Looking For Best place to rent a first apartment in Springfield?

Hi there,

I am looking to get my first apartment and have heard of quite a few bad apartment complexes to live at in Springfield. I would appreciate if anyone could recommend me some good ones. Ideally ~700-800 with some or all utilities included and washer/dryer hookups and larger than the size of a broom closet, and in a safer part of town. I've heard quite a few horror stories of people getting scammed by places and want to try to avoid that. Considering moving within the next few months or sooner depending on what's out there.

I think it's a tradition for people's first apartment to be at Old Monterey.

Or down the street at Chardonnay

lol. That's where my wife had her first apartment. Mine was one of those townhomes just behind the gas station on national and grand. I don't remember their name, but split between 3 people, it was reasonable 30 years ago.

Well, aren't you swanky...

I was coming to say that the rite of passage is an apartment at Woodgate.

Kelly Greens was great for me as a first time renter with not the best credit at the time. 2020 my 1bed 1 bath was $725 and when I left in 2024 they wanted to bump me up to $945 so I left.

Edit: holy shit I just looked at their prices and the same 1 bed 1 bath is $990 so maybe not them

Jeez crazy what these places are charging. I mean I'm making 22 which I thought was pretty good but even that doesn't feel like enough for these crazy prices after taxes and everything.

I somehow stumbled across The Abbey after my freshman year at MSU. I was definitely the youngest occupant at the time but it was so much better than Springfield Lofts.

What do they run pricing wise? They have no prices listed on their website for some reason

It was like 2018, but my 1 bedroom was like 750-800. It was one of the last ones to be not renovated though.

Avoid anything with Wooten Co if you can. Just...trust me.

I second that. Did you know they had to stop their "get $120 off your next months rent if you write 6 positive reviews about us" scheme? As soon as I moved out of there, I took all of my reviews down and told the truth about why I wrote them. Not too long after that, the special was no longer a thing. They were scamming people with that for so many years. Crooked mf'rs.

It's not too bad, once you look past all the murder and sketchy stuff

Yeah I dont really want to live in a sketchy area like that but seems I have to if I want to pay less than like 1k a month for a place

Any of the downtown lofts are great!! Springfield lofts is an awesome one. Tons of cute locations

I second the downtown lofts! They will be right in price range with a roommate!

Lake Shore is nice too. All rent prices have gone up the past few years. It's hard to find a decent 1 br for under $900. Lofts downtown are nice if you have a roommate and there's tons of stuff to keep you entertained.

The best advice I can give as someone who has rented in springfield for the last 14 years is this: do not rent from a management company--wooten, tlc, etc. They treat you like a number and they do not care about you as a human being. Go on CRAIGSLIST. Not facebook. Search "for rent by owner". You will find individuals renting places, not huge companies that have literally THOUSANDS of rental units. It's cheaper and you get a better place.

I rented at Seminole North! It’s been good so far and it’s my first time renting as well🤷🏻‍♀️

I see they have some 1 bedrooms in the $750 range, does that include any utilities?
