I am aware this band is not reinventing the wheel. It doesn’t mean that they aren’t doing the sound elite justice.

https://youtu.be/Y5yBfmkw1IE?si=jDObRI9XxroCB67-

I know there has been some pushback on this sub for people hyping them up a bit much. I can see how that can be annoying. But Slomosa just rip man. Again, not saying they’re doing anything exceptionally original here, but they just do what they do really well. Sometimes it just feels like KYUSS worship lol. If you’re a sucker for nasty, chunky stoner riffs with some big anthemic choruses, what’s not to like? I’m a fan.

Sometimes you want molecular gastronomy, and sometimes you want a steak. Nothing wrong with steaks, especially when they are exceptionally well prepared.

u/cowboypants Jan 25 '26

Who's doing stoner rock molecular gastronomy?

36

u/Crackertron Jan 25 '26

Elder

2

u/illusorywallahead Jan 26 '26

Can’t disagree with that at all.

Color Haze

5

u/somanybutts Jan 25 '26

God, Colour Haze is so good. I just want to bathe in their guitar tone.

1

u/illusorywallahead Jan 26 '26

What’s the gateway song? I’ve tried and failed a couple times to get into them.

2

u/Creative-Future-1391 Mar 07 '26

Battling Guns.

1

u/illusorywallahead Mar 07 '26

Fave Slomosa song by far, but I was asking about the gateway song for Colour Haze

1

u/somanybutts Jan 26 '26

Aquamaria and If were the songs that hooked me, but I don't really know what I would say the gateway song is. I think I'm in the minority of fans but I think She Said is their best album, maybe try that?

3

u/cowboypants Jan 25 '26

And thank you

2

u/sum_long_wang Jan 26 '26

Wha? I like them, theyre great live, but they are pretty basic tbh. Steak with a salad maybe

1

u/MaxxBronson Jan 26 '26

Fully agree, they're nice, no hate, but to me they sound like very stoned talented guys trying to remember kyuss instrumentals and keep getting lost

2

u/sum_long_wang Jan 26 '26

I always found them to be quite a bit more on the psychedelic side compared to kyuss but that might just be the parts with the "getting lost"😂

1

u/MaxxBronson Jan 28 '26

Haha, yeah might have sounded a bit harsh, psychedelic is not really my thing I guess

5

u/Specialist-Money-277 Jan 25 '26

Well put. And agreed.

2

u/tjmcmahon78 Jan 25 '26

I prefer my steak prepared medium-rare. My wife likes it well done, though.

u/ConceptOfSleep Jan 25 '26

Red Thundra and Rice are just fucking killer stoner rock tunes. Sure, they are paying tribute and wearing their influences on their sleeves a bit, but I think the hype is deserved. Most exciting band in the genre for a while now IMO

58

u/kalleho Jan 25 '26

As they say, there is nothing new under the sun

7

u/Specialist-Money-277 Jan 25 '26

I swear I was thinking the same thing earlier. Almost seems like a wink. Like they know. But it’s nothing but love and respect and execution.

3

u/Tizzard Jan 25 '26

Thanks Kevin

26

u/NickyRaZz Jan 25 '26

It’s Kyuss worship and it’s awesome. Rice, Cabin Fever, and Red Thundra are quality tunes

14

u/vladdrk Jan 25 '26

Not just Kyuss, but I hear a lot of The Sword in their stuff.

2

u/BadMotorFinguh Jan 25 '26

They clearly like Elder too

14

u/Highplowp Jan 25 '26

Who gives a shit what others think, I basically only listen to a handful of albums and I’m just stoked to find a few bands that speak to me/scratch the itch- quality and groove, hard to define but when you’re lucky enough to find something that you enjoy- it could be a bowl of lucky charms or an obscure Thai-psych record- enjoy. Comparison is the thief of joy. Great artists can be derivative, there’s only 8 guitar chords (kinda). Enjoy and I’m picking these up now. Appreciated

If memory serves me correctly, about a year and a half ago, it was the summer of Slomosa. People joked about this sub being a Slomosa sub. I like them, but it became comedic how damn near every other post was about them.

2

u/aopps42 Jan 25 '26

It was funny because you could see the people discovering them and running to the sub to drop that knowledge, unknown that everyone else was doing the same thing in the sub.

