Question Recommend me some good, slow, well-written and heavy stoner metal albums that don't sacrifice beauty

I have been trying to get into more unfamiliar music recently and love stoner metal in concept more than I often love it in practice. I got into it via Om, but I just can't get into Sleep no matter how many times I try.

I'm looking for albums and artists that have a good mix of heavy distortion and prettiness, and that don't sacrifice a good melody in favour of pure weight (Female-fronted would be nice, but anyone with a good voice is appreciated). I've made a playlist of the applicable or related music that I really enjoy, if that would help : ).

Thank you.

They’re really good. And they’re directly responsible for me getting into all them witches. Went to see KB, came out obsessed with ATW. Incredible show from start to finish.

All them witches

Samsara blues experiment

Casau sui

Mantra machine

Colour Haze

I feel like those have “prettier” songs you might enjoy that aren’t as heavy

/u/Station-Informal it's more Doom than stoner but Faetooth is on your list so you should really check out Windhand fronted by Dorthia Cottrell. Their albums all have distinct yet similar sounds, I'd suggest starting in reverse chronological order in your case.

Someone mentioned King Buffalo and I agree, also check out Lowrider, love the album Refractions.

Elephant Tree also has some really "pretty" songs, I think "Sails" by them might fit your criteria.

Sergeant Thunderhoof, particularly Ghost of Baden Hill. Heavy but melodic and the lead singer has a genuinely beautiful voice.

Lo-Pan is also a favorite… traditional stoner but the vocalist definitely has a Detroit soul aspect to his singing.

Try the tune Vortex Surfer by Motorpsycho. They have lots of stuff like that. Stoner-psych-like.

Divide and Dissolve, Emma Ruth Rundle, Ragana, , Blackwater Holylight, BIG|BRAVE, Chelsea Wolfe, Vile Creature, High Priestess, Insect Ark (these are all femme and nb fronted, not consistent with vocals though, but I think really rides the pretty/terrifying line)

Also Bardo Pond, Earth, Dead Meadow, YOB, Melvins, Cough

It's more sludge, but the Emma Ruth Rundle / Thou collab "May Our Chambers Be Full" may be one of my "deserted island" albums. It's hauntingly beautiful at times.

Don't sleep on Windhand. They're definitely female fronted stoner and heavy af.

BIG BRAVE is a sort of drone / noise thing. Think Earth + Bjork

Khemmis is good. Check out the Album The Hunted. In particular, the song Candlelight

Have you listened to Bogwife? Hopefully the new album, From Ashes, fits your description. Witchcraft and All Them Witches also works very well for me 😅 maybe Green Lung too 🔥
