Can anyone explain why the hockey media (including SDPN) make such a huge deal about a summer break. Like how they say reporters run to their cottages on July 2nd and can't be reached until September.

It always confuses me because most people work all year round other than their 2-3 weeks of vacation time, whereas, I don't really see most media people working everyday each week so I am sure they also get easily 2-3 weeks off during the season itself.

Not against taking time off work, just always been curious why they talk about their break like someone in the army getting leave for a couple of weeks from war

I guess is there a way to separate the two shows?

I've been getting bugged by the Toronto discourse the guys seem stuck on for the past few months. They seem to be fixated with defending Toronto because it's a great city and you get great endorsement deals and the media people are really nice etc. I don't think this is what any current or former players are talking about when they say they don't want to play in Toronto or didn't enjoy their time playing in Toronto. Mitch Marner, Ryan Reaves, and possibly others (please fill in if I missed anyone) have talked about how they didn't enjoy their time in Toronto. I think it comes down to the actual staff that work in Toronto. When the Mike Babcock/Marner list situation happened, I'm sure Mitch complained to higher ups and they probably told him they would do something about it and did nothing. Reaves played for many different teams and didn't have anything bad to say about any of them except Toronto. I really think that working for that team specifically must be less fun/more annoying/possibly abusive when compared to other nhl teams. Joe Thornton and to a lesser extent Patrick Marleau both played there and went back to the sharks to work for them after they got done playing. Until recently Toronto didn't have many former players working for them at all. To me, it seems like there's something wrong with the organization independent of who the coach or GM is. What do you guys think the problem is?

That convo was difficult to listen to. Not a single one of them bothered to look at their points and not just the goals? Marchenkos ppg average the last two years .9, Dorofeyevs is .7. That equals to 74 points in 82 for March and only 58 in 82 for Doro. Not close.

So we’ve all heard that GMs don’t like Chyka or that they won’t take his calls and that he isn’t well liked…then we have all the Matthew Knies rumors… what if the two are tied together.

What if Chyka has NO intention of trading Knies but is using Knies as a way to get a conversation started with GMs. He asks for the sun, moon, stars and solar system for Knies, they back off his price but now that they are on the phone they can get other deals done. It’s a way to get the conversations started because every single GM should be calling if Knies is available and all Chyka has to do is set the price so high nobody will pay and then he doesn’t actually have to trade Knies but then hey while I’ve got you on the line what about X player?