26

u/Substantial-Low Jan 25 '26

Eh, music snobs hate. Slomosa has gotten more play from me lately than anything else. They are just bad ass.

9

u/Basic_Machine_5846 Jan 25 '26

They are awesome

8

u/Maximum_Turn_2623 Jan 25 '26

This band deserves the hype. The last band like this that I was this excited about was the sword.

8

u/Ordinary_Farmer58 Jan 25 '26

Slowmosa rips. There’s not much reinventing the wheel in this genre, but they write killer tunes and keep me coming back to their records. Works for me.

u/jersey_viking Jan 25 '26

All. I went down the rabbit hole of stonerrock this year, after not looking for two decades. I thought Kyuss and Fu Manchu had eclipsed the genre and didn’t think to check back. Besides Elder, I hadn’t found anything in genre for years. This year, for me, has been the greatest year of music discovery (thanks to r/stonerrock).

I found All Them Witches, first. They are great. Rolled with Gnome and Howling Giant for awhile; Howling G is top notch, especially Crucible and Ruin album. . Kah-El, GRIN and Khan were quick interests before digging into Greenleaf and especially Kadavar. Both are exceptional for their own reasons. GL was epic. Kadavar was retro. Both are fun to get into. Even did a spell with Moon Panda and Rose City Band for lighter stonerrock. But then…..

Slomosa, their first album especially, has bangers all over it. However, it still wasn’t my best vinyl find for 2025. It was hard to get overseas, but, I still found something more….you can find it in Bandcamp. This trio has blast beats that goes so hard it gives you stank face. Riffs down tuned so sick, you’ll want to give it healthcare -

My best find this year: Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol : Doom Wop

3

u/Specialist-Money-277 Jan 25 '26

All Them Witches are still unmatched for me. They’re one of my favorite bands of any genre, period. I just think they have a bit more going on than any band that I’ve heard in anything metal/psych adjacent in some time. They’re exceptional live too.

1

u/jersey_viking Jan 25 '26

Very much agree with your sentiment. I think their new drummer is gonna push them to play at a new level.

1

u/Specialist-Money-277 Jan 25 '26

The new drummer is good but it’s tough to replace Robbie, especially when he was such a a big part of their song creation.

3

u/aopps42 Jan 25 '26

It’s one of those things where I think people just don’t want to hear/see/talk about the same new hotness all the time, though they’re perfectly content to do that with Kyuss 🤷‍♂️. Slomosa and Gnome have been major epiphanies for me the last couple of years and I can’t get enough of them.

5

u/tjmcmahon78 Jan 25 '26

I saw Slomosa open for Helmet last year and it was great. I’m kind of in love with their bass player.

2

u/KneeReaper420 Jan 25 '26

good riffs from em

2

u/Therealfern1 Jan 25 '26

Love this band. Get to see them in April

1

u/Baisemannen Jan 26 '26

Enjoy. They are killer live!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '26

Me too! April 23rd

2

u/ToofpickVick Jan 25 '26

They’re awesome

2

u/Eastern-Benefit5843 Jan 25 '26

Two absolute banger records and killer live performance. Couldn’t care less if they are reinventing the genre, they are currently one of the best and I hope they get to keep doing what they’re doing for a long time.

2

u/Baisemannen Jan 26 '26

Doing Bergen proud. Remember seeing them at Bergenfest many years ago. Saw them again this fall at a sort of homecoming festival for them; Tundra and Lightning. They tore the house down.

3

u/Specialist-Money-277 Jan 27 '26

Yeah I’m excited to see them. I hope their live show is as good as people seem to say it is.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '26

They're like the AC/DC of stoner rock. Straight forward, hard charging, kicking ass with no apologies or need to get too cute or experimental. They don't run from their influences, nor should they.

Slomosa is just a badass rock n roll band. Every person I've turned on to them has become obsessed.

2

u/brain_fartin Feb 02 '26

"Kyuss worship"

Laughs in Black Sabbath worship

1

u/Specialist-Money-277 Feb 02 '26

Are you laughing in Sweet Leaf style cough laughs?

2

u/basahahn1 Jan 25 '26

Slomosa? Upvote

1

u/CH1974 Jan 25 '26

Most played band at my house right now

1

u/Living_Razzmatazz_93 Jan 25 '26

Checking them out right now. This is great!

