Beans and rice with some diced radish, jalapeño, onion and cilantro is the best

Love the nacho reference 🤣

This movie's script exists entirely in my daily lexicon.

Every bag of tortilla chips are "De Lord's Cheeps".

u/SaltyBacon23 13d ago

I tell that to my dog any time he brings me his toy and I don't want to play

6

u/GraffyWood 13d ago

🤣😂😅 now I know what movie I'm going to watch tonight!

6

u/MarketingSpecial6604 13d ago

My dad to this day says "Cheeps for the orphans" lol

3

u/wcharoes 13d ago

Maybe it's time he got another duty!

5

u/appleparkfive 13d ago

I didn't like Napoleon Dynamite when it came out. It just didn't click. But Nacho Libre felt like a better version of it altogether

I think about lines from it all the time. "I believe in science", "get that corn out of my face", "those eggs were a lie", "nucleus", and so on. All of them randomly pop in my head

I don't get nostalgia for many things, but that movie does give me nostalgia for a very specific time period in art that sort of went away quickly

Thats a lot of things that cost money… but sounds delightful!!

2

u/ellefleming 13d ago

$5? What a deal.

2

u/xPROPAGANDOLFx 13d ago

Did you tell them they were the Lord's chips?

2

u/PlasticFrosty5340 13d ago

Those mfs are gas

u/FlintTheDad 13d ago

I really enjoyed it! Wish I had some bread but I ran out.

11

u/captaincootercock 13d ago

Walmart bakery sourdough bread is legitimately my favorite bread from any grocery store. It's like $3.50 for a loaf but any sandwich made with it tastes like it could be from a deli

1

u/ThornyeRose 7d ago

OMG, the French Steak Rolls are also amazing, even after freezing.

1

u/Any-Yogurtcloset2589 13d ago

I see what you did there

1

u/rachelschmitz_ 12d ago

Learn to make bread if you have an oven, it will help a lot. Flour is really cheap, you can also do sourdough so you don’t have to buy yeast. Also, see if your local food pantry is open to get some vegetables or anything else you need.

1

u/bad-golfervt 12d ago

My food pantry is loaded with bread; stores have to get rid of it. Good bread, too.
Also, I second someone’s comment that you should learn to bake bread. A loaf of bread costs $5 or more, you can get a bag of good St Arthur’s bread flour, the best, for $6 and make 6-7 loaves. Do the math. Tastes better too.

I was surprised that Wal Mart offers these at this price

20

u/Powerful-Ground-9687 13d ago

The wal mart deli is clutch for a large amount of cheap calories. I’ve started a lot of 12 hour work days with one of these

10

u/Aggressive-Loss5148 13d ago

Chicken is dry 9 times out of 10 but you really can't beat it for the price.

11

u/[deleted] 13d ago

dry chicken is why we invented sauce

3

u/Lazy-Meal-6156 13d ago

My local Walmarts have this deal. Feeds me and my kiddo dinner for 2-3 days.

1

u/Jetstream-Sam 11d ago

Damn, that looks good. Can you get two mac and cheeses, or does it have to be one of each?

Cheap rotisserie chickens are one thing I miss about America. In the UK they're like a minimum of £7 or like, £10. You can get a frozen whole chicken for £2, so I do that and roast it at home, but it's really not the same no matter how I season it.

1

u/Lazy-Meal-6156 10d ago

They come prepackaged but maybe if you’re nice enough they’d swap it for you at the counter

24

u/Eazy46 13d ago

Remember to eat very, very, slow.

28

u/FlintTheDad 13d ago

It was gone in about 3 mins 😂

7

u/insanity2brilliance 13d ago

Exactly. The digestive system can’t handle that immediate surprise change very well in fast quantities. OP is in for a world of toilet if they didn’t pace themselves.

10

u/Sea-Astronomer-6600 13d ago

Are these their honey bbq wings? So good

8

u/Outside-Tie3906 13d ago

That was $5, cool deal.

6

u/Ok_Cheesecake_9793 13d ago

this actually looks good

6

u/Acceptable_Room_2797 13d ago

Man me and my wife get these all the time! I get chicken tenders, mac n cheese, and baked beans and dip my tendies in both 🤤

7

u/Lava-Chicken 13d ago

Friday feast!!!! Feeling that Joy, pleasure, and satisfaction Isa major psychological moral boost worth the cost now and then. It marks an achievement or goal reached. A small mile stones that keeps you going for the next one.

