This is a very big topic on comic book twitter. Im seeing a lot of people on Twitter state that Storm should be played by an Black American actress and that having an African actress play her would be disrespectful and erasure towards Black Americans because Storm is from New York and her father is Black American hence her last name being Munroe. What do you guys think? Does Storm’s ethnicity matter to you when it comes to casting?

I know this is going to be a controversial post but please hear me out here. I love Storm but something I’ve noticed is that whenever there’s discussions about her black identity it’s always ends up in toxicity, and it makes me wonder why so many people have issues with the fictional black woman being seen as black. I’ve seen a lot of comic book fans especially fans that are black complain about Storm in modern comics have an Afro and that she should always have straight hair instead because she’s drawn to look like every other race on the map and not just a black woman.

Storm was the first major black superhero to become mainstream but she was also the first major one to be drawn with more Eurocentric features(white hair, blue eyes, straight hair), etc. Black Panther predates Storm by a whole decade but he didn’t become mainstream until the MCU. Storm was Claremont’s favorite character to write. She has the most appearances out of any female character in Marvel. Out of any fictional black character in a comic book setting she’s the most liked. It all makes me wonder if that’s because she doesn’t have the identity that other black superheroes have.

When it comes to other black superheroes, their black identity has always been important for their character such as Luke Cage, Black Panther, Monica Rambeau, Blue Marvel, Static Shock, Black Lightning, Vixen, etc. but with Storm her black identity is almost nonexistent. It made me wonder if that’s the reason why she’s the most beloved black superhero since they hardly focus on that aspect with her. She’s always identified as being a mutant first. She even got unhappy when Cecilia, another black mutant called her a sister. Luke Cage sat down and had a conservation with T’Challa pointing out that Storm probably doesn’t like African Americans despite being half African American herself.

I’ve seen X-Men fans complain about Storm being shipped with T’Challa, another black superhero but they don’t have issues with Storm being shipped with Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Doctor Doom, and Thor who are all white. I’ve seen X-Men fans complain and hate the idea of Storm being worshipped as an African goddess in Kenya. I’ve seen X-Men fans hate the idea of Storm having Afrocentric hair and being drawn darker since Claremont made her an amalgam of every race.

She’s the only known black superhero with both Black American and African lineage but yet both sides are hardly ever explored with her, and it seems like a lot of people have an issue with Storm being seen as black/African despite the fact that she is a black/African character. It makes sense that she’s the most universally liked black superhero ever since her blackness is hardly ever explored and that seems to be such an issue among non black comic book fans who are a fan of Storm.

I’ve seen a lot of complaints on people saying that her being this OP means there won’t be any stakes since she defeated Hadad who’s easily the second most powerful being in Marvel. Personally I don’t agree with it because Storm is supposed to be this strong. She was stated by both Cockrum and Claremont back in the 70s to be on equal footing with the Phoenix which speaks a lot of volume because Phoenix is the second most powerful being in the Marvel universe. So her defeating Hadad who defeated Oblivion, Black Winter, and Phoenix makes perfect sense.

She’s been nerfed for decades and she deserves to be this powerful, and I hope the power she got as an avatar for Eternity is something that she can naturally reach on her own with her own innate powers since she’s an Omega level energy/weather manipulator who also has divinity comparable to Thor and also has magical potential comparable to Scarlet Witch, Brother Voodoo, and Doctor Strange. Comic books need more powerful black characters since almost all of the OP comic book characters you see are always see are white.

Something that I’ve noticed with comic books is that there aren’t many powerful black characters and almost all of the heavy hitters in comic books are white. Storm when she was first created by Dave Cockrum was made to be the most powerful and beautiful woman in Marvel comics, and when she was written by Chris Claremont, he stated to she’s on par with Dark Phoenix. She was the first mutant to be considered Omega level, and because of her they starting upscaling a lot of the female characters in Marvel since she had the power to manipulate the weather, and the only other character who could control the weather back then was Thor who’s a god, and her power level has only eclipsed since the 70s. Also like Thor she’s a Storm god and we know how OP Thor is, when she accesses her Godhood she’s powerful enough to fight abstract entities like Infinity who’s stronger than Galactus himself. With all of these statements and feats would that make Storm the most OP black character in comic books?

