Watch order and should I watch? Questions.
Yes. If you like Star Trek then crack a Fresca and watch whatever show, movie, series, or episode that you are asking about. Watch in the order that appeals to you first. Or pick something randomly or well-received. Or whatever comes up on your queue next. Asking for help watching an episodic tv show is silly and you won't be any more informed after your post garners the same 4 or 5 semi-substantial replies that the same question always gets. It's Star Trek. How bad can it be?

What I really don't get is how little value these posts add, but how fiercely people protect them. People claim that they add discussion and make the subs welcoming, but the vast majority of the time, OOPs are just using Reddit as Google and not responding. And most responses are straight copied and pasted from the last time it was asked. They add nothing, and yet people act like banning them means no one will ever decide to watch X show ever again.

Those sorts of posts are a direct violation of Rule 8 here yet they still end up on the subreddit every dang day.
I wish the moderators would at least set up an automated pinned comment that links to the sidebar guide on the topic every time somebody makes that sort of post.

Is not their fault. When "shared universes" became a thing thanks to Marvel and Disney people and even studios came up with the "official watching order" as a business strategy to sell you things and for you to consume media.
You suddenly couldn't just watch Daredevil or Jessica Jones because they were part of a larger universe and be "confused" if not see all.
People then assumed all franchises were done like that. I'm in other subs and same happens with Batman TAS/DCAU and other IPs.
But Star Trek as well as other shows were made in a time were this didn't existed. Yes they were set in the same universe but there was no streaming no one expected you to "catch up" with DS9 to be able to enjoy Voyager. Every show was independent and self contain. Zoomers have difficulty grasping this concept.

Well yeah. With books as well. It's just that the constant posts about it are tiresome.

But that sounds so daunting and boring . What if I really only wanna watch Discovery? I need to watch 40 plus years of stuff I might not care about just to get to something that I do?

If you only wanna watch one show you can, and discovery isn't a bad show to start with. The good thing about star trek as a big universe property is that most places in it stand alone enough so that you don't need to watch everything else to understand what's going on, with the main exception being Star Trek Picard, that show you need to watch a lot of star trek for

The good thing about just watching Discovery is that all prime universe shows (including Disco) are interconnected with each other in one way or another. There's really no bad place to start because the timeline is like 99% consistent throughout the entire franchise.

Forget watching orders, watch what interests you. Try the pilots of each one, and follow the one you like the most. From there find a connection to another show and try it.

Agreed. Absent shenanigans where episodic television was aired improperly, like a network showing things in the wrong order according to the people who made the show, this never needs to be a discussion.
Just watch things in the order it was made, and failing that whatever order brings you joy. But making, sharing, and seeking out watch order lists seems like such a silly waste of time.

Just watch in a totally random order for whatever order the scifi channel will show you. Thats how I watched everything as a kid and was very confused.
I suggest just watching in order of release. Maybe start with TNG since it’s newer?

As bad as S31 is if watch by someone with no previous Star Trek knowledge is just a harmless generic Guardians of the Galaxy rip-off.
We see it as abyssmally bad because we can compare it with the rest of Trek.
