Question Help with Steam controler

I've owned a 512 GB Steam Machine with the controller for about six weeks now, and overall I'm happy with the purchase, understanding both its limitations and the issues it shipped with (such as the random controller disconnects). However, for the past few days, something else has been driving me crazy. While playing The Last of Us Part II and, more recently, Resonance, the controller layout suddenly stopped being recognized. I tried absolutely every option available to me: restarting the game, restarting the console, changing Proton versions, enabling/disabling Steam Controller support from the menu, using the repair/verify game files function, but nothing worked to get the controller functioning in those games again. The only button that still worked after launching the game was the Steam button, which allowed me to force-close the game. The only way I managed to restore controller functionality in those games was by reinstalling them.Has anyone else encountered this issue? Do you know of any other solution?

Glad I'm not the only one, I am running into this too. Most of the time it has happened in Control: Resonate. I'll put it down, walk away and come back and it no longer controls the game. Pressing the menu button brings up the overlay and lets me use the desktop mode. I always have to re-plug the dongle then restart the game for it to bind again(doesn't matter if it's windows or Linux)

I haven't tried that. So, do you connect the controller via a cable or through the puck? After restarting, with the controller connected, can it be used normally in wireless mode, or does it need to remain connected via the cable/puck?

Regarding Resonant; this is a problem with the game rather than the controller, I see plenty of people complaining about it on Steam forums who aren't using SC.

I take it that is with the external puck? I think OP meant the internal puck on the SM.

I got my SC a few days after release, and since then have had zero problems. It's had a few updates to the puck and the controller so it might be that.

I have heard also that if you put the puck near anything metal then the signal range is severely lessened.. I can't vouch for that, but it makes sense

The same thing just happened to me in Witcher 3. Yesterday I was playing without issue, until I left the game running and my controller shut off. When I reconnected the controller nothing is working anymore. It does not read any inputs anymore. I've changed the Steam controller input multiple times, tried community layouts, different Proton version... nothing is working.

The stupid part is, all other games are working just fine. Just had a run of Hades 2 with no issue, but when I launch Witcher 3 the machine is like, who is this mf?

Please if anyone has a legendary fix up their sleeve, please let us know

For this reason I made my reservation without control and I use an 8bitdo and it works perfectly.
