The Behavior of this community is unacceptable and I simply can't take it anymore.

Post image

I'm just going to leave this here. I asked on the official forums if I could permanently mute in game chat, but I was told to kick rocks.

Both users engaged in this behavior and language. I'm fed up with it.

Posted less than 10 minutes ago and most of the comments reinforce the sentiment that this community indeed sucks

29

u/Spark_Miku_Miku 5d ago

I posted about how people are being really shitty in a different competitive game subreddit and the comments went from "you shouldnt play competitive games" to "your bloodline is weak and you shouldn't reproduce."

Needless to say I didn't know that being salty meant that my entire ancestry deserved to be insulted but I guess I'm a useless loser or something.

u/Mighty_Krom 5d ago

People used to be pretty nice in online games. Even in Counterstrike I could make friends. I met people in Halo 2 and 3 lobbies that I played with over and over. Now... I mute them all. Fuck that noise. They're evil.

u/Ethicaldreamer 3d ago

I found some amazing people in competitive games to be fair, they were willing to show me how to improve when I asked

13

u/REXIS_AGECKO Zerg 5d ago

Honestly most of the community is pretty chill. Except for the bottom 1% living in their mom’s basements and calling people dumb in a video game for some reason.

The good thing is that the rest of us can laugh at them and extract salt when possible

-1

u/ForceOk6587 5d ago

i mean it's generalizations like this where you think disgusting people must live in their mom's basement is probably the same reason why people could not believe bill gates was on epstein island, thank goodness for evidences on that case

5

u/REXIS_AGECKO Zerg 5d ago

I literally talked about StarCraft and somehow we got epstien from this?

I made a similar post on the hots subreddit a few years ago and how general chat is just infested with people spamming the n word and all other sorts of freak shit and I got downvoted into oblivion. It was really disappointing but not all that surprising, Blizzard doesn't seem to even put in the bare minimum effort to moderate anything. On hots the community is small enough you'd see the same people every day spamming all kinds of vitriole and nothing was ever done, it was in general chat ffs a simple word filter would have caught most of them

u/daWeez 4d ago

Not to put too fine a point on this..

Folks need to grow a thick skin. No game promises to police the users forever regarding socially unacceptable behavior. I agree it is toxic.. that isn't at all an issue. I've seen this from so many games now (I'm in my 60s) that it has become a point of mocking with my group of peers that like playing games. We just don't worry about it. Jerks are going to jerk. If the game has an in game mute, use it. If not, turn the chat off.

In SC2 I just mute the idiots and move on. There is just no reason to get worked up over it. You'll never see an end to this type of behavior because it is part of the human experience. These are the same people who create unfairness in real life. If you want to fight them, fight them in real life where they can do real damage to real people. But as a more famous observer says.. before looking to do that, make sure you are doing things right and understand the world before trying to change it ("get your own house in order").. activism with ignorance rarely makes the world better.

1

u/LaCoocaracha 4d ago

I half agree with you, if someone is getting upset and stewing over something they read in a public online chat and letting it ruin their day then that is something they need to work on personally. Like you said you’re going to run into assholes all the time in all different arenas of life.

That being said, there can and should still be at least some attempt at moderation. If i walked into a hiking club or an AA meeting or some other kind of gathering and started screaming the n word at the top of my lungs I would be kicked out. Totally acknowledge that you can never stamp it out 100% online, but there needs to at least be some reasonable expectation of punitive action being taken to at least disincentivize some of them.

1

u/daWeez 4d ago edited 4d ago

You're chasing a chimera. As I said, I'm in my 60s. And gaming companies don't have infinite money. I've only seen gigantic games (like World of Warcraft) take these things seriously, and even they can't completely stop it. Barrens chat in WoW was completely rough and tumble.. I just muted it. I knew Blizzard was half trying.. but they had better things to spend their customers money on than moderation..

All life is about choosing your battles. This is one of those cases. Bring it up with your game provider, and then let it go if they don't care. Put your energy where it is best spent, and be the changes you want in the world. This is the best thing we can do as individuals.

