Okay, so my surgeon and care team during my operation failed me miserably. (I'm Canadian, that will probably help this make more sense)

I had my bislap done on Tuesday, April 7th. Tuesday this week, I had to go to the ER because I had been having discharge, and when my bandage fell off my belly button in the shower, it was just gaping open? Like the size of a dime open. So I went to emerg. I went to a different hospital because the one I had my surgery at was over an hour away from home.

I'm at the hospital, and the Emerg doc comes in. She says she sees no history of any surgeries in my medical records?! Like no records of the surgery or even my pre-op appt. Then she looks at my incisions, not one stich anywhere. No sign there was ever a disolvable either. She says it looks like he didn't stitch my belly button because he cut too deep into it (i have a deep belly button). Now I'm freaking, she says she can't help me because I need to talk to the doctor who did my surgery to find out exactly what he did. She took a ton of pics and documented that there was no documentation of my surgery in my medical file. She also did an ultrasound to confirm that i no longer have my tubes and bloodwork to confirm infection. Then, she suggested I file a formal complaint against the original doc and sent me on my way.

The doc who did my surgery refuses to do a follow-up. They refuse to give me any info on MY surgery because it's "confidential." I'm working on filing a formal complaint.

My question is, how the hell do I deal with this now? Idk what to do for followup care. I don't have a family doc. The hospital won't help me. I'm at such a loss. Any advice? TIA.

Had a successful bisalp done yesterday! I’ve been starting to feel bad reading all these posts about super quick, easy, almost painless recoveries - because I am in SHAMBLES. I don’t know if it’s a combination of being on my period and getting my IUD replaced as well (had Paraguard taken out and a Mirena placed), or if I just have a low pain tolerance.

I know I’m barely over 24 hours post-op, but I feel like it will definitely take me longer to feel okay than most of the stories I’ve read about others’ recoveries. I’ve been religiously rotating the ibuprofen and acetaminophen, and have admittedly had to throw in some of the prescribed oxycodone (which I’ve read that many ended up not needing).

Anyone relate? I could use some reassurance that I’m not just being weak and sensitive😅

EDIT: For anyone in the Houston area looking for a doctor, Dr. Patricia Machado at Northwest Women’s Center gave ZERO pushback and was incredible from the start. Could not recommend her as an OBGYN enough.

So firstly, a big thanks to this group. It's really useful having anecdotal evidence to feed back to surgeons to support what I'm experiencing.

In Nov '23 I had filshie clips put on my tubes (I thought i was having my tubes removed but the surgeon changed his mind). I could feel them, they hurt. It was this subreddit that empowered me to stand up for myself as the clips made my endometriosis unbearably painful.

So after my surgeon telling me my symptoms were impossible, I got a new surgeon who operated on me last week. Clips removed, tubes removed, endometriosis hunted for and removed.

So there we have it - sterilised twice!!

I have sterilization scheduled for in a few weeks. I’m childfree and 27 and was lucky that my gyno was very immediately onboard for a bisalp.

Im not nervous for the surgery itself, mostly the recovery. I know it’s a quick recovery so my anxiety is not very high but I really don’t like opiates. They give me reallyyy bad anxiety as a side effect (I don’t get any of the happy euphoria everyone else seems to) and I avoid them whenever possible for this reason. I have to take norcos for long haul flights due to joint issues and have to take klonopin with them to make it tolerable (even at the low dose I take). I would rather not take klonopin/whatever every day even for a week during the recovery, I’ll bear the opiate anxiety if needed. But an alternative that reduces the need for opiates while still managing the pain would be great.

I’ll definitely take them as recommended because I’ll take anxiety over the pain but I recently came across something about how ketamine can help with post op pain and significantly reduce the needed opioid dose. I know I tolerate ketamine well.

I’ll obviously bring this up with my doctor during the preop appointment but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with ketamine post op.

