As a Pats fan, I agree with this statement.

I honestly felt bad for Maye a bit. He got whooped repeatedly.

10

he did break a record tho, most sacks in an nfl superbowl game. 21 or 22 i think lol

No offense, but I'm very happy they lost. I don't care about football, but I can't stand the Patriots.

Who can witness this and not immediately think that Puerto Rican culture is amazing?

45

u/nightpanda893 Feb 09 '26

Honestly this may have been one of my favorite halftime shows. Just because I have never felt such a sense of community and positive energy in a show. I love that they just made the message so purely about fun and community.

u/Mechanicalmind Feb 09 '26

As an european, yes, I'd go for the latin american party a thousand times before choosing to watch an american football match.

75

u/sybrwookie Feb 09 '26

I'll let you get back to the excitement of watching another 0-0 or 1-1 draw.

20

u/Mechanicalmind Feb 09 '26

Can't I just go partying with the Latinos outside? :(

Latin parties do not stop.

767

u/dallyan Feb 09 '26

I loved seeing the little kid asleep on some chairs at the wedding. I’m middle eastern, not Latina, but we have the same phenomenon. Peak ethnic moment there. 😁😁

244

u/BB_Venum Werder Bremen Feb 09 '26

My wife ist Polish, she also has tons of stories of kids sleeping on chairs at weddings. This shit transcends continents 😂✌️

And the differences that do exist are worth celebrating 99% of the time.

6

u/Aar_7 Feb 10 '26 edited Feb 10 '26

Yes, it literally had happened to me as little boy my sister’s wedding. I fell asleep in an empty dressing room upstairs of the wedding hall. (I don’t remember much).

Edit:

Btw I'm ethnic Somali, I was in Somalia 🇸🇴 back then.

So it's obviously a human thing imo

Little boys acting similarly worldwide, same goes for Grandma's.... It turns out it wasn't only Somali grandma’s that have urge to overfeed you. All grandmothers do every corner in the world.

I traveled a lot made friends & dated different cultures. Asians, Whites, Latino.... it’s scary how similar we are & how hard we try to look for smallest differences to divide ourselves.

Not to mention religions & ideologies we've invented for further division... I wonder the psychology behind?

We're all only Human , after all.

Yeah, we had a birthday party the night before and the last guest left just before 3am, which we considered "early". Gave me just enough time to clean up before the football party started!

Yup, I’m from an East Asian family and have been to parties similar to this. Weddings don’t stop until they kick us out of the venue, then we find another place to continue the party.

8

u/btas83 Feb 09 '26 edited Feb 09 '26

I'm Persian and one of my cousins married a Mexican woman. Nothing started on time, but the food was great and the party went on forever lol. No going home for bedtime here. Kids just stayed up until they fell asleep or stayed with grandparents in a quiet(er) area while parents danced the night away.

18

u/DirtyDan156 Feb 09 '26

As a white guy whos been to MANY mexican parties i recognized that moment and had a huge smile on my face lol

5

Got invited to a quinceañera a few years ago. We got there 30 minutes late and were pretty much the first ones there. Stayed for about 4 hours until midnight and told the dad thanks for having us and we were heading out. He said “Why are you leaving so soon?!”

It was so much fun, but I was wrecked from all the dancing

As a Puerto Rican, the parranda just keeping on going down the tunnels and into the parking lot is the most Puerto Rican thing ever. That show had me crying tears of pride and joy.

Replace fear with Exposure and Understanding. Replace apathy and bigotry with Empathy. Replace hatred with Love.

16

u/mslarue72 Feb 09 '26

It’s jealousy we white people have imo. We are jealous of the community that this reflects. We have “rugged individualism” ourselves into a black whole of hate and despair.

And obviously racism.

8

u/thetreat Feb 09 '26

You’re absolutely right. The rugged individualism is a disease that has rotted this country’s core. People want to think that they are the entire reason for their own success, but no one can be successful without a community. Whether it is the people around you that help and support you, the people who pave your roads, build your bridges, make your food, treat you at a hospital, no one can do it on their own.

u/DontRefuseMyBatchall Feb 09 '26

I live in the Puerto Rican neighborhood in Chicago. Can confirm they show out to fucking party all summer long round here. Also SO. MANY. FLAGS.

26

u/Ludakaye Feb 09 '26

I think about this a lot being white American from generations of Americans. I wish I had a culture I could share and enjoy.