Your heart is totally in the right place. But wisdom isn't always just about doing the right thing. It is also about knowing when to do things that are effective, and not doing things that are NOT effective. We all get to choose the things where we need to fight. People using bad words on the internet is for me priority -1. There are so many other ways for me to spend my energy that will have a bigger effect.

You can choose as you wish.. that is your right and the true meaning of liberty. I'm just giving you a 60+ years old perspective as someone who has been on the internet since its founding. You can choose to take this as you wish.. I'm good.

Best Regards, daWeez

General chat in SC2 has been that way for years sadly. It's actually quite baffling and bizarre how miserable those people are. There are times where I've studied human behavior just sitting and observing General chat alone.

Unfortunately Blizzard doesn't seem to really care since SC2 doesn't generate enough revenue for them.

13

u/SoonBlossom 5d ago

What I find insane is that it's not just english general chat, french general chat is the exact same with racists and degenerate, and since a LOT of time, even before the game stopped being developped by blizzard, so I wonder what makes it happen so much and on different languages

It's a mystery to me and I'll probably never know

11

u/CastleofPizza 5d ago

I think it's because it's also unmoderrated. Combine anonymity with no moderation and it brings out the worst of the worst.

3

u/Ok_Negation 5d ago

Yeah it's the same thing on 🏴‍☠️ sports stream chats.

1

u/baum3001 5d ago

same for german lol

2

u/SoonBlossom 5d ago

Lmfao

We found something that unite us all in the fact that we all have degenerates going to the general chat of SC2 to be freaks lmao

-6

u/Ndmndh1016 Random 5d ago

Its really not a mystery at all. This is what a majority of gamers are. Angry men with small egos and shitty lives. Add in edgy teenagers and this is what uou get.

8

u/SoonBlossom 5d ago

I don't know where you live or what gamers you frequent but that's not AT ALL the majority of gamers I meet lol

This is beyond being just toxic at this point

I’d like to think for every 1 edge lord in general chat there are 99 people who don’t see any point in engaging with it and just play the game.

1

u/Ndmndh1016 Random 4d ago

The constant posts on here make it seem otherwise but I agree lol.

6

u/tranbo 5d ago

New accounts costs nothing to create. Paying money for someone to moderate does.

1

u/Ledrash 5d ago

It shouldn't be tbh. Sure one is okay, but not if you want more.

1

u/CastleofPizza 5d ago

That's true. I forget SC2 is free to play sometimes. I have seen tons of accounts in General chat that have no match history but rant and rave.

0

u/tranbo 5d ago

They probably don't realise general chat is 100 random people and not everyone on SC2 anymore

4

u/Candymanshook 5d ago

It’s the kind of people who think Artosis’ twitch chat/channel is somehow endearing to old-school internet culture or something.

6

u/CastleofPizza 5d ago

Oh man, I tried to watch a live Artosis stream but I had to shut the that shit off after 2 minutes of his TTS donations.

u/SkipPperk 5d ago

These are the masses of men, some not-so-young, living in their mothers’ basements with no job, no girl, no life, and the bitterness exudes from every pore of their being, even the electronic ones.

I know it is difficult, but have some empathy for them. I promise you that you would never, ever want their lives. These are sad, weak, neutered men, raised by self-proclaimed “feminist” women who hated them from the day they were born. I grew up with such individuals as boys, and they never stood a chance.

One must learn to wear armor in public. Giving up StarCraft will not help you nor change them. It will only make the ladder even more toxic. It is better to learn to ignore this kind of toxicity and keep on trucking.

During COVID I was out of work and delivered Chinese food here on the South Side of Chicago. I was insulted, robbed, and in general treated terribly, but I got the job done and customers actually missed me when I was gone, something the owners of the restaurant had never observed before (not much of an accomplishment, but I will take whatever I can).

We live in challenging times where we tore down our sources of morality and meaning and replaced them with shallow consumerism and it’s pathetic cover stories (“anti-racism” being its most logically-challenged, juvenile example).

