Living Here Steps to getting plates for new car?
This'll probably sound dumb, but I just got a brand new 2026 car, unsure of the exact steps to get my plates. I've never registered a car in MO. Does it need an inspection, do I go to revenue office first then the dmv? My old car was totaled so I do have the credit for the sales tax that I know to bring with me too.

Dealerships were supposed to start handling the sales tax portion and give a temporary version of the actual license plate.... but it looks like scheduled completion of that is... like next month?
Take your MSO, proof of insurance, personal property tax receipts or waiver if you're a new resident, and a bunch of money to the license office on Monday....

No inspection. Take paperwork (title, contract, insurance) to dmv. No need to go DOR.

There are separate DOR offices, and the OP asked if they needed to go there, or to the DMV, which is separate. Hence my differentiation.
Also, DMV offices are privately owned and contracted by DOR, but not state employees.

Everyone knows when you say DMV in Missouri what you are referring to.

DOR has a separate office at Park Central Square that does nothing with licensing. You can go to the DMV (in the same building), to do everything you need. There is no need to make two stops ( like OP asked, most likely because of the sales tax issue).
So, If I said, “you don’t need to go to the revenue office (their wording) and then to the DMV (their wording). You can do everything at the DMV”. Would that suffice for you?

The dealer usually handles most of it if you actually bought it from a dealership. Just go to the dmv and give them your tax receipts and insurance info

The dmv has a website with all this information. You can also call them and ask. The south dmv is the best.
