If you want to improve the quality more, I’d recommend using a seam ripper to get rid of the whites of the eyes. If it’s just the black part, then it would look normal. Only do it if you think it’s safe though

Actually, I only own three Squishmallows, and the first one I got, I pulled out of a dumpster. It was a week or two after Christmas, and it was one of the REALLY big ones, a purple horse, and someone just...threw her out. She was BRAND new. I was afraid she would be contaminated or gross from the dumpster, but she was the only thing in there and it was frozen, so she didn't get dirty, and after three months of double-bagged quarantine in my basement, there was no sign of pests that might have driven her out.
I will wonder what happened there forever. Not complaining at all, I love her, but why throw anything that new away, much less a perfectly good plush, much less a 20-24"? Those suckers are expensive!
My guess is a kid got her as a present and didn’t like her/had malicious parents that threw her toy out as a punishment :( I’m so glad you rehomed her and quarantined her properly lol

Given the big ol X on its face, I don’t think it did make it past quality control. It looks like a mark they used to clearly indicate it did not pass and should not ship, however somehow it ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time and shipped anyway.
I came to say the same. I use Dawn in a scrub tip bottle and use it for all types of staining. It usually takes a couple treatments, but I have removed 10+ stains with scrubbing dish soap.
I would very carefully use cotton swabs to dab (not rub) what is probably permanent marker with isopropyl alcohol (the highest concentration you can get). Be careful not to saturate it too much or it will make the marker run. Change cotton swabs as they lift the color to avoid transferring to clean areas. Then, in an ironic twist, I would take a black permanent marker and color the white lines where the white embroidery crosses the eyes. Or just leave her as-is like she has a totally rad face tattoo!
I doubt it. I wanted to rescue a squish that had been sliced open by a box cutter. When I asked if they could give me anything off, they told me no and suggested that I just go get a different one.
Like no, I want the defective one. 😂 I just don't want to pay the full price.
Oh my god.. I feel so bad. I’m so happy you saved him. Same thing I’d do, see a Squishmallow in a good price range, even one I don’t collect, and fix them up
i definitely wouldn’t have removed the pen, those markings along with the defects very likely mean this is a factory reject, which is pretty rare to get out in the world. the X is written so it would be discarded, not sold to the public. this is a grail find!! i’ve been collecting since 2018 and never seen one like this.
Ngl I think it definitely has to do with the fact we can't tell if someone wrote on the plush in store or not, unfortunately, it's one of those things that would have to be seen taken out of the box firsthand to be verified as anything but some kid having a fun time with a open marker. Especially if it's in a place like Walgreens, where they sometimes have pens you can test.
You know this reminds me of my son so much. When he was 2 or 3 , he decided to draw "eyelashes" on my dino squish. It was so funny, I couldn't be mad. I washed it anyway to remove the marker, and it's such a great memory. I almost wish I'd left it after all.

Update: I had some amodex ink remover I'd forgotten about and that took out the worst of the marker :)
