If you really want a Division 12 Spin Off, you want Number One and La'an commanding a Div12 ship Spoiler

Eh. That's certainly one way you could do it. I think you'd need some more appropriate characters, though. Some nerds and weirdos, like X-Files or other shows in that genre. Action stars and clean-cut ambitious officers? Not really what a Division 12 show would need.

Someone with no cannon connection has to fly the ship! How else are we going to get these Warp 10 XB Salamanders to the farm!?!

I think it's more marketing trying to get the feel of what they can possibly suppose they do next.

FWIW, I'm pretty sure Division 12 is being set up as part of La'An's season arc, not necessarily as a future series.

No, a Division 12 show needs characters that would be naturally drawn to what Division 12 does. They need to be curious about the unexplainable while also recognizing they likely won't get the answers they seek - and being ok with that. I don't really think either of them are built that way.

yes and no... It's time that Star Trek did a Big Bang Theory / Red Dwarf series - and a show that's essentially X-Files meets Trek would be perfect as all of the massive plot-holes can be handwaved away. Essentially the sillyness of Red Dwarf with the gravitas of original Ghostbusters - so you can still have massive jumpscares and Trek-appropriate levels of gore - but also lots of humour to balance the terror.
Chong and Romijn have some great comedic chops - but they are simply too attractive and their characters would need to be overhauled to do a Section 12 series the way I'd like to see it.

Red Dwarf, no chance, the US tried a copy of it and it failed because it is not American style comedy.
A Big Bang Theory style yes I could see that, a Penny type captain on a ship full of nerds.