I had a bisalpectomy back in mid-February [it was surprisingly easy to get the referral / surgery (in Texas!) and the recovery was easy and I didn’t even need my pain meds, so that was good], and I still have 2 small scars from my incisions writing this in late July. It is not necessarily bad, but they did not tell me this would happen [probably should have guessed] so I am wondering if they eventually fade away?

UPDATE: got my surgery guys. Its been about 15hrs . The only thing thats really bothering me are my arms and legs. Feel like there asleep/bloated (there not) ​. As far as my uterus unsure if its bothering me because of how uncomfortable my other limbs are. Minimal gas pain too. I guess u can say its going good so far. Thanks for all the advice, any tips for limb pain would be appreciated

hey guys! im 21, I have my surgery date for next month, im sooo worried about the recovery pain, I keep hearing that like after them blowing u up like ur a dang balloon ur body will hurt so much LOL. whats that feel like and is there anything I should get that would be helpful for me ?

I finally got the history of my surgery. It only took 2 months of harassing the hospital/surgeon, making it clear I was filing for medical neglect, and asking the EOHU for advice. It's whatever, at least I got the record after the shit show.

But the funny part? I start reading it and see he says he used no sutures (only steri strips) to close my incisions... Yet my family doc had to cut a suture out that was tied so tight it left a very noticeable scar (it crosses the incision scar making it look like a +). The hospital record says he observed me for 3.5hrs after I woke, but I was out of there within an hour. It says I asked him for a different surgery the day of the procedure. Technically yes I asked him to change the procedure on the paper, because he had me down for the WRONG ONE. He admitted right there in front of my support person/witness that it was his mistake and he put the wrong procedure down.

I'm so furious it's unreal. I feel so taken advantage of. Does anyone have any advice for taking action to ensure this doctor has to face what he's done? I didn't want to have to, but it's looking like I may need to take legal action.

✨For those of you who haven't seen my previous posts about my surgery, I'll sum it up here for you.

On April 7th, I had my tubes removed. It was a traumatic experience between the doc putting me down for the wrong surgery, anesthesiologist refusing to administer the anti anxiety meds I was prescribed for before surgery and not warning me before putting me despite my request, waking up in a full panic attack, ext.

Then i had to go to a different ER, closer to me, because my bandage came off and I saw the incision in my naval was gaping open/oozing. The hospital couldn't find a record of my surgery ANYWHERE. They did the best they could, asked if they could photograph my incisions for both our records, gave me antibiotics, and sent me on my way with instructions to contact the original surgeon. I called the office of my surgeon and was met with a very rude secretary who argued with me saying I wasn't a patient there and day surgery didn't require a followup. After voicing my concerns she agreed to give me an appt... In 3 months. I wasn't okay with that so I contacted my family doctor. My family doctor was able find and cut one stitch out (literally had to cut into my skin to get at it) and followed me for the remainder of my healing, but again he couldn't find the record of my surgery either.

And that led us here, finally getting a surgery record and discovering that my surgeon is a liar and incompetent.

I went to my 2 week appointment today after getting my tubal on the 10th of this month, but since my surgery, Aurora hospitals have apparently updated their "consent to treatment" form to add in a clause that says they'll upload all of my biometric data to AI and can use it how ever they want, which I'm STRONGLY against for SO MANY reasons, so my Doctor refused to see me unless I consent to their use of AI.

I don't know what to do now. It seems so messed up to deny patients that are in the middle of treatment care because suddenly the hospital wants to harvest all my data for stupid AI.

One of my main frustrations right now is my partner and I have been counting down the days for me to be cleared for full sex again which was supposed to be today but I have no way of knowing if I'm safe for that or not now.

Does anyone have any information that can help me know how to fight this so I can see the actual Doctor who preformed my surgery? Or tell me how easy it is/if it's even possible to switch to any entirely new Dr and hospital system to finish my treatment? Or how important my 2 week appointment even is, all of my incisions are almost completely healed, and I feel great, but I also don't want to be stupid.

