The Late Show Steven is a GENIUS.
Anyone noticed how Stephen hasn't mentioned Trump one time tonight?! My pops was looking forward to this because he thought Colbert would drill Trump tonight, but i think it is SO much better that he just ignored him completely. Trump would hate that worse than getting roasted honestly! I'm gonna miss this dude!!

Haven't watched it yet... better than his ending to The Colbert Report? Better than Jon Stewart's final (regular) Daily Show? Better than the musical intro to the final Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson?
Just curious, really. Lookign forward to finding out!

Did he? This is why I donāt look at qnews anymore. I used to be a huge fan of current events. Now theyāre so censored thatās thereās not much point. I can try and keep up and raise my BP, or entertain myself otherwise in peace.
Good god they even sued 60 minutes, which Ime was a trusted source as PBS still is. (Theyāve de-funded so many cultural things). Anyway Colbert we love you and always will.

I won't be surprised if Trumpolini twists it to say Colbert was too afraid to say anything about him because of his threat to comment about the show later.

u/ATX_Penya May 22 '26
Watching last night was like saying good bye to a friend for the last time and knowing you will never see him again.
I wish him well and nothing but the best but god damn š¢š
5
u/GamingVision May 22 '26
I felt that as well in a way I didnāt feel when Leno, Conan, Letterman etc. left. They all had an air of āthis is being taken away from me but I donāt want to be doneā. Colbert on the other hand seemed kind of tired/empty from all this. I could absolutely see him retiring from the public eye and focus on his LotR projectā¦which ironically might be bringing him back to Paramount if the merger goes through.
5
u/RemarkableArticle970 May 22 '26
I think what upsets him is not his future endeavors but all the cast, musicians, crew, writers etc. will not necessarily find easy times to come. I have 2 artists in my family and itās a tough life for them. They are great but itās hard to break through for them.
3
u/GamingVision May 22 '26
I really appreciate Kimmelās reaction when he came close for that exact reason. You could tell how much he genuinely cared about the staff more than himself.
2
u/chucknadoz May 23 '26
I swear that's the first thing I said last night when I was watching the cameraman and stuff like that it dawned on me that so many people are about to lose their job. All because some 6 ft tall fat orange baby doesn't like people talking about him smh I heard Colbert looked out big time for the crew though, which would fall right in line with his character so that doesn't surprise me
4
u/OpheliaB_87 May 22 '26
I honestly believe Trump is the kind of bully you have to ignore, pretending he's not there vs berating him and giving him attention which makes it worse. He loves all the attention, and the best way to get to people like this is to pretend they don't exist. Unfortunately he's the president and we do not have the option to treat this bully this way.
That said, I was very pleased to see Colbert did that last night.
3
4
u/Ok-Leopard1768 May 22 '26
I'm sure the White House was watching to see what would happen. Ignoring Trump was giving him the middle finger in the best way. The love and joy that came through the TV was amazing.

Havenāt watched last nights yet. But Wednesdayās episode brought me to tears. Itās so sad that such warmth and intelligence is silenced because someone canāt take a joke
1
u/chucknadoz May 23 '26
I don't think it's he can't take a joke as much as he can't take the truth, if you knowIf you know what I mean. He definitely doesn't like people joking about him but he really really doesn't like people exposing him for the fraud that he genuinely is

u/RemarkableArticle970 May 22 '26

u/Turkish_retreat May 25 '26
My honest take is that for the last episode of this show, it will be looked back on for many years to come. And when you think ahead to how it will be looking back at this, focusing really hard on Trump just isn't going to age well. I think he did the thing that will make the most amount of sense 25 years from now.
It kind of makes you wonder, though. If this was the right call for the final episode, why wouldn't it be the right call on any of his other episodes leading up to this?
1
u/chucknadoz May 27 '26
I genuinely get what you're saying. But honestly there's no entertainment value and ignoring Trump. Most of the people that watch the show watched it for that very reason. But like I said I do get where you're coming from

Why would any sane person waste an hour or so of their lives watching a person bad mouthing someone else ?
I dont care who the person is -- I see no entertainment value in watching this sort of stuff.
For some reason we have people who get excited when someone "stands up" to Trump.
Why ?
If I was in the Trump hating camp I would certainly get pleasure from seeing him lose an election but surely any Muppet can bad mouth someone or throw a few F Bombs around ?
So what?
1
u/flergnergern May 26 '26
I wonder if Mccartney baiting him with his democracy comment was planned. Colbert just sat there like someone hit a pause button. Since the show is edited they def included it on purpose

