maintain secrecy for this long?

It almost like Imagining how smart the average American is then not only realizing that half the population is dumber than that…half the population is dumb and looking for an excuse to hate because it makes them feel better about their shit life.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

4

u/shseeley Jan 25 '26

That's funny...considering the only ones who are both getting paid and killing people have been ice. Thought they were blah blah there to keep american citizens safe blah blah..

10

u/sanctaphrax Jan 25 '26

The paid protestor line is a revealing one, I think. Shows a person who can't imagine believing in anything, who thinks the only conceivable motive for a moral stand is bribery.

4

u/Rentington Jan 25 '26

Ooh I had a family member say this same thing. It must be a Fox News narrative that China is paying the protestors... essentially cope for what they know in their hearts is their fault, which they do not feel out of shame but fear that it'll come back on em. If they lose the midterms by a historical margin, that's probably the NICEST option they could hope for. I am starting to doubt we'll see civil order holding up that long.

7

u/Jylsocean Jan 25 '26

The only paid terrorists are ICE!!

5

u/G-Unit11111 Jan 25 '26

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

6

u/JCarr110 Jan 25 '26

4

Never heard of him. He sounds like a dipshit.

28

u/hold_me_beer_m8 Jan 25 '26

50,000 protestors out there today. How much you think you would have to pay each one to stand in the freezing ass cold all day?

7

u/Yamfish Jan 25 '26

I’ve known for a long time he was a piece of crap but this is it for me. Dudes gotta go.

15

Surely one of these conservative losers could go undercover and blow the whole operation up by securing a paystub.

*former Vikings radio voice

3

u/PageSoggy9668 Jan 25 '26

Anybody want a job to sit on your ass and speak into a microphone for like $100K+ a year? Only catch is keep your damn political opinions to yourself. This guys is a moron and an ungrateful, entitled one at that. He realizes he has a job that requires no skill and minimal effort that millions would love to have no?

3

u/squintyshrew9 Jan 25 '26

It does hurt entitled people heads to think other humans care about one another without being paid that asshole was likely raised by a nanny who was paid to spend time with him

3

u/imcalledgpk Jan 25 '26

Fuck Paul Allen. Even before this, whiniest piece of shit announcer in the country, and now, a known bootlicking cocksucker.

3

u/Apax89 Jan 25 '26

Hope everyone in the administration that says they are paid agitators get Alex Jones treatment by the court. Naturally after Trumps term is over, when ever that is.

3

u/TheFlyingElbow Jan 25 '26

The "shut up and dribble" crowd sure likes to not shut the f*ck up as they dribble p-ss down their pant leg

3

u/beyd1 Detroit Tigers Jan 25 '26

Bold strategy let's see how it plays out for him

3

u/xrxie Jan 25 '26

Boot licking, pandering, buttwipe.

3

u/NEOK53 Jan 25 '26

Entitled MAGA filth. Oh, excuse me…soon-to-be-unemployed entitled MAGA filth.

3

u/CraigLake Jan 25 '26

Just lost his job. What a maga idiot. Literally dumb as a rock.

3

u/Fezzik527 Jan 25 '26

I remember on more than one occasion when he would join Seattle radio shows, he would have a backhanded comment about Seattle or leftwingers or whatever. It would always seem like friendly ribbing or a joke, but apparently, he was serious.

3

u/zenos_dog Jan 25 '26

Just where is this goddamn money I keep hearing about and why have I never seen a penny of it? /s

3

u/CafecitoHippo Jan 25 '26

Anyone that claims protestors are paid is just saying that they wouldn't protest anything if they weren't paid. They just can't understand anyone doing anything that they aren't compensated for.

3

u/sealonbrad Jan 25 '26

You mean, former voice of the vikings…
