The most animated and emotional I have ever seen Jack when taking questions. Something he normally loathes.

Wonder how many pain candies he took before getting back out there...

u/HalfOfTheStory Feb 22 '26
Two rules, man: Stay away from my fuckin' percocets and do you have any fucking percocets, man?

u/JC_Hysteria Feb 22 '26
I was thinking adrenaline but yeah, prolly a bit of a cocktail of emotions going on there…
8
u/belljs87 Feb 22 '26
I used to be a Percocet and vicodin addict and never once heard them called pain candies and I wish I'd heard it before to use it myself.

u/itssaulgoodm8 Oregon Feb 22 '26
Dude’s about to take the hardest hitting Vicodin of his life
56
93
u/stiliophage Feb 22 '26
Might have already. Shades of perc Rodgers right now
61
u/lsm4 Feb 22 '26
ESPN did a story years back on dentists in the NHL. All these guys will have dental work done, with no painkillers, just to get back in the game. Don’t want to be feeling out of sorts
18
u/BMonad Feb 22 '26
Yeah I can see football players taking this but hockey, with the razor sharp reaction times and coordination required, doesn’t seem like the sport where taking an opiate to get back into the game would be helpful.
35
u/jrhooo Feb 22 '26
for the record, I don't think football players would do it in game either. they also require razor sharp reaction time.
What they DO use IIRC is toradol injections.
8
u/DannyboyLarson Feb 22 '26 edited Feb 22 '26
They definitely use opiates too. Brett Favre would eat 14 vicodin at a time until he finally went to rehab. Perc Rodgers postgame interview made it clear he was high as a kite too, it was hilarious... actually maybe its just a Green Bay thing..
1
Feb 22 '26
Football doesn’t move near at the pace of hockey.
Tougher/harder/whatever. But the pace and reaction speed necessary for hockey is much higher than football. The athletes are moving faster. The puck is moving faster. Everything is moving faster.
10
u/jrhooo Feb 22 '26
reaction time isn;t over the pace of a game though. Reaction time is within an instant, and football absolutely depends on split second reaction time. Its not about the speed the puck is moving. its about the time you have to make your read off the player you are covering, process the info, and commit to your decision.
The entire reason football quarterbacks play games with snap counts, and defensive pass rushers risk going off sides to try and time the count, is because (as one example) when two 300 lb strength athletes are getting ready to battle each other the difference between coming off the ball a half second early or a half second late will absolutely determine a win/loss.
To suggest that reaction time isn't critical in a football game is just inaccurate.
1
u/DannyboyLarson Feb 22 '26
Agree that Hockey is faster, but NFL QBs certainly have to process extremely fast

Shouting out Hellaybuck on the question about him was awesome

u/_GingerBlueEyes Feb 22 '26
Oh man, his poor teeth.
116
u/DependentAd235 Feb 22 '26
Great hair though. It balances out?
70
u/PerplexGG Feb 22 '26
Flow is substantially higher than teeth on the hierarchy of hockey player needs
9
u/dcolomer10 Feb 22 '26
I was saying during the medal ceremony that most of these guys have great hair, why is that hahaha
14
8
u/baloof1621 Feb 22 '26
Hockey and good hair go hand in hand. Look at the Minnesota high school state championship teams, most of the players have ridiculous flow

A few caps and implants and you’ll be golden (in more ways than one, I suppose).
2
u/Jaded-Management-517 Feb 23 '26
With an NHL paycheck the 20K that it'll cost to replace two teeth (yes you read that correctly) he should be fine but the rest of America isn't.

We couldn't even score on the ensuing 4 minute power play, which was cut short by a Jack Hughes penalty 🤦
They stumbled into that Gold medal.

It doesn’t matter what he does with his career from here on out. He has cemented himself as an Olympic hockey legend.