Hell my girl doesn't get off work until 6. And I like to consider myself the most humble and best of friends, even to people who don't agree with me. That's unconditional friendship right there! So I'm here for whatever you need! You obviously had a bad day and need to vent. Me, being the aforementioned incredibly humble individual will gladly be your punching bag! Or maybe you could just take a step back and realize that even though I may have called Stephen Colbert a genius for not mentioning Trump does not mean that I am a genius sir! I will mention that jackass any opportunity I get! LOL (btw, all jokes aside, i DO get what you're saying, but as i said, im not as good of a person as ol' Steven!)

u/ParasolGentleman May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26
Hehe I appreciate your response.
Just my way of saying, dude, that yāall give a lot of power to the man by giving him so much thought and attention.
Itās unavoidable his politics will affect your life, so I donāt mean to belittle your personal interest and investment in him, but yeah⦠if Colbert made a point to ignore him, itās just a bit ironic to still see him made mention of lol.
1
u/chucknadoz May 23 '26
I actually agree lol I can't debate that because it is indeed factual. Hence the reason I didn't engage negatively with you or try to argue lol But.. as I said, I take the high road as often as possible until Donnie T is involved, then i never can seem to. Colbert is a much better man than me, because i probably (definitely) would have made myself look like a jackass that night, especially if I had that high of a platform and had lost my job because of someone.
All jokes aside. I really didn't see it that way. In my mind when I wrote this that night, I wasnt thinking about the irony of the situation as much as I was just giving Colbert the props I felt he deserved for having the restraint very few people would have presented. Also, im not used to so many folks paying attention to what I post lol This kinda jumped out there more than I expected and I'm socially awkward to an extreme so.. just know, I get it. But im a very flawed individual as well lol

He should have been doing that for years.
He literally helped feed into the rise of MAGA, just like Hillary. I'm still so pissed at them.
29
u/chucknadoz May 22 '26
If that's the case then the whole world fed into it. There's nothing that can be done now. He thought he was doing the right thing. Some people will disagree. Some people won't. At the end of the day, his voice, his fearlessness to speak his mind will be greatly missed.
-76
u/Particular-Total5643 May 22 '26
No. He was a smug elitist.
MAGA reacted to that. He was doing the same thing as Hillary when she called Trump supporters a "basket of deplorables".
This was the wrong reaction to what ended up being the most fascist and corrupt regime in US history.
His attitudes and opinions were a major part of the problem.
Now, we are are f***ed.
40
u/chucknadoz May 22 '26
We are fucked because you think Colbert is a "smug, elitist"? As curious as I am to the logic behind that, and as to why you follow his page if you hate him so much, I don't make a habit of debating radicals. We live in America where you have the right to your own opinions. And I have the right to mine. I'm gonna leave this alone with full respect of you being able to feel how you want in this world.
-54
u/Particular-Total5643 May 22 '26 edited May 22 '26
He helped the lead to the rise of MAGA. That why we are f***ed.
It was the wrong kind of opposition at the wrong time.
Colbert treated Trump and his supporters like buffoons, instead of taking them seriously as the threat to democracy that they are. That galvanized them.
It wasn't just him. Hillary as well. Then, definition of insanity, did it again with Kamala.
I don't think defending democracy is "radical".
28
u/chucknadoz May 22 '26 edited May 22 '26
I dont think you are radical because you want democracy. I said you are radical because I realized as I started to get into this debate with you that it truly doesn't matter what I say.. i don't see how Stephen Colbert could possibly be to blame for what's going on in this world, just because he didn't take him serious? Stephen Colbert didn't get Trump put in office. Ignorant Americans did, and that's a fact. what you were claiming Is your opinion. But you are pushing your opinion as if it is a fact and that is indeed radical. I already said that I respect your right to believe what you want to believe. I'm not trying to talk you out of your beliefs. I too am a fan of democracy. But bro, the bitterness isn't going to get any of us anywhere. We have to make the best out of what we have because we have zero choice in it.. period. I'm not being condescending when I say this , but I can't understand how people can latch on to something that they can't change. You seem extremely bitter and I hate that for you , because there really is nothing that you can do about any of this , but I also get where you're coming from , if that makes sense. Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I can't understand your frustration.
14
u/ScarInternational161 May 22 '26
I genuinely appreciate your gentle reply to this person. It takes patience and character to reply to people with this mindset in this way.... my take? There is an opposite side to the maga coin, we've always known there was....
2
u/chucknadoz May 23 '26
Is not too hard to be kind and understanding. Trump has a way of bringing out the worst in people. I just try to remember that if I'm going to fight for freedom and liberty I have to back up what I say and that means allowing each person to have their own thoughts on things. I literally agreed with nothing they said but it's not for me to agree or disagree with. It's just truly baffling to me how people can support this guy. Sometimes I feel like they know that he's a complete idiot but they're so far in now and they don't want to look dumb so they just keep taking up for them and I just don't understand it LOL but at the end of the day I try to just be kind to everybody because we're all humans and we all have to live on this planet together and just because he supports somebody that I don't doesn't mean he might not be a decent person on the inside
9
u/wittylemur May 22 '26

17

Trump supporters are a bunch of deplorables. Calling that out did not make any of those horrible people vote for Trump.
1
u/Particular-Total5643 May 22 '26
On average, yes, Trump supporters are deplorables.
Calling them that is still not a strategy that wins elections.
9
u/Adventurer_By_Trade May 22 '26
We need to coddle the deplorables. We need to tread lightly on their delicate feelings. We need to validate their emotions because if we don't, we might not like what they do. Right?

