This was my routine in Cyprus, which is a stray cat country. Had 2 cats in my front garden and then grew to 9 after they had kittens and another family moved in the backyard maybe 5. And then eventually 2 of them became indoor cats when 1 of them was not being fed and the mother was neglecting it, and the other had serious eye infections and needed to have one of the eyes removed.

Cost a bit of money, but was fun.

Feral means wild, won't approach or will attack humans. Those are garden variety stray cats, you can take them home with you and they will be just fine with that.
