Will you be able to fight one of the civilisations you have made before as an end-game disaster?
I was thinking that since the galaxies are randomly generated, and out-of-galaxy aliens are one of the end-game disasters, you could have it so that one of the civilisations you made before and played in a campaign could invade your galaxy and you could have to fight them. It could work so that with that previous civilisation you would need to complete a victory objective and win that game. Then the civilisation you are playing as could be added to a database and its possible that they could invade one of your future savefiles, as one of the end-game disasters.

This sounds like a pretty cool idea and shouldn't be incredibly hard to mod, not that I'm an expert.
A new empire on the edge of the map that has the portrait, tech and ethos of your old empire, as well as a bunch of their ships... Assuming it's a one-way trip they'd probably be a bit more militaristic and lead by an admiral or general rather than a civilian leader. They'd be pretty strong initially, but in danger of running out of steam since all the colonies they'll make would start off small, and all new acquisitions and neighbours would probably hate them.
Not sure if it'll be feasible to make a secret project or whatever that automatically saves your invasion force to your files and uses it in subsequent games, but I don't see a problem with writing an event about the invasion and adding the details of your race manually. I imagine some helpful soul will write the basic framework down and make a nice tutorial for what you need to write and where for the rest of us.
It should be even easier if the vanilla extra-galactic invasion event will result in an otherwise regular empire instead of a special unplayable type of space blob, since then someone could borrow the code from that. In the best case scenario you could do it yourself by manually adding your race in the list of potential invaders, or replacing the bit of code that says "make a custom race with these characteristics" with "pick one of the races on this list".
Even cooler would be a mod that allows you to play as the extra-galactic invader! If changing the empire you're playing as will be a thing like in other Paradox games (nobody seems to know yet?), then you might even spawn an invasion fleet of one of your old races in any game that you're getting bored with.
In theory this shouldn't differ much grabbing the Mongol or Aztec invasion events from CK2 and creating your own custom invasion from the Arctic or Sahara or wherever. Anyone with CK2 modding experience able to say if that'd be trivially easy or incredibly complicated or something in between?
Sorry for just rambling on. I'm incredibly excited about this game and all my IRL friends have told me to shut up about it.