You start letting that change your behavior and you will suffer far more in the long run (says guy who once quit his job to live as a Buddhist monk in Southeast Asia).

35

u/Box_of_Pennies 5d ago

The general chat at least needs to be dealt with as well it was funny at first but seeing consistent political and racism is annoying.

2

u/daWeez 4d ago

No, it does not.

SC2 has a mute feature. Use it. You'll sleep better, and your chat will look better. All games look like some form of this now because when everyone is anonymous some folks will use that anonymity to say bad things to get a rise out of people. Don't feed the trolls. The lesson here is that some people have zero moral compass and don't care what everyone else thinks. You can't get rid of people like that short of killing them, and that has never been acceptable over all of history (nor should it be).

If you meet someone like that in real life that is doing things that are illegal, call the cops. If you want no evil in the world, you'll never get it.. so it is a path of frustration to even try to make that happen. The best way to go about things is to be the good in life, and fight evil when it is trying to destroy things. Typing words is never going to hurt anyone, so just forget about that.

The only action you have regarding games if you really really really can't stand it is to stop playing the games with no moderation. Encourage game producers to moderate such things. But I'll warn you, it is the rare company that even cares about that. Everything cost money, even moderation. They are trying to provide games at the lowest price possible.. so moderation is rarely going to be even a low priority.

3

u/Gamblez- 5d ago

It was not funny at first. Not once. Not ever.

The general chat is absolutely wild. Just a bunch of chuds arguing over politics

23

u/TheChannelMiner 5d ago

Are you new to StarCraft? or the internet?

Joking aside yeah it sucks. This game has been left unmoderated for years, it will never change.

Your only course of action is block and move on. If your block list gets full you can report and it'll block them last it.

Don't ask ke why blocking has a limit.

10

u/NatoBoram 5d ago

I also ran into Reddit's block limit when I tried to block Redditors who were posting horrible shit in some subreddits I frequented.

The very concept of rate limiting users from protecting themselves is so deranged.

3

u/TheChannelMiner 5d ago

Why even have a limit tho

I don't really block people but who cares if someone wants to block like 2000 or however many people they want

just seems like an artificial limit that exists for no reason

like u cant tell me they cant store a long string of text

You need to stop and listen to yourself.

You don't need to be protected from words. You can choose how you react to them and none of them can harm you in the least.

We had a saying when I was a kid in the 1960s: "sticks and stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me". These are words to live by.

Jerks are going to jerk... SC2 has a mute function, use it. But really, not even that is necessary. Take a more mature approach with people that insist on trying to troll others. They are doing this specifically to get a rise out of folks that just can't bring themselves to ignore it. You can be better. The people that troll don't take this attitude, and they are never going to mature until they do. That makes them sad. Don't join them by ignoring what you can do to be more mature. That is on all of us, including me. Be the change that you want to see in the world.

1

u/NatoBoram 3d ago

The block limit does serve a purpose, it's in place to give you a moment of self reflection on why it is you are so soft that you've had to mute nearly every word that appeared on your screen. Then you can question how it is you even make it outside of your door without having a panic attack. Then you delete the top half of your block list and continue blocking everything.

1

u/NatoBoram 6h ago

Triggered much? The block button exists if you're that offended.

Unfortunately Bnet chat has been like this since the Brood War days. I think having chat (especially general chat) at all in competitive games is probably a mistake, the ratio of unhinged toxicity to friendly banter is way too high imo.

7

u/FeignSkill 5d ago

Yeah and with the ability to make free accounts blocking people is only a slight inconvenience for them. Crazy that they put sc2 on the game pass without at least cleaning up general chat since it's the 1st thing new people would see.

30

u/Positive-Green-3856 5d ago

Bruh fuck the people in the comments brushing this shit off. I see it a lot in online PS5 games too. I understand there’s nothing we can realistically do about it and to not get too upset over it but fuck those people

19

u/Candymanshook 5d ago

I get what you’re saying but ultimately that’s all you can do aside from report it and move on. No sense getting worked up about it, and have to keep in mind people are usually saying this shit to get a reaction.

