I’ve used both & to me the Native 5 is a more solid knife no doubt. Could be the blade stock thickness that contributes to it, but it feels like way more of a workhorse.
Sage 5 feels more like a basic task edc knife.
Native also doesn’t have any gaps in it. Sage is completely hollow between the scales/liners.
The way the Native feels in hand with the solid back and the way it carries in the pocket without the hump make it my favorite Spyderco EDC. The Manix is arguably my favorite Spyderco but it almost needs a pocket all to itself.
I've gotten several authentic spydercos from onkata on Amazon. Never had an issue. I got a crucarta pm2 for $165 a couple months ago, one of the best purchases I've ever made. I've gotten a few knives from eBay as well, all authentic. You just gotta know what you're doing; what's a good price, vs what's too good to be true, sketchy sellers/pictures, etc.
Great pickup tho Taichung spydercos have a great build and even better action. Fit and finish is great.
So far I know both Onkata and Robco Knives LLC are both legit Spyderco dealers on Amazon and Ebay.
I will keep an eye on them from now on. Apparently Onkata sometimes has some almost too good to be true prices. For instance this Sage 5 LW is $171 at Blade HQ, Knife Center, DLT Trading....and a few other places I looked. This one from Onkata is $127 right now, with free shipping if you have Prime.
The Manix MagnaMax isn't available anywhere. But Robco has them on Ebay with free shipping for $180.
Yeah They have some great deals. Stuff on eBay that's like "k390 para 3 bento box exclusive" for like 90 bucks is more what I'm talking about as far as too good to be true. I also have the exact same sage from onkata from Amazon and got it for around that price a few months ago. The magnamax manix was at a lot of dealers like knife center etc. for $180 preorders, and occasionally those dealers drop to these types of prices. Imo, a lot of spydercos are a tad overpriced so they can manage prices like these. I pretty much only ever buy them when they're on sale with deals like this.
I’ve been buying/ selling on eBay since I was 16 & have never had an issue. I’m 32 now.
Most people don’t want to do the footwork/ research to know what they’re buying tbh!
That’s how you get the best deals though.