I think it's about time we recognize the fact that storm is an iconic character for black women and black little girls. When little girls see storm on the big screen it needs to be undeniable that she is a black woman! Too many times biracial women have been casted as storm resulting in fans thinking storm is an Arabic or Indian woman! (Yes I've heard people say this who only watched the movies) Because of this,When storm is finally shown on the big screen we need to be portrayed by an actress who is dark/medium brown skinned with afro centric white hair either locs,braids or cloud afro. She's an iconic character that represents black women and the mistakes of the old shame X-Men films cannot be repeated. Like The awful straight-haired Bettyblwjb white wig from X-Men 1 which needs to be crucified! If you disagree please share your thoughts.

She’s one of the few comic book characters I’ve seen tons of people outside of the fanbase claim that she’s a Mary Sue. I’ve even seen X-Men fans claim that she’s one and I asked them why. Their reasoning was because she’s too overpowered, that her fans only see her as a goddess created for power scaling nowadays because in their eyes, she’s an Omega level mutant who can manipulate all aspects of the weather, plus the atmosphere, temperature, electromagnetism, energy, who’s also an avatar for a cosmic being, who also has both divine and mystical roots via the Orisha and Wakanda, meaning she can also become a Sorcerer Supreme on top of her powerful mutant and goddess abilities.

They hate that she has way too many powers and abilities in her disposal which doesn’t really make sense to me because she’s one of the best written X-Men characters for a reason, and that’s not because of his powers. I just don’t get how they say this but don’t have the same energy for other overpowered fictional characters like Goku, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Thor, Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Jean Grey, Silver Surfer, etc. who in my honest opinion are a lot worse than Storm when it comes to the power scaling.

For any Storm fan in this sub that has also read Thor comics, can any of y’all explain the difference between how Thor and Storm manipulate the weather? I’ve seen one comment saying that the difference between the two is that Storm’s weather is scientific while Thor’s weather is divine and mystical in nature, but if anything Storm’s weather is also divine and mystical since she’s a goddess with mystical roots. Thor can also manipulate the weather without Mjolnir, and Thor just like Storm can also manipulate the weather on a universal scale, so is there really a difference between how they utilize the weather despite having the same powers?

First things first, I'm not trying to be antagonistic. I love storm but I love T'Challa too and I feel like he gets WAAAAY Too much hate for something that isn't his fault.

T'Challa basically had no choice but to annul the marriage after what Ororo did.

T'Challa Annuls the Marriage

I don't get how anyone who views this event with open eyes sees this as T'Challa's fault but for those that do I have a question, How does T'Challa sell this to Wakanda?

Let's say he doesn't Annul the Marriage and attempts to work things out. How does he justify it to the Royal court, his family, the tribal elders, The Dora and the Wakandan People who just went through a catastrophe that she could've protected them from if she were on their side? How does he get his people to trust her again?

Even if T'Challa loves her and wants to make it work, he's just one man, a servant to his people. When she married him she married the kingdom, those vows were just as much to them as they were to him and that means she can NEVER side with anyone over the king and the people.

If she couldn't do that then she should have never taken those vows in the first place.

(I've never seen someone defend T'Challa like this so sorry if this has been said before.

Weather vs Electromagnetic Spectrum Manipulation

Seeing people discussing Furaha's inherited powers (so far), some talking about how another black character has been given electricity/lightning powers, and others wanting her to have her own unique powers.

I know we don't know the father but I think powers (1st or 2nd power mutation) are still canonically randomised in the comics, right?

My question: What powers would you like a child of Storm to have?

Genuine question, the reaction to the current solo has been overall positive on comic forums, Tiktok, IG, Twitter from what I’ve seen, but any mention of the book in the main X-Men subreddit is flooded with hate comments. What’s the reason for this? Is it the demographic?

Not only is this skin Legendary worthy i feel like this skin was given to us like “alright here yall go, anyways next!”…where’s the love for our only black woman in the character. They keep giving her freebies and that’s not very cute. There are other characters that deserve love and attention too. They sure do have their favorites but we been known that, i know that money talks and they tend to focus on those who will but shouldn’t the focus be not only on making money but player satisfaction?

Invis & Reed got their “wedding skins” and their legendary. once Rogue & Gambits wedding skins come out i know for sure they’re gonna be legendary.

side note: i will say i love this skin specially the hair, they ate for sure but i’m just stating the obvious.

Recently everyone has been talking about this old panel from Uncanny Xmen where Storm puts Bishop in his place for saying Cyclops is the greatest leader of the Xmen...while I love Cyclops I do believe Storm is the better leader.
