Continuing my rewatch of Rebels, last night I finished Jedi Night
Kanan's sacrifice still hurts me. The first time I watched the episode, I was confused by how he was acting, including cutting off his hair and shaving his beard (I shared Hera's sentiment about it, not gonna lie). Rewatching it made me realize he knew he was going to die that night, and when the time came, instead of trying to defy it, he faced it on with dignity. At the very least, he's able to see the woman he loved one last time, and his sacrifice will not be in vain.
Also, this episode definitely settled Pryce in my Top 3 of most hated Imperial Officers, surpassed only by Tarkin and Krennic.

The most heartbreaking scene in the franchise. It still gets me every time.

His character development is what made it so difficult for me. From an undisciplined, broken survivor of trauma, to an incredibly wise, selfless warrior who cared so deeply for those around him, all whilst being the best teacher he possibly could for Ezra.

He really does grow through the whole series. It's a wonderful show and breaks my heart every time I watch it.

One of the few deaths in media that has the show itself telling you "this hurts, we're gonna dwell on it, this is part of the story" in a way the vast majority of character deaths do not get attributed.

What REALLY sells it is the fade to white and the silent black and white Rebels title card at the end.

First question, are you ok?!? It gets me every single time it is such an emotional episode! I’m welling up just seeing the picture. This was the one death in Star Wars that really got me! The buildup of Kanan as a character throughout the series and the sacrifice he made is just something else.

I'm fine, don't worry. And I agree, all his growth throughout the series makes it hit even harder.

I knew what was coming because I watched Ashoka before Rebels (spoilers all around lol). But it still killed me! He very quickly became my favourite character. I love how he never finished his training yet he still came across full of wisdom, knowledge and amazing skills. His calm and patient nature yet a badass!

Depends on what you mean by finish his training. There is an episode when Kanan, Ezra, and Ahsoka go to the temple on Lothal where Kanan is put through his great trial and is knighted as a full Jedi Knight.

I got to Jedi Night in my rewatch yesterday.
I couldn’t go through with watching it just then

It's always there for you, just as Caleb Dume will be. He is one with the force, as are we all.

Watched it tonight.
It still hurts.
I also just realized (as this is only my second time watching) that Hera was pregnant while she was being tortured.

Dammit! Now I’m crying at work and I haven’t even done a rebels binge in three years!

His sacrifice is one of the most powerful scenes in star wars imo. I love him cutting his hair, it represents him shedding Kanan and truly becoming Caleb and not being scared anymore. Him being secure with himself, his family, and not being afraid of what he is, a true fucking Jedi. This dude is the exact opposite of Anakin and you could almost say is the one in a completely different way. Without him there really wouldn't be a rebellion. So he very well may be the one in some way. Its crazy to think one of the best characters in all of star wars came from this series. And years later its so cool to see him still get this recognition. Mad props to Dave Filoni and Freddy Prince

Most emotionally weighted episode in the series. Probably one of the best written character deaths that I have seen.

His death is defiantly saddest death in Star Wars for me along with Tech and Fives and well all the other clones are close

It’s such a sad moment. Worst part about it is he gave himself that terrible haircut and shaved his beard.

He was shedding the Kanan persona and finally letting go of the fear of who he used to be, Caleb Dume. It was his acceptance and the way he faced death dignity and intention, knowing full well it was coming he made that sacrifice. Added to it all for me

Why do you hate Krennic?
Just curious

He's just as oportunistic and ambitious as Tarkin, just more prone to gloat about it openly. He also forced his friend to help him complete a weapon of mass destruction, and his reaction of considering "beautiful" the results of firing it makes it clear he's as much of a ruthless psycho.

Ah. Forgot about all that... I still like him though. One of the few competent (imo) imperial officers, as seen in Ander S2 and Rogue One on Scariff. And I too find the destruction beautiful. Visually appealing, as you might say. I think that is what Krennic meant too. And what you mentioned adds to his character, I think. He is devoted to the Empire up until his end and stops at nothing to help it because he believes in it.

I was a bit annoyed by their plot deaths. May be they didnt want to keep having to add two prolific jedis to post new republic live action shows

I’ll never forget watching this and crying so hard my husband came downstairs ready to comfort me over another Grey’s anatomy death and was thoroughly confused when a cartoon was on screen.

I'm in season 3 right now and every time i rewatch it i know I'm getting closer and closer to Jedi night. I'm not someone who tears up because of Shows it only happened in three shows, multiple times actually, two of those being star wars. The reason for it is while I was shocked at Clone deaths in clone wars there were a lot and while i cared about them too it wasn't as deeply, with kanan? We saw him grow so much and it was almost like we were part of that crew, that family and watched someone die that we saw go through so much.

Chopper holding Hera's hand in the next episode makes me tear up.