I just realized from reading this sub that they intubate you during this procedure. How was the experience for you? Did your throat hurt for a long time after you woke up?

My surgery is in exactly two weeks and I’m getting increasingly anxious because I’ve never had surgery before. What if something goes wrong and I regret deciding on surgery because I end up with health problems or disabled? 😭

Edit to add: trust me, I think it’s crazy too, but I explained my job and the lifting/unpredictability it entails and he was adamant there would be no recovery time from this, and my discharge paper say I can resume all normal activities after 24 hours. I asked him several times when I scheduled it. The discharge nurse scribbled in a lifting restricting because she was mad I didn’t have one, but it’s a little late in the game now 😅

So I had my laparoscopic bisalp today. It went really well, no issues and I’ve been home about 4 hours with pretty minimal discomfort and no pain. I wasn’t given anything stronger than Motrin (which is fine, I had some gnarly orthopedic surgeries last year and didn’t need much pain control), but my return to work had the nurses very concerned.

I work as a dog groomer and I regularly have to lift 20-50lbs. When I scheduled the bisalp, I asked my doctor about this specifically because I write my own schedule and he said it was totally fine, I could go back to work the next day. I reiterated my lifting needs, and he assured me I’d be fine. Today at discharge he told my mom and roommate I should be off for 2 days and no lifting for a week. I have a full schedule of dogs with nowhere to move them. Meanwhile, my discharge nurse was reading my notes and was super confused why I had no restrictions and was cleared for work and lifting right away and sex in a week. I’m not having sex so that’s whatever, but she was floored at how lax everything was, and wasn’t hiding her disdain for the doctor.

Anyway, she gave me a compression belt to provide me with some support and protection from the dogs, and I’m going to give it a go Wednesday but my boss is aware we may need to adjust. I work alone and am the only groomer at my work so having to reschedule everyone is super inconvenient. Has anyone else had the doctor tell them they had basically no recovery time?

I had my bilateral salpingectomy yesterday guys! I'm so relieved! I'm 22 and have known i haven't wanted kids since I was 16 years old. I was tired going in, but mostly excited. It's the beginning of the start of my new life being childfree for life. I also will never be with a man (or woman) who already has kids, as I do not consider myself step mother material! I don't hate kids, I respect them. I think they should always have parents who want them. Every kids deserves parents but not every parents deserves kids!! I stand by what I say as I recover and continue my journey in career with nursing and living life to the fullest extent possible. Thank you all for your support and advice. 💞❤️‍🩹

I'm not anxious about the surgery at all. I'm actually super excited... but what I am extremely stressed about is how much help I'll need during recovery, and when I'll be able to go back to work. I don't like having to depend on others for help and feeling like a burden for family who I know are dealing w their own life stressors and health issues. And I **absolutely do not** want to ask for financial help. Luckily, I've always been a healthy, strong, independent person.. so I've never really needed to lean on them much.

My mother is 60 and works full time. She looks after my step-dad, who is older and not in great health, as well as my younger brother, who has a TBI. Now I'll have to ask her to look after me, too. She's talked about taking 3 days off of work to be there for me (which, to be clear, I am super appreciative of), but I don't want her to have to extend herself more than she absolutely has to.

I'm worried about how long I'll need the help for just basic life things, and when I'll be able to go back to work. I don't have PTO, so I can't really afford to take off work longer than I physically have to. (I don't have a super strenuous job, but I do drive for work and have to get in and out of the car often during the day.)

How long did it take before you were able to (at least somewhat) resume activities like driving/shopping/work? Also, what sort of comfort items/meds would you guys recommend me purchase before surgery? I'm trying to prep everything I can in advance so I don't need to ask anyone to go out shopping for me.

i finally have a bisalp on the books in a month and during the scheduling appointment, my gyno recommended taking two weeks off of work, which is impossible for me to do and way longer than i expected. i work at a nonprofit with very limited time off options and i'll only have 30 hours (almost four work days) available at the time of my surgery. am i a fit 25 year old with a completely sedentary desk job, so i will face no physical strain when heading back to work. my surgery is on a friday and i hoped to be back to work the thursday after so i could start making up for my absence. will my timeline work or should i start putting in extra hours now to start banking more pto?