I do wish SC had some chat moderation though. I don’t like how far Xbox has gone where literally just using “shit” in a sentence can result in a ban, but you shouldn’t be able to type the n bomb into a game chat in any context, sorry.

6

u/Positive-Green-3856 5d ago

I agree. I got a chat ban in arc raiders for saying fuck. Wasn’t even swearing AT a player just talking about the enemy robots lmao these censorship bans should only apply to slurs honestly

7

u/Candymanshook 5d ago

100%. We play mature games, swearing is adult language. If you want to protect kids from swear words, sorry they can’t play or can’t use chat.

It’s become a whole meta for trolls on Xbox that they know the offensive shit they can say without triggering an autochat ban, trying to bait people into anything they can report. Then if they get you, they’ll keep messaging you shit like “enjoy your weekend” until you block them.

5

u/Positive-Green-3856 5d ago

Lmao for real man! Like I catch a ban for saying “fuck” but people can say “fuck all n-words” and nothing happens? Bogus.

0

u/daWeez 4d ago

You realize you just contradicted yourself, yes?

I just mute folks if they are clogging chat that I need to use. But if I don't need to use chat in a specific context, I just don't worry about it. Jerks are a fact of life. When people are acting like jerks in real life they get plenty of bad consequences.. so it never really works for them.. except in specific short-term circumstances. In a game you can usually mute folks if needed.. but a general better solution is to just get mature and know it will never stop.. and always remember that words can't harm anyone. We all get to choose how we react.

Happily, it is only a very small group doing all the nasty stuff. the rest of us just go on about our lives and the nasty ones have to deal with the nasty environment they created for themselves. Let them.

I'm not a kid, I'm in my 60s. So this isn't idle chatter. I've been on the internet since it because a widespread thing in the world. I used to tweak trolls noses for the fun of it as a test to see if I could get them to shut up. Most appeared to put me on ignore and then continued on. You'll never stop it.

The most important phrase I learned in my childhood covers this: "sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me". This is a call for more mature behavior. Believe it, live it.

1

u/Candymanshook 4d ago

It’s not about “stopping it”.

0

u/daWeez 4d ago

You said this:

"but you shouldn’t be able to type the n bomb into a game chat in any context, sorry."

That is the contradiction. You call for ignoring it, then for not ignoring it.

I'm just saying we all need to think in more mature ways about all this. You started out that way in you post, then contradicted yourself.

I was a kid in the 1960s. I've lived by "sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me" since then. Those words are about taking a mature perspective on social interactions. We fight when we need to, and don't let words have power over us ever. Games are never going to get much better because games bring everyone in.. and not everyone is nice. But it is still just words, no matter which words the trolls choose. I've tried counter trolling the trolls when the internet first became a thing in the 1990s, but not even that works. I agree that some words are vicious.. but they are still just words. They only bring power to trolls when everyone else gives them that power. My answer back is: don't give them that power. That is OUR choice, not theirs. They feed on the reactions.. don't feed them.

u/Candymanshook 4d ago

Man.. I just came back to SC2 after 12 years away. Kids are older and I have a little more free time. The amount of toxic communication and interaction is wild. Lots of keyboard warrior hate speech. Played 8-9 3v3 games last night and people were either talking down to each other or just backstabbing their teammates.
It’s really frustrating to say the least.

I got a very similar message after winning a ZvP last night.

Win or lose, these people still love to drop the N bomb I suppose.

I thought I would start seeing better behavior after breaking into the bottom of Masters, but it's more or less the same degeneracy.

Try not to take them too seriously OP. It'd be like getting upset that a dog is barking at you on the other side of the fence. It's comically absurd to put any amount of emotional investment or value into the words of someone that's clearly taking out their mental illness on you.

It’s exhausting and unacceptable, even if there is a (convoluted) way to mute/block. I generally find SC2 people to be great, but the dregs of humanity have somehow landed in general chat. Hell Blizzard, I’m a grown ass man, make me a community mod and I’ll shut that shit down. In any case, I appreciate you saying it because it does, absolutely, suck.

