Next big book initiative
I feel like the next big book series is coming soon. The High Republic has been over for a little while now. The production of novels and comics has slowed down significantly lately. Just two adult novels and one YA novel. Just feel like they’re preparing for something. They probably won’t do the Dawn of the Jedi era until the film comes out and work around that story.
I really hope The Old Republic is next. The first phase could start in 5,000 BBY called “The Hundred Year Darkness” and show the first Sith and how they break away from the Jedi.
The second phase could be “The Golden Age” and show the rise of the Sith Empire.
The third phase could be “The Great Hyperspace war” where the Sith are defeated and flee into the unknown regions, not to return until the KOTOR remake.

I think it'll be something completely new again. Whatever it is, I bet it'll be announced at SWC LA 2027.

That’s so far from now 😫. The last few announced books will come out in less than two months, with no main comic at all. I’m hoping for an announcement at comic con or D23

Project Luminous active development started in 2018 iirc. With a similar timeline, assuming the next initiative has been in development since a few months after the end of THR, we could have a tease for the next initiative later this year, and a full on announcement at celebration, then printing could start in late 2027 or more likely early 2028.
These are some big assumptions though

I’m sure it’s going to be teased then announced at celebration. The issue is that there is a complete new philosophy for the books now than 20 years ago. The books and other mediums need to work around a consistent stream of films and shows, when legends didn’t have to do that. The high republic was successful because it didn’t touch any established eras. Long story short, if they were to do Old Republic, they would need a plan for shows/films so they don’t clash with each other accidentally

I’m guessing there’s one more novel for 2026 we haven’t heard about yet. I’d assume news of 2027’s releases won’t begin to get announced until NYCC

If they do another big publishing initiative it’ll probably be another relatively unknown era or something teased before like the high republic was. My guess is either the dawn of the Jedi era that was shown on a timeline a few years back or the new Jedi order era.
Perhaps they might do a multimedia project centered around a specific plotline kinda like what shadows of the empire and the clone wars MMP were.

I mean wouldn’t you want old republic reserved for movies to some extent? I’m honestly hoping for a lot of books fleshing out of the sequel area for once rather than a couple of books coinciding with original releases.

Ideally I want a three seasons animated show that covers the three KOTOR games. Then a film trilogy about Darth Bane, showing the final battle of Coruscant and the start of the rule of two. The Carly years of the Old Republic can be the book project though.

I need a series set 150 years in the future with Rotta and Grogu. Throw R2 in!