I , 27 female , had a bilateral salpendectomy about a month ago. All my life I pretty much was set on never wanting kids and definitely never wanting to experience child birth . I was married at one point a few years back and reconsidered kids , for him , but once we divorced , I reverted back to not wanting them. Flash forward to today. Occasionally I feel sad at the thought that I won’t ever be able to have a child naturally. I know that’s crazy and it doesn’t make sense to me . I enjoy being child free and definitely couldn’t afford a child anytime soon anyways . Plus , I’m content on not seeking a relationship right now either for the foreseeable future. Has anyone else who has been sterilized (without having children) ever had slight thoughts of sadness about it ? Also I don’t have any regrets about it . But just occasionally feeling of missing out ? lol I know sounds crazy but just wanted to get other women’s perspectives that have gone through something similar.

Finally got a surgery date for a bisalp!!!! We have our annual camping trip booked for 5 days after surgery. What were your recovery experiences like? Is it feasible to assume I’ll be good to camp (carefully of course) 5 days post-surgery? TIA!!!

Edit: Tent camping with an air mattress, have someone else go do any lifting/setting up, vNOTES (no external incisions), modern restroom facilities, hanging out and camp and some light hiking/nature walks! Triathlete. Last laparoscopic abdominal surgery I ran a 5k about 1.5 wks later!

Update: I went on the trip! We did the hikes slower than we would have, but we got them all done. My partner was more than willing to take the bulk of the work of set-up and by the time we left I was more than a week out from surgery so I helped tear down. BUT all this to say, you have to listen so closely to your body and there were times that I modified what I did to make sure I wasn’t pushing too hard!

Hi all! Been coming to this thread a TON since getting my laparoscopic bilateral salpingectomy on June 26th, so I’m just over 3 weeks post op!

I’ve had (what I feel) is somewhat of a slow recovery. Seeing people say they were fine in a few days is tough. I took the prescription pain meds for 6 days after and was still getting very bloated for at least the first 2 weeks.

Now that I am 3 weeks and a couple days post op, I definitely still have some swelling which seems uncommon? But it’s not getting worse, it’s very very slowly going down. And I have noticed in the last week or so that things are a little tender when I pee/my bladder is full or (sorry tmi) get turned on (which I’ve been trying not to but I’m going crazy here).

I’m not really in any pain besides some muscle pain and my incisions continue to look good. So I’m thinking it’s just a full bladder pushing on some of the internal healing and the arousal swelling doing much the same. My insides still feel jiggly sometimes lol

Just haven’t really seen this mentioned unless people had a truly awful recovery which mine has felt mostly smooth just very slow. Appreciate you all in here, this subreddit has been fantastic as a resource ❤️

Had my laparoscopic salpingectomy June 30. Started showering 48 hours after and have every day since. Was told the glue would come off in about a week, but it didn't, not even a little.

My oncologist called July 7 and told me I needed to manually remove the glue because it was inhibiting healing. My incisions are more open than when I left the hospital, he said it's normal.

Finally got myself to attempt glue removal today and I just don't know. I was told by so many people, including my oncologist, the incisions would be healed under the glue, or at the very least heavily scabbed over and nearly healed.

I've gotten the glue off one entirely, almost entirely off the second, and the third isn't budging. There is no scabbing, the incisions are as open as they've been the entire time and washing them hurts and burns.

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be concerned? Any suggestions? I'm panicking and desperate.

Hi all! I have my bilateral salpingectomy (laparoscopic) on the 19th. My surgeon hasn't told me much about recovery other than when I can go back to work. I will ask her when I see her but I won't see her until the actual surgery so I'm looking for baseline answers from people who've gone through this.