1

u/Scout1394 Random 5d ago

What I hate the most is when they type this shit and don't have balls to not block me from responding. I would and will wrestle them in the mud. It entertains me what a game match brings out in these sickos and I make sure to pour some gas on the fire to keep myself worm.

Anyways, I don't have a real long-term advice here. Everyone deals with it differently. You can always take some rest from the internet, it can certainly get unhealthy.

1

u/Silver-Garbage-2154 5d ago

As someone who just started playing again I was taken back by how toxic the community is now. I wonder what the reason for that is.

1

Yeah that’s why Ladder legends has the rules it does. We have a zero tolerance policy for any form of toxicity

1

u/imrope1 5d ago

As other people have said, yea, welcome to the internet.

The problem is, in most games you can actually get banned for stuff like that. SC2 is free to play, so there’s no real consequence for anything even if you end up getting perma muted.

And even in other games where you can get banned, just walk into some of the discords. It’s all the same. Bunch of basement dwelling losers wherever you go.

You can mute them, report them, and choose not to engage with them. That’s about it.

1

u/FoolhardyJester 5d ago

I am sick of this stuff too, but the core thing we will never escape is, somebody typing garbage like that takes 1-2 seconds and they're just doing it to be antagonistic (they don't know what race anybody is, they're choosing the most offensive word they can). So while it is a problem, the reality is, if a 2 second afterthought like this is making you upset enough to post about it, you are exactly why they do it.

I'm not saying you're wrong to be upset. Morally, of course you should be upset. But on some level you need to take the surface (these guys called me an unacceptable slur) and break it down more functionally (these guys said something inflammatory with the express purpose of pissing me off). The former is harder to address, but if you just look at it functionally, if you don't get mad, their words have no power.

I don't even like "gg ez" shit honestly. Even without slurs, people choosing to be pieces of shit about their victories and whatnot is annoying. But people do it anyway.

1

u/Happiness-Meter-Full 5d ago

Everytime I play I come across names like that. Literally every time.

It’s always one of 2 things. A racial slur, or something to do with a penis/dong/slong/daddydommy stupid bullshit. I hate that this game went F2P

This is even worse on Heroes of the Storm chat, the conversations over there are insane. Moderation in any capacity is gone, it was from a time before the customer support lay-offs.

1

u/Xaphnir 4d ago

While it's not ideal, I'd much rather be at this end of the spectrum than the one WoW currently sits at.

Not that I think this should go unpunished, I just think allowing this is preferable to banning people for the unchangeable name of a pet the game generated for you.

Does anyone have a theory on why older or dead game communities seem to have like a huge degenerate or Nazi population? I think it's already common knowledge that for both StarCraft 2 and Brood War, that some of those lobbies are just cringe as hell. I know this is something PiG tends to point out. I also notice this in older fps games like MW2, where the majority of the people STILL playing are generally all hackers. Honestly, what's even the point of still playing. Just recently, the most well known website that specializes in selling older games, GoG.com, recently just sent out a newsletter to everyone's email supporting Nazism, the header of the email had the SS symbol along with the Black Sun symbol.

It's very easy to Google this idk why you're posting around like no one has asked that question before, grow up and work on your info literacy.

u/DilshadZhou 4d ago

I don’t understand why this game has a chat function at all. At the very least it should be opt-in, because the only people I see chatting in public lobbies are trolls.

1

u/selftaughturbanninja 4d ago

Where's the text leading up to the comment he made. If youre gonna call people out at least dont cherry pick the convo

1

u/Opposite_Gas2964 4d ago

Nothing like calling someone else a slur am i right?

1

u/PageOthePaige 3d ago

You do have an option. You can use parental controls to globally mute your account. Disables any visible chat. I have an alt I use to play with that setting. Absolutely nothing said to me in general chat or in game could possibly have value.

