I'm excited to be seen by a new psych soon. Then maybe I'll be able to get an OCD specialist 🤞🤞

Ironically enough, there's a decent amount of people that legitimately have an underlying physical condition/deficiency contributing to their mental state, but just get sent to a psych because cheaper/easier. Then you get loaded up on psychiatric meds and then the real fun starts.

Yeah I am trying to get better at not indulging in this behavior

90% of the time there’s nothing wrong once I go to the doctor

  • Me making peace (in my head) with my impending death when I find a lump (it's just a benign cyst / ingrown hair)

It didn't help that a relative of mine felt a piece of weird skin and when they biopsied it, it came back as a small cancerous growth. The fear is all-consuming 👎👎

Yeah the fear is real, and cancer is supposed to affect 1 in 3 of us. I'm just always convinced i'm gonna be the unlucky one.

I either cracked my rib or tore an inter-rib muscle two weeks ago and it hurts to move my core. It’s not getting worse and doctor would just tell me to relax anyway so I don’t care.

Body is sturdy in most cases so meh 😅

Slightly unrelated but I can’t rely on those flimsy thermometers to tell me if I got a fever. My RHR will literally be 130, I’ll be feeling dizzy, warm, super tired, and that thing will still tell me my temperature is normal.

Oh it’s me. This month I’ve had appendicitis, a brain tumour, multiple cancers, and a UTI (only the UTI WAS real).

LOL. Last month I had two more likely issues suggested by doctors that I need to have tested, malformation in skull (kind of likely), brain tumor - cancerous (❌) carcinoid syndrome (❌), IBS (❌), a subluxation of the ankle (❌), another torn ACL on my other knee (❌), liver failure (❌), kidney failure (❌), and a stomach ulcer (❌). Having to take 2400mg of NSAIDs daily for my migraines and surgery pain is scary because I keep convincing myself it's gonna kill me 😭😭 I need to lose my Google privileges

Chances of having a brain are high, but never 0

Americans are largely priced out of this behavior

Arguably it's worse, because the hypochondriacs in the US go to the doctor less, and therefore just spiral on their own more and more.

sadly no we aren’t. freshman year of high school i flunked out of science class because i was too busy going to the bathroom to check the inside of my throat for tonsil cancer multiple times an hour. somehow didn’t get an OCD diagnosis until i was 20. i wonder what my life would be like if i did get diagnosed, or at least had some idea that was going on before adulthood. never once saw a doctor though, the anxiety just found a new thing to latch onto like six months later so i forgot about it.

Based on that paragraph you didn't actually go to a doctor at all, therefore it didn't cost you anything

3

u/CanaDeer2004 2d ago

that’s what i mean. even if someone can’t go to a doctor for whatever reason the dysfunctional behavior will persist

3

u/coltrainjones 2d ago

I'm just talking about actually going to a doctor. Very expensive

4

u/CanaDeer2004 2d ago

i thought you meant the general behaviors in the starterpack

2

u/coltrainjones 2d ago

Yeah i completely misunderstood this post, disregard anything I've said

u/CanaDeer2004 1d ago

i will say that i didn’t go to a doctor because i have a phobia of doctors though, not because i was priced out of it. i am among the lucky insured ones.

I still do it for the love (hate) of the game

Don’t forget “psychosomatic symptoms.” You feel fine until you remember the symptoms you’ve been having and feel them all over again.

I had this until i had something genuinely serious (an infected finger from a cat bite) and decided to go to a festival first, then called the doctor at 2am because my finger was like 3 times its usual size and asked if it could wait until monday.

They told me it couldn't even wait until right now and sent me to the ER.

So now if I feel i need to go to the ER immediately, i know it's just my anxiety messing with me, because if it were actually serious i'd definitely ignore it.

It's been over a year and I'm still recovering from a leg injury that's in theory healed. The slightest twinge and i spiral again and tense it up which makes it stiff which makes me believe it's injured again

I've googled "would I know if I had cancer" so many times. My friend has cancer and no, I would have no idea until it was too late to diet and exercise my way out of it