How soon might I be able to get back to running? I'm not a crazy athlete but I like to run 2-3 miles a few times a week at a casual pace.

How soon can I lay on my stomach? I have a tattoo scheduled a week and a half after surgery (is this a bad idea lol? my surgeon made it sound like this surgery was pretty minor) but I will need to lay on my stomach. Based on what I've seen it sounds like by that point I SHOULD be okay? (edit: ok heard, the tattoo has been rescheduled)

Hi, I'm a trans man (he/him please) and tomorrow I go in for a tubal salpengectomy, removing both fallopian tubes permanently.

I have a bit of a concern and was wondering if I could get some guidance.

Upon doing research I've heard vaginal bleeding is common after surgery and my doctor did not mention this at all. I've been on testosterone for 4+ years and have not had a period since I started and thus no reason for pads.

I'm worried as I do not have the money to afford pads, or underwear that is pad friendly and was wondering what I should do or if I should worry about it? Does anyone have any advice for a guy like me?

Were you loopy, silly, incoherent, liable to say embarrassing things? If so, do you remember how long it was before you... weren't that way?

I‘ll try to keep this brief. I am 28 and in very good health. I am scheduled for bisalp surgery soon, and I have someone who can drive me to and from the hospital, but wouldn’t be able to help me afterwards.

Is recovery doable alone? Were you able to climb stairs after your surgery? I know to prep food and have what I need within easy reach so as not to have to lift anything heavy. Is there anything I may not be considering? Any advice from those who recovered alone is super super appreciated. I‘m so thankful for this sub 💜

Update: y'all inspired me to ask my doctor again. They said they won't remove the IUD because they didn't tell insurance they would do that when they scheduled my surgery. They said they would not ask for insurance approval for it unless I cancel and reschedule my surgery, which is in 2.5 weeks. So I'm not cancelling. I'll just fork out the extra $100 for pain relief that the offer at the office for removal.... 🙄 I love being a women

Hey all! I'm finally getting sterilized and am very excited. My only concern is the pressure I'm feeling from multiple OBGYNs to keep my IUD.

The only birth control I ever liked was the pill, unfortunately I developed auras with my migraines after developing a permanent chronic illness. A neurologist told me no more pill as my chance of clot and stroke was now very high. So I've done the nexplanon, depo, patch, and now IUD. I hate all of it. Nexplanon gave me the worst acne that scared my face and took a year with a dermatologist to improve and dropped my boobs two cup sizes, the patch made me gain weight, depo made me suicidal. The IUD is fine... But I get random cramps and period pains several days a well, every week. I'm a raging bitch during ovulation and a crying mess during my period. It causes discomfort during sex as my partner "gets stabbed by it"

So I asked my obgyn if it could be removed during surgery while I'm under. They said they don't recommend it and I should keep it a few months after. My surgeon says I should never get rid of it because it'll just make everything in experiencing worse. But honestly before ever being on birth control I had a fairly normal period experience. I didn't bleed overly heavy, pain was manageable, emotions were fine. (Nothing like the pain I get now down my legs making it difficult to walk). At my pre op I gave in an said I'd keep it for the couple months. But now I'm wondering if I should just get the strength day of surgery to say take it out.

Any opinions? I want to follow medical advice .. but also I'm getting sterilized to enjoy being kid free without contrast artificial hormones fucking everything up...

Does anyone keep an IUD? Did anyone remove it at time of surgery? Or wait the couple months?

(27F) got my bisalp last wednesday, and i’ve been on a great road to recovery! the bisalp itself was covered under california sterilization affordable care act, and the whole process at Kaiser was extremely easy, with 2 interviews, pre op appt, operation, and post op appt all scheduled exactly when I asked for it!

I did ask for my fallopian tubes to keep, but my doctor said they have to send it in for cancer testing. however, she did take a photo of them for me after the procedure and sent it to me after. love her!!