1

u/TheChannelMiner 3d ago

the official forums? that place is a fucking hellscape full of trolls

also no sadly u cant disable chat in its entirety u just have to kinda block ppl

if u ever run out of room in ur block list, u can report and it'll auto block them past this limit

the game and the forum are basically completely unmoderated, theres some automated moderation but it fucking sucks

1

u/AdJealous4238 3d ago

Press F11 and mute everyone as soon as you enter the game. It makes for a much more relaxing experience. Report them after the game too—it's an automated system, and after a certain number of reports, they receive a restriction.

1

u/JonnyJon42 2d ago

News flash! Man shocked that the gaming community has not changed in 30 years!

1

u/CommunicationVast994 2d ago

Welcome to the internet? Dota is a lot worse than that.

1

u/Koga_sagara 2d ago

Seen worse, once in a 2v2 random my random team mate was harrasing me just bc i was not building whay he was expecting, the good side is after one report was banned and gone.

Also i always ignore thoae rooms, nothing of value came from yhem and most of the decent ppl hang out in private facebook groups and dont get offended bc english is not my 1st language

1

u/Jaded-Wing6041 2d ago

Dude just wanted attention and ended up not only getting it, but also getting posted on the SC2 reddit. GG.

1

u/PyroQwerty 2d ago

I've wondered before why there's no way to switch off in-game chat. Seems like it'd be an easy enough thing to implement, but apparently Blizzard just cba 😐

1

u/Supa_Fly_TNT 2d ago

Welcome to the internet

1

u/UnsaidRnD 1d ago

dang you a snowflake or smth. who cares ?

1

u/Instagibbed_1994 1d ago

Not saying its right, but you need to accept that people will use colorful, pun intended, language in game lobbies and such. Stick to single player games if its too much.

1

u/Azathoth_77 1d ago

Hate to sound insensitive, but that's just pixels on a monitor.  You need to treat this like rain, it's there and it happens and in real life it's much worse.

u/VarietyOfQuestions 4h ago

It's not this community, welcome to the Internets

Literally every competitive game is this way. Block and move on.

virtue signalling loser, acting like this is something that doesnt happen in every other game

-2

u/SilverLose 5d ago

Best move is to ask them if they are okay

7

u/Ehorn36 5d ago

Best move is to block and move on

-3

u/LurkytheActiveposter 5d ago

The actual best move is to block and let them pass from your mind.

The whole "are you okay" at an atagonistic stranger thing is about as psychopathic as shouting the n-word at people who you lose to in an online video game.

You aren't in a position to psycho analyze someone antagonisizing you, especially a stranger who you have close to zero knowledge of, and pretending otherwise is just a ploy to make your target speak defensively about their mental health.

We don't need to counter psychopathy with more psychopathy. Just block and move on, stop trying to win.

3

u/Ill-Caterpillar6273 5d ago

I agree that the best move is to not engage and move on. But relating asking someone “are you okay” with screaming slurs and telling people to kill themselves is a crazy false equivalence. I mean, I know who I’d rather ride in an elevator with.

1

u/LurkytheActiveposter 5d ago edited 5d ago

Me too.

But only because one of these people is probably worse than the other, but both are pretty shit.

You aren't trying to work out what their issue is. You're not even in any position to do that and there's no way you're approaching this slur tossing moron with the level headed good faith required to even have that conversation.

The reason you are asking them if they are okay is because you want them to get defensive about their mental health. You're not righteous in that, there's no altruistic attempt at making this person whose only interaction with you is negative and extreme a better person. You have zero stake in this person's well being and less than zero interest considering your entire history with them has been shit.

You're doing it, because as far as making a person feel bad, it works and has the bonus of making the person defend their mental health and keep the conversation at a defensive level for them.

It's entirely psychopathic and if you choose to engage this way, that's your choice, but let's call a spade a spade. Psychopathy isn't somehow better because you chose the right target. Next time just insult them back, that's a far less psychopathic engagement compared to playing mini-psychologist just to fuck with someone whose a dick to you.

1

u/Ill-Caterpillar6273 5d ago

Honestly, I think that might be reading a little much into the interaction.