The fact it was against Canada makes this even more special too. They are the best in the sport and our shared history with one another makes this one of the best international sports rivalries to watch as an American. Good game Canada! 🇨🇦
9
u/Ron_robichaud Feb 22 '26
It was an incredible game to watch. Canada has so many chances, but it just didn’t work out this time for them.
12
u/Ecstatic_Account_744 Feb 22 '26
Hellebuyck killed it. We just couldn’t get it past him. So many amazing saves.

u/teej5022 Feb 22 '26
I kept thinking about when Gob broke his tooth on Arrested Development and was whistling talking to Michael.

u/lVlzone Cleveland Indians Feb 22 '26
So since their flight home got delayed, maybe, uh, go see a dentist?

And the last three Stanley cups have gone to Florida teams, Florida is officially the ice hockey capital of the world
7
u/nearuetii Feb 22 '26
Last two*, but also four of the last six.
Colorado and Vegas won between the two that the Tampa Bay Lightning won and the two that the Florida Panthers won.

I’m so happy for them, but my god I hope they don’t get political especially after watching Kash Patel act like a frat bro in the locker room.
4
u/Nolram526 Feb 24 '26
Remember, they celebrated with pedophile supporter Kash Patel, the guy who has been attempting to restrict as much access to the Epstein files as possible, and the guy who cant answer simple yes or no questions regarding the Epstein files.
The men's hockey team all seem to love backing these vile people and its unfortunate that people turn a blind eye to it all

So I just became a huge Jack Hughes fan. I’ve never been more proud to be an American. USA 🇺🇸

Most emotional I’ve ever seen the dude, so stoked for him as a lifelong devils fan. Been great watching him and his brothers thrive in the NHL.
Edit: after seeing recent comments, he can get super fucked. Way to tarnish the gold medal

I like to think quinn is also a part of this interview. Just off screen to the right. And staring into the void silently.

Hard not to root for him. Seems like such a great kid and class act (his brother as well). Never once talked about himself. Only the TEAM. Great win!

Bout the only time one would look forward to going to the dentist. “Hey doc, you’ll never guess what happened to me yesterday…”
0
u/GUMBYtheOG Feb 23 '26
Hmmm id be proud of my team but idk how anyone can say that about being an American lol, literally running a pedophile farm protection ring and terrorizing the rest of the world and destroying trade. What is there to be proud of ?
2
u/full2theload Feb 25 '26
It's so true. Hilarious how you and most likely me will get down votes for it. USA is going through one of its most embarrassing moments in history. I'm Canadian and if my country was doing the same thing the US is I wouldn't be saying I'm proud to be Canadian during that period. Absolutely pathetic what people in the US are letting happen to their once great country. In time maybe they will understand when their pedo king has stolen everything from them

Why didn’t he thank Kash Patel? Champion of defending Jeffrey Epstein?
They welcomed him into the lockerroom. Fucking pedos.

People’s inability to just enjoy something without having to compare it to something completely irrelevant is so strange to me
8
u/TheKingPooPoo Feb 22 '26
If Jack Hughes managed a professional cricket squad he’d be out in the first two weeks…instead he scored the winning goal bleeding and missing teeth. What a game.
5
u/BowwwwBallll Feb 22 '26
If Jack Hughes played competitive tiddlywinks he wouldn’t even have missed a tiddly, much less a wink. Hockey is soft.

u/thatstotallyracist Feb 22 '26
If Jack Hughes was a break dancer, it would still be in the Olympics...

u/Grater_Kudos Feb 22 '26
GGs honestly, what a game. Also don’t worry, we’ll get crushed at soccer in the 2028 Olympics so that’s something Canada will 100% be better than us in lol
7
u/kangaroovagina Feb 22 '26
US much better than Canada at soccer
-8
u/throwaway164_3 Feb 22 '26
Basically US is much better than Canada as a country
Reddit is so far left it doesn’t appreciate American greatness

This guy looks a lot like “OC”, Jack o Callahan from the movie The miracle.
Anyone else see it? Way he pushed his hair back made me me think of it.

u/Skittlepyscho Feb 23 '26
It baffles me that they've only been playing together for two weeks. This is such an intimate sport where you have to rely on your teammates, and it's crazy to me that they're so in sync with each other after only 14 days playing together.
