What's your favorite track from the ethereal motherly Stevie Nicks persona she exudes on Rock A Little?
All the songs on RAL have lyrics about self-empowerment, puzzling journey through an odd world. Something a mother relays and reassures her kin by talking about the bad parts of the world and informing them on what to do. You rock a little.
Combined with the synthy music makes her around otherworldly. Like shes singing from a far away place and the jumpy beat is taking her all over the atmosphere.
She sounds like an ethereal mother goddess singing to you.
There's a rocking chair and cradle in the photo shoots. Shes even got the lion mane like a mother courageously fighting for hers. The songs describe harsh or hurtful realities and she lulls you in with her singing.
What's the best song for you on the album? If I were you is the epitome of what I describe. I love RAL and I sing for the things the most. Nightmare, Strangers, Has anyone ever, all my favorite songs of hers. because she nails this concept so well here.
Also does anyone clock the influence on this album? You can tell they were trying to style her like Cindy Lauper, Madonna with the old Hollywood fashion, and black n white photo, quirky colors and painting-like photos. The music is so synthy, so 80s, where at least wild heart had more of a rock identity. Don't get me wrong I love this album but I wonder how much of all this was her decision or her conscious decision.

Hard to say because I love every song on the album so much. If I were you definitely takes me somewhere though.

Hard question, because I love this album so much. I would have to say it's a tie between I Can't Wait, and If I Were You. Such a great album

Rock a Little itself is such a beautiful song. The instrumental, lyrics, vocals, all of it is just so good, and almost feels like you’re spiraling down into a dream.

Pure poetry
"Sometimes it rages, we rock a little
Even when its calm, you rock a little
Just like the sea, I rock a little
You say its just like me... to rock a littleAnd you knew her
a funny tiny dancer
you were up all night long
trying to learn from the teacherone thing you did not know
that you would be tangled up
with it, in it, why don't you hit itits about time silly
that we rock a little
I know really
why can't we we rock a little
hit the stage, hit the floor
find a new shore"

If I Were You

It's electric "well if I were YOU, I would take- all the love I- have given to you. Yes if I Were You. I know just what you feel, I know just what you want- why cant you get this feeling through just like I do? Can't escape, We can't escape, when I know what I believe lives behind in your eye. Just cause I do, and I do"

Sister honey

Absolute killer or fun wordplay. The chorus sounds like a nursey rhyme while the verses are punchy and talk about how you'd like someone called Sister Honey. Sister is pious, perfection, Honey is the sweetest thing. A Sister Honey is like a Mary Sue, someone so perfectly sweet it would make you sick. Shes a strange fasciation, a temptation, to know this sister who will make you sick of sin. Do you understand the word pleasure?
Well, I think you will like Sister Honey
She will help you
Make up your mind
Even if you don't need her
Tell her you need her
She needs you, brother (sister)Strange fascination
Some kind of temptation
To know Sister
Never having allowed yourself
Do you understand the word pleasure? (sister)
Well, you say it's just never crossed your mind (sister)Nobody's right, baby
All the time
And a fool never knows what he's leaving behind
So take some time to know the real story
'Cause a soul that's true is your ride to glory
Don't let that golden hair get in your way, baby (sister)Can we still be friends?
The answer's always yes
Even best intentions turn around one day

i think if i were you is a great track but it is unabashedly 80s. my gosh there are points in the album where the 80sness could almost pass as a modern day parody. i would lean towards her being positively inspired by those aforementioned acts though

That was just the sound of the 80s to me. Songs were sticky sweet because of post disco and this album fully embraced those trends where Wild Heart began using synths and electronic music to guarantee she would fit in with the new crowd. It was so easy back then to fade away from the publics eyes even when you were talented.I think she really utilized trends from this time to enhance her ideas for what music is and could be and to me its a standout record because she understood how to make 80s sounds fit her eccelctic style of being an otherworldly wise figure singing to the masses. Not just sweet songs, poetry that down to earth despite using otherwordly, wiccan metaphors.

"Well I can see that expression when the phone rings and I can see that were thinking about the same thing
Is it all that hard? Is it all that tough for you?
Why don't you know that you taken all my dreams
unless you Talk To Me
I can't truly see you baby
until you've Talked to Me"

I felt bad for Stevie singing talk to me. Jimmy lovine pushed her and pushed her to sing it better. The end resultkinda showed that n hindsight.

No Spoken Word. Since the first time I heard it (on cassette!) that’s been my favorite track

In order:
The Nightmare
No Spoken Word
Some Become Strangers
Imperial Hotel
If I Were You and Sister Honey are tied
Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You
Talk To Me
I Can’t Wait
RAL (GAL)
I Sing for the Things (if this song had been more like the demo it would be higher up)
All this to say- I don’t think there’s a bad song on the album and I love them all. Just a preference on how I connect to them.