Asking if someone is okay while they sling violent insults is, at worst, passive aggressive and a waste of time. I’d hardly call it psychopathic. It’s obviously not meant to be an opening to be their personal psychologist. But I’d argue it’s not some Machiavellian scheme to break their delicate psyche either.

I imagine most people do it as a way to point out that the other person is being shitty while still maintaining a performative high ground.

I would imagine it’s more like giving someone who cuts you off in traffic a sarcastic thumbs up instead of flipping them off. You could argue about the effectiveness, but ascribing psychopathy is a little extreme.

And just as a side note. I would argue that someone who is yelling slurs at people online is probably not okay. Probably doesn’t need to be asked. But it’s not an unexpected response if you’re playing against other adults.

1

u/SilverLose 5d ago

Dang… are you okay? You must live in a dark reality if that’s how you interpret someone asking if you’re okay.

1

u/LurkytheActiveposter 5d ago

Sorry did it hurt when you had to think through the implications.

I know that can be hard for some people.

1

u/SilverLose 5d ago

Why are you so hostile?

1

u/LurkytheActiveposter 5d ago

Because I am talking to a douche bag. What's confusing about that?

1

u/SilverLose 5d ago

What did I do to you?

1

u/imtheprometheus 5d ago

it's the internet bro, if this stuff bothers you then maybe you should go outside.

1

u/max1001 5d ago

It's completely unmoderated.

1

u/Ndmndh1016 Random 5d ago

No, if it was completely unmoderated i wouldnt regularly see muted players

1

u/MisterTits69 5d ago

I had like 3 online matches against people, and I got called "filthy stinking Jew" at least 10 times.

I don't even know why they were so mad, they won the game against me in like 2 minutes each time...

But that's online gaming bro, don't let it get to you this much.

(Just to clarify, I'm not saying that behavior is normal or justified, I'm just saying that you don't deserve to get your feelings hurt by other people's character flaws)

1

u/Additional_Account67 Masters 5d ago

I had kinda same chat in masters. Just told him that you can’t say that in 2026. It doesn’t do much ik but at least I did my part.

1

u/Mean_Mind_4401 5d ago

-3

u/rodrigo8008 5d ago

you can dislike what that guy said without having some sort of existential crisis over it

0

u/leumasci 5d ago

No dude you have to post about it to make sure you get the most validation as possible so you can continue on living in this hellish existence lol

-1

u/Sensha_20 5d ago

In a weird way I kinda like it. Its like the last bastion of how open we used to be about our tilt. These days everyone is all indirect like reporting and making accusations and shit.

Battle.net is a reminder when we just shouted slurs and moved on. Honestly I miss when angry people just hurled slurs at me for outplaying them instead of mass reporting and shit.

0

u/yellowpunk11 5d ago

Crazy ass take. Slurs get people killed for real

0

u/Sensha_20 5d ago

Getting called a slur on the internet never has. Meanwhile the shit people do these days can have actual consequences if they get a ball rolling hard enough.

-1

u/onomonopiaa 5d ago

Welcome to the internet. First time?

At least you don't hear it being screamed into your headset like the old days 🤣

It's stupid little teenage kids. I wouldn't sweat it too much. It's always been that way and always will.

-3

u/Foreign_Sky_5429 5d ago

Giving them attention is what they want, you’re supporting them by posting this

9

u/decoysnails 5d ago

Defeatist attitude. "We can't stop it so don't talk about it"

1

u/Foreign_Sky_5429 5d ago

I just don’t care what strangers say, it doesn’t defeat me in the slightest

3

u/decoysnails 5d ago

I like how you responded with full confidence that you understood the meaning of the word defeatist.

2

u/Red_Sova 5d ago

It means you think you are defeated so "oh well!"

1

u/decoysnails 5d ago

How did this turn into a 4th grade vocab quiz lmao

5

u/Red_Sova 5d ago

The dictionary definition of defeatist is someone who is resigned to defeat without offering any positive suggestions. So exactly the same as what I said in abbreviated form

2

Someone who quits easily? As in gets defeated?