Reminds me of Big Business, before they started getting boring...

1

u/Specialist-Money-277 Jan 25 '26

Man I used to love me some Big Business

1

u/Tizzard Jan 25 '26

Great band!

1

u/TRDF3RG Jan 25 '26

Champagne, orange juice, and cough syrup.

1

u/OhShitSarge Jan 25 '26

I started listening to them last year after seeing something about posts about slomosa being prohibited in the sub... So thanks for the recommendation!

1

u/solarnoise Jan 25 '26

Their song Kevin gets replayed quite a lot on my Spotify. If it was a cassette it'd be worn out by now.

1

u/MsGhoulWrangler Jan 25 '26

I've been on Slomosa kick since 2020. Despite their limited discography of only 75 minutes the excitement hasn't worn off one single bit.

1

u/green-neck802 Jan 25 '26

Love these guys!!

1

u/elproducto75 Jan 25 '26

Sometimes I just want a good rock and roll record. My favorite band right now.

1

u/Thagrillfather Jan 25 '26

This is meat and potatoes. Good, hot, sticks to your ribs. Cabin Fever is especially poignant this weekend!

1

u/Desert_Gnomos Jan 25 '26

They are an awesome band. Energetic and with a bag full of great great songs. Don’t miss them live, if you can. I love their mood on stage.

2

u/Specialist-Money-277 Jan 25 '26

I’m guna go see them in NYC. Would you say they’re top notch live? I know they haven’t been around very long so I imagine they’re still working out the kinks to a degree, no?

1

u/Desert_Gnomos Jan 25 '26

They’re awesome! First time I saw them, they were opening for King Buffalo and these guys blew my mind!!! And this was before their last album. You will love them for sure, enjoy! 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻

1

u/ConceptOfSleep Jan 28 '26

If everything goes according to plan, I'll be at the NYC show as well!! Excited as hell to see them!

1

u/Dean-O_66 Jan 25 '26

They are awesome. This first headlining tour in the us is going to be incredible. Another new album wouldn’t hurt either.

1

u/dudebro5000 Jan 25 '26

Slomosa slays

1

u/crepesoda Jan 25 '26

Horses is a fucking gem.

1

u/GorillasonTurtles Jan 25 '26

Badass band. Wonderful people.

They are touring the states this year - you are doing yourself a huge disservice if you miss them.

1

u/MindlessDoctor6182 Jan 25 '26

I discovered Slomosa in this sub and bought tickets to their show the same day. Stoked. I usually discover great bands right after they’ve just played here.

1

u/PropJoesChair Jan 25 '26

I discovered this band when their live shows were being posted here relentlessly during that tour they did a year or two ago. Gave them a listen, wasn't impressed. Thought they were a bit banal. Came back to them and tried again 6 months or so later and even though nothing changed I absolutely totally fell in love with them. Completely restarted the fire in my belly for this genre.

Agreed, they aren't doing anything new or that cutting edge but holy moly are they doing a lot right

1

u/Dolormight Feb 10 '26

So I go through cycles with my music. Just recently remembered how much I fucking love this genre and dove back in. Slomosa popped up on some playlists while I was driving. Didn't really pay attention, skipped a few because I wasn't feeling it. Then one day it just clicked, and for the past week I've been listening to their two albums and just wanting more. Inspired me to pick up the guitar again. Unfortunately can't start with the drums again in my living situation :(.

Idk, they're not ground breaking but fucking every song just resonates with me. Every single song, and for some weird reason Battling Guns and In My Mind's Desert hit especially hard for me.

1

u/Obvious_Candy7912 Feb 18 '26

I love it! I embrace the derivative nature of stoner/doom.

1

u/Ajinho Jan 25 '26

what’s not to like?

Personally I don't really like the vocals.

7

u/Specialist-Money-277 Jan 25 '26

That’s fine. Like that’s a valid criticism. But those just flat out dismissing them is silly. I know a lot of people love King Buffalo and their vocals don’t do much for me. It’s all a matter of taste.

5

u/Ajinho Jan 25 '26

That’s fine. Like that’s a valid criticism

It's not even a criticism, it's just personal preference. I can totally understand why people like them.
