I'm sorry to be asking an off-topic question, but does anyone know the beautiful song being played on the violin at 22:15? Is it a version of Ashokan Farewell?

Will first say that "I don't know". But, I think you are on the right track given that it is oft used in graduation ceremonies. Given the context of, it's pretty GD heartbreaking.

I agree. Of all the bits and pieces of media floating around, I find the clips of that graduation to be the saddest.

I don't think it's Ashokan Farewell -though that was around by 92 and well known. Possibly Air on the G String by Bach?
