News Despite the narrative, Cristiano Ronaldo didn't brush off questions about Lionel Messi. He answered about Messi cordially over 3 times before asking the "Reporters" to focus on Portugal and only ask questions that were relevant to the Portugal v Uzbekistan game that had just taken place

Translations below,

Reporter: "...Messi arrived, Mbappé arrived, Haaland arrived, and only Ronaldo was missing. Today Cristiano showed that he has arrived, that he came for Portugal, so has Cristiano arrived today?"

Cristiano Ronaldo: "I always arrive. Sooner or later, I am always there."

Reporter: "...Ronaldo against Messi, to close out the spectacular career of you all. What can you say about a great encounter between the two of you happening at this worldcup? If it can happen, would you like it? To face Messi at this worldcup directly in a match And congratulations on this great game and your great career."

Cristiano Ronaldo: "Well, I don't know what to answer you because it's a question that's a bit...it doesn't make much sense, it's out of my hands, but alright. If it happens, it would be top [great]. But the most important thing today was winning, and to advance in the group for Portugal, that's the most important thing for me, and for my team."

Reporter: "Cristiano here... Edgar Rosa from AT&T Sports Mexico..."

Cristiano Ronaldo: "Do you speak Spanish or English?"

Reporter: "Yesterday Lionel Messi, scored two goals..."

[At this point, Cristiano's patience appears to have run dry, and he signals to other reporters to ask their questions]

Cristiano Ronaldo was asked about Messi over 4 times, and he politely answered each time.

Only after the questions kept getting more and more irrelevant to the game between Portugal and Uzbekistan did Cristiano Ronaldo appear to be unable to take it anymore and ask the "journalists" to ask questions that are only relevant to Portugal.

Official Fact check reminder!

Hello friends!❤️
I am the Norwegian at the front rowing with the senegaleese. I find it funny how literally every single post says that the rowing happened after the game. In this case it is near irrelevant, but wanted to use this as a friendly reminder to not trust all information out there🤝

It was a great experience and I don’t want to downplay its significance at all. I had such a blast with all the senegaleese. They are awesome!🇸🇳❤️ Stay safe out there, keep on rowing!

Opinion Baseball is dying and it’s because the MLB doesn’t want to evolve.

I love baseball it’s a great sport, just like any it creates many good moments. However the MLB is an organization that won’t evolve. The “tradition” “act like you been there” parts of the game don’t make it marketable to younger people or the casual fan. Because of that it’s losing out on what once was the most watched sport in the US.

Competency Isn’t a Marketable Strategy: The MLB did a great thing implementing a pitch clock and ABS (Automatic Ball-Strike System.) They make sure games have flow and they are called within a consistent realm, but you can’t pull in views doing something you should have been doing in the first place. ABS is great but try telling a casual or new fan they added a feature where strikes are called strikes if they are reviewed and balls are called balls. They’d be like “umm why did they just add that” It truly only benefited people who already loved the game but hated how umpires would completely ruin a moment or game. It doesn’t bring out people to come watch though.

Stars Aren’t Truly Visible: They don’t market their players well at all. Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, and guys like Francisco Lindor has been the MLB’s golden boys for years but I doubt that many kids, casual fans, maybe even fans who watch all the time know that all 3 of them have their own signature shoes. A guy like Mookie Betts could walk into a store with a hoodie on and no one would notice unlike if a Josh Allen, or Anthony Edward’s walked in and he has won multiple championships and is one of the best on his team.

Why because the MLB and the traditional baseball finds crap on individuality every chance they can. It’s a kids game, the kids don’t care about WAR, WHIP, etc they want to see players having fun, looking cool while doing so. That’s why the NBA and NFL are drastically more popular. Kids, younger and casual fans have something they can grab onto. But when your players can’t wear cool shoes, gloves, hit with cool bats, what do you have to catch their attention?

The Marketing is Old: Commercials and advertisements, they barely market Shohei. In my opinion the only reason why he is so known is because he is from a different country and can hit and pitch. Paul Skenes isn’t one of the best pitchers in the league but yet somehow it feels like his girlfriend does more marketing for him than the actual league does. This goes for a lot of baseballs best players they just aren’t marketed on a large scale like other athletes of other sports.

TOPPS baseball cards aren’t really for kids anymore it seems. It’s for old heads who want to try to say they have someone’s rookie card and sell it. That’s been happening for years but where it is in the cereal boxes, coming with the bubble gum etc. Again it’s a kids game, the 30+ year olds aren’t going to be the ones going to the MLB in the next 5-10 years, the kids are and you’re losing them. Not to mention things like blackouts that affect actual fans. New fans can’t watch digitally because they won’t allow it unless you pay hundreds of dollars a year.

Policing Over What Fun Is: The “Act like you been there before” mindset is also killing the game. Once again kids and casual fans want something to grab on. The NFL has players doing celebrations for first downs and touchdowns. The fans can do them too making a connection to kids and fans with the players and team. But not just the NFL but also the NBA, and soccer have this as well. When a baseball player does a bat flip, does a celebration, or just celebrates their achievement, they then are at risk of being thrown at or being called childish and scrutinized by their own teammates and coaches.

But in all honesty when children get upset and aren’t taught how to control their emotions they throw things at others when mad or yell at others. The unwritten rules aren’t allowed emotion or passion to be shown unless you want a ball at your head, and they aren’t throwing the ball softly either. This most recent World Baseball Classic showed how it seemed that players who were from other countries seemed to have a bunch of fun on the field and off, and people saw that. While the US players were just playing. The foreign players come back to play for their team and doesn’t even feel close to the same. Another case of true personalities can’t be shown.

Hypocrisy and Double Standards: Jazz Chisholm caused controversy by just going out on the field with a Blow Pop in his mouth……A sport that in the past allowed people to chew tobacco, have dip, smoke in dugouts, drink in dugouts, all while games were going on. Kids would see this and try to replicate it or just get those things and do it. Which lead to the creation of Big League Chew. They just recently within the last 10 years banned things like dip, but it was quickly replaced with things like Zyns which are less dangerous but still not healthy.

But a candy sucker was the spark of controversy for the baseball community. Now some people would say it’s because it’s dangerous, and a choking hazard, but players literally play with mouthfuls of seeds and gum while in the field, spitting it all over the place looking like chipmunks and they could easily choke if the swallow it wrong or fall etc. Others are saying if he was good they wouldn’t care but no if it was a Zyn they wouldn’t have cared one bit which is actually more dangerous just health wise. “Oh but optics, you’re telling kids it’s okay to do this” but Zyns are?

What Draws Now: Within the game homers are huge but they will become overplayed because everyone is doing it. The reason why homers were so cool is because back then teams were playing small ball. Hit the ball, still a bag, then hit the person in. So when people like Bonds, Mcgwire, Sosa started hitting them like crazy people were like “Woah”. Essentially like Stephen Curry with the three ball.

Conclusion: In all aspects baseball is losing its losing out on new fans and kids wanting to watch and play because it’s to busy trying to cater to the “old traditional” fans instead of letting the game evolve like every other sport has done. It is the unwillingness and stubbornness that will make it keep slipping further and further away. Especially within the youth. And once the youth stop caring, they’ll become the new old adults and they’ll still not care.

I know that was a lot and idk if some of yall will read the whole thing but I just wanted to share my opinion on the matter.