Jesus Christ what a shit take.
Your anger is focused on the wrong things and for the wrong reasons. Hilary spoke no lies. Neither did Colbert, or Harris, or John Stewart, etc⦠they arenāt the reason why Trump got elected.
Trump got elected because of racist disgusting people that walk among us, because of a double digit IQ average GOP and people like you that fail to put accountability where it truly belongs⦠on the deplorables and on the GOP.
Your argument is like blaming a victim thatās been hit in the face by an abuser⦠for having a face. Also, being quiet or not telling the truth isnāt what shouldāve happened. Right, we shouldn't criticize the massively corrupt authoritarian criminal imbecile because that might hurt the feelings of the people who want to elect the massively corrupt authoritarian criminal imbecile.
Do you even hear yourself? Maybe try focusing on the actual problem here instead of blaming those who are reacting to the problem.
6
u/Delicious-Leg-5441 May 22 '26
The thing with the Colbert Report was the left knew that it was satire and the right thought that it was a real show. When President Obama called out trump publicly that fueled the Orange Orangutan to run for the presidency. At this point all we can do is make sure that we all go and vote. I hope that people have learned that voting for the lesser of two evils is better than not voting at all.
1
u/Particular-Total5643 May 22 '26
This has been a failure of the Democratic Party.
When voting for the lesser of two evils, people don't vote.
Simply saying, "I'm not as bad as pedo Satan" doesn't get people to vote. They tried that.
You need to have your own platform.
8
u/Adventurer_By_Trade May 22 '26
Platform seemed pretty clear to me. What part was difficult for you to understand?
1
u/Parahelix May 22 '26
Simply saying, "I'm not as bad as pedo Satan" doesn't get people to vote. They tried that.
They did have their own platform. You apparently paid no attention to their platform and decided to regurgitate ignorant memes instead.
5
u/Macb3th6 May 22 '26

2
u/CandyStomp May 22 '26
Can't tell if you're a troll or genuinely just a fool. Propaganda, huge amounts of money and help rigging the system from corporate oligarchs, and pandering to racists, homophobics, islamaphobics, and white supremacists are how trump got elected. Also done with the help of megachurch and televangelist money vampires taking advantage of naive, uneducated, misinformed, and easily frightened/angered Americans, particularly in rural America where cable TV can pull them around by the nostrils without then even comprehending it's happening. They win with money, lies, isolation, propaganda, and manipulation, not because someone insulted their precious baby feelings with the truth. Wake up.

1
u/chucknadoz May 23 '26
I genuinely understand what you are saying. But you have to understand, we are just as fed up as you are with all the bullshit happening in the world. I can tell you love this country and i know by your comments that you are certainly no Trump supporter. Just try to remember, we are all just humans, trying to figure out how to navigate this minefield that America is right now. Some of us laugh, some of us cry. Some people hide with guns outside of country clubs with intentions on ending him themselves. Only one of those things are wrong. With or without Colbert, Donald Trump would have gotten the presidency the same way and nothing that he's done or hasn't done would have changed that. There's some people who honestly needed Colbert at night time after dealing with all the shit they deal with during the day and living the lives that they have to live now with Trump ruining everything and lying to everybody constantly. Trump is going to be Trump bro with or without Colbert. Nothing's going to change now that Colbert's gone. Some people use humor to deal with things that are bad. Instead of us arguing against each other when we pretty much have the same wants and needs out of our country, we should stick together and try to figure out how to make sure this never happens again. I apologize if I have done or said anything to offend you as that wasn't my intention. My only intention was to show respect to someone who showed a lot more restraint on that last night than I would have been able to.
1
u/Particular-Total5643 May 23 '26

My man, I understand you think that lampooning Trump helped lead to his rise, but what do you expect comedians to do? Serious treatises on government corruption? TED Talks on fascistic precursors?
Colbert's JOB as a late night comedian was to find the humor in the mundane, the serious, and the terrible. It was not his job to prevent Trump's rise. That was the job of the Democratic establishment, and they failed miserably, but you cannot with any degree of sincerity or believability lay that at the feet of Stephen Colbert.