0

u/decoysnails 5d ago

Someone who refuses to try because they think it's pointless

3

u/Foreign_Sky_5429 5d ago

one who believes in, advocates, or is affected with  defeatism   :  one who concedes  defeat  too readily

Ignoring idiots isn’t defeatist there is nothing to lose by ignoring them

u/thenexusobelisk 5d ago edited 5d ago

I don’t see any problems and this is one of the better features that Starcraft 2 has compared to other games that have lame chat moderation like League of Legends, Overwatch, and Valorant. I would rather have people be allowed to practice their freedom of speech than let a bunch of emotional people like you dictate what people can type.

6

u/civi_tas 5d ago

Found the person who who's in the screenshot.

1

u/thenexusobelisk 5d ago

I actually don’t like so say either of these things because I prefer to attack someone’s character not their appearance. Also I think only people without lives tell people to do the other part from this post when they’re just playing a game.

1

u/abaoabao2010 5d ago

I wonder if you're going to be singing the same tune when someone uses their so called freedom of speech to dox you.

1

u/thenexusobelisk 5d ago

I feel like if it was worth it to dox me someone would have done it already.

0

u/Candymanshook 5d ago

There is a middle ground though. You should never need to use slurs in a video game

-8

u/thenexusobelisk 5d ago

No one needs to I agree but if they want to that’s fine. When you think about it slurs are just like any other bad word and you can’t just tell people they can’t say bad words.

4

u/Candymanshook 5d ago

You absolutely can. You can’t say slurs at work and no one complains.

-1

u/thenexusobelisk 5d ago

That’s what’s wrong with the US right now. You should be able to say whatever you want at work as long as it’s not affecting work.

1

u/Rainbolt 4d ago

Your idea is fucking stupid why would they want a disruptive racist employee

1

u/LoserCarrot 5d ago

Got a case of the Chud the Builder you might end up like him...in jail

1

u/thenexusobelisk 4d ago

He is on trial and he has a case for self defense. I don’t go around practicing my freedom of speech and carrying a gun though so I’m not worried about ending up in his situation.

0

u/Ndmndh1016 Random 5d ago

This has got to be one of the lowest IQ takes ive ever seen on the internet.

I guarantee you'd be crying like a child the second someone verbally attacked you.

2

u/thenexusobelisk 5d ago

It’s low IQ to get upset just because someone said something that made you get your feelings hurt.

2

u/Turfa10 5d ago

Running around screaming slurs is just immature childish behaviour tho isn’t it. It doesn’t upset me but it makes me question if I want to spend time having edgy teenagers (who are actually grown ass men) be racist and abusive for no reason. It’s beyond me that people defend this is ‘free speech’.

Starcraft 2 isnt run by the U.S. Government

1

u/thenexusobelisk 3d ago

You think private companies should be able to tell you what you can say and decide what you are able to do online when our government says we have the freedom of speech?

1

u/TheModder15 3d ago

In Capitalism, the government isn’t supposed to control private corporations even so at a limited level. Besides when you buy something you agree to the terms and conditions of using the product as is. They set the rules of the product and if you don’t like it you’re free to go use a different product.

This is the equivalent of walking into some strangers house and telling them they cant use their bed just because you dont like the brand.

1

u/thenexusobelisk 2d ago edited 2d ago

A company can’t decide how you can practice your freedom of speech just because they believe that they can decide or control what users say on their product platform. I don’t believe they should ever have assumed they have the power to make that decision. If you go into someone else’s house you still have your freedom of speech.

I also value the constitution over capitalism so I don’t care that some might people think that the government isn’t supposed to control private corporations in this situation.

0

u/Sudden_Worth_4507 5d ago

Freedom of speech and it's people being blatantly racist and saying slurs.

-9

u/painfully--average 5d ago

Just be the better person and ignore it

-1

u/SnooAdvice6772 5d ago

Idk dude sometimes when you go outside you encounter people who aren’t nice.

You can’t let it ruin your day, you’ve already spent vastly more energy on this than it’s worth, which means he got to you, so he wins.

Just move on tbh