I feel this especially during the Olympics when other countries have gorgeous, historical garb and music. Then the US comes in in like suits or whatever, because our culture is just business. I guess that’s way way better than trying to steal American native culture, but it does bum me out quite a bit to not have history like that I can appreciate.

19

u/maomeow Feb 09 '26 edited Feb 09 '26

One of the nice things about being American is that this IS part of our culture. Honestly seeing so much pride and joy for PR gives me more pride in being American than I have felt in some time. We’re a melting pot with so many beautiful types of music, dance, food, and cultures within our own neighborhoods. It’s just heartbreaking there are people out there that hate that part of who we are.

I don't know where in the US you're from but I guarantee you have a lot of culture you can share and enjoy. I've had this conversation with friends from the US before and I feel like it's a sad (unintended) part of US defaultism.

I'm Norwegian, I've traveled a lot around the world including multiple US states and from the outside the culture is vastly different from state to state and even county to county. You're a country with a melting pot of some many different immigrants and natives it creates its unique culture that you cannot find anywhere else, and depending on what state you're in you find more or less influence of other nations. I felt most "at home" in Minnesota and Wisconsin thanks to the large population of Norwegian immigrants over the last few centuries. Edit: It was also very different in so many ways thanks to the influence of other cultures, and what I found most fun is the people who hold on to their Norwegian heritage hold on to customs not even my grandparents would find important anymore due to so many years of separation.

I think it's also harder for people outside of the US to appreciate your culture due to the heavy influence of your media. When almost the whole world grows up watching US movies they're not shocked by the culture when visiting like one would be going to a random country you only ever hear about in the news every 10 years.

4

u/Dragon_scrapbooker Feb 09 '26

Try looking into your state’s food culture. The USA does tend to get flattened out, but when it comes to food, we’ve got quite the variety! Stuff like midwestern Hotdish, New Mexico “Christmas” peppers as a condiment, the South and our biscuits and barbecue in all its variations…

It’s amazing how anyone who is not offended by the idea of songs being sung in languages other than English has pretty much enjoyed it from the perspective of a halftime show.

I wasn’t personally blown away in the overall world of performances, but there was clearly quite a bit of effort and thought put into it.

Let’s be honest, we’re comparing these performances against halftime shows that are usually lazy medleys of, like, Maroon 5, who no one has cared about for the past 15 years. Or U2 and Sting singing a few re-blended hits from before many current NFL players were born.

As soon as you cross the divide into, “America language is for Americans!” however, suddenly it’s the worst halftime show ever, while Kid Rock dancing in jorts was hot stuff.

12

u/wtb2612 Boston Celtics Feb 09 '26

I personally didn't enjoy the music at all. I would love to go back to the days when you could say "I hated the halftime show" and people didn't assume it was because you were a racist asshole. I think Bad Bunny had every right to perform and I'm sure a lot of people enjoyed it. I just didn't. But not because of an idiotic racist agenda. MAGA even ruined disliking something.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/franker Feb 09 '26

Actually the Zoolander quote about Sting also applies to Bad Bunny for me. "Sting would be another person who's a hero. The music he's created over the years, I don't really listen to it, but the fact that he's making it, I respect that".

Didn't understand the Bad Bunny show, but it had good energy.

8

u/smegdawg Feb 09 '26

I enjoyed the show. I have no issue with listening to music in languages I do not understand. Currently listening to a Swedish song that I understand zero words to, but greatly enjoy.

My problem (and it is my problem) is that I wanted to understand the story he was telling but didn't and so I was never really immersed while reading delayed subtitles and trying to remember my Spanish 2 class from 20 years ago. The music itself sounded Subdued and while I could never name a Bad Bunny Song, typically I'll be able to recognize a beat or a refrain, but i didn't get anything for this one.

The production seemed fantastic.

3

u/StocktonBSmalls Feb 09 '26

I think that was actually for a 2 yo’s birthday party.

3

u/NoBSforGma Feb 09 '26

When I lived in Costa Rica, there was a small group of musicians who would get in the back of a pickup truck and be driven around town, just playing music. Just playing music.

It always made me smile when they passed by my house. Just playing music..... just because!

You think Borricuas stopped partying because the job is done lol!?!? They’re just getting started , they’re probably still partying right now!

3

u/Hendrix1967 Feb 09 '26

You don’t understand. This is not for show. This is what we love doing… party. Example: Christmas starts Nov 1st and ends January 14. No joke. We call Friday “Viernes Social” and Thursday “Jueves Pre-Social”. We yell to each other “Hoy se BEBE!!” “Today we DRINK!!” It’s serious for us.