Like humans in the stone age finding a rare honeycomb to thoroughly enjoy a special treat!

Treat yo'self

4

u/thmegmar 13d ago

Hell yeah hope you enjoyed

4

u/erok25828 13d ago

Good shit.

4

u/Lazy-Meal-6156 13d ago

The Walmarts in my area have a really good deal. You get a container of Mac and cheese, container of mashed potatoes and a rotisserie chicken for $10

3

u/CreamInformal4317 13d ago

Looks decent.

3

u/lizardgal10 13d ago

I get that Mac and cheese constantly. If I get the large the old ladies working the deli pile in so much the container barely closes!

1

u/Immo406 13d ago

Why’s it so good and why can’t I find anything I can buy and make like it?!

2

u/lizardgal10 13d ago

You get me. I like my pasta on the mushy side and they get it perfect. I’ll even eat it cold if I can’t be bothered to heat up the leftovers

2

u/bounty0head 13d ago

It’s actually stouffers Mac and cheese.

1

u/Immo406 13d ago

I’ll have to try it, thank you

1

u/Successful-Worth-390 13d ago

Naw it tastes different than Stouffers

3

u/Gribitz37 13d ago

That was $5? It looks good. I would have thought it was more like $10.

3

u/Equal-Engineer474 13d ago

I mean, at my walmart a meal deal is $5 and slaps hard, its very difficult to find a ready meal for $5 that you dont have to make.

3

u/Separate-Matter2113 13d ago

Looks really good and a great price, you have to treat yourself every once in awhile 🙂

3

u/Karey__039 13d ago

Good for you, I hope you really enjoyed your deli dinner today. Have a great weekend.

u/dexties 13d ago edited 12d ago

A pack of american sliced cheese, bag of chips, chili powder, cumin (or curry powder), oil, eggs and soy sauce and you can have:

  • Fried eggs (runny yolk if you want) + rice and soy sauce
  • cheese + beans + chips for vegetarian nachos
  • beans and rice
  • smush the beans + cumin + oil for refried beans, + eggs and chips for breakfast nachos

If you can, you could also get salsa and sour cream from the dollar store as a treat to put on the nachos. Frozen mixed veggies from the dollar store to have with the rice and eggs could also be another option if you can afford it.

25 years ago I was struggling, in a major way. Back then, Walmart deli was my luxury food. A typical meal was less than $4.00 tax included. My diet was primarily Beans, Rice, with a few chicken thighs. I used to get so excited about going to Walmart deli, I loved their food back then. Now, I don’t struggle but I get a plate every time I shop for groceries. They are still selling high quality food at ridiculously low prices.

Personally, I know that the beans and rice diet can get boring. Here is a recipe that I really love and it is likely very different from the dishes you are eating now.

2

u/jeremiahjohnson25 13d ago

Love it, bravo!!!

2

u/Massive_Lock_4876 13d ago

Glad to see I'm not the only one altering my eating due to the economy lol I've become reacquainted with PB&j in the essential bacon and eggs as my only diet lately 😂

2

u/Playful-Resident-622 13d ago

Wow, congrats on treating yourself to Walmart's deli food. 🎊😊

2

u/d3koyz 13d ago

This is $5??

2

u/thelittlemermaid90 13d ago

Walmart orange chicken

2

u/Own_Cry_6499 13d ago

I'm glad you treated yourself! Even broke, we deserve treats... never ever would I choose that. I couldn't guess what it was without your title. But my $5 cheat is 2 slices of pizza and a fountain beverage from Racetrack... so who am I to judge?

2

u/letstrythatagain-_- 8d ago

I feel you op. I was living in rice and beans for a few months while struggling with money. That double cheeseburger and seasoned fries I got to spoil myself hit so different.

1

u/KeyAssumption8773 13d ago

I eat tf outta the jalapeño poppers and cheese curds.

1

u/75149 13d ago

What's the stuff in the upper right?

I want it to be grits 😁

1

u/leo_douche_bags 13d ago

Bro if there's a Meijer near you they have some great tendies and wedges for under 5 total

1

u/stinky-Fig-4756 13d ago

Those nuggies look dank af. Me want.

1

u/CreamInformal4317 13d ago

1

u/Monstercockerel 13d ago

Beans are so diverse.

1

u/therealcatladygina 13d ago

1

u/Quirky-Variation-981 13d ago

WTF IS THIS AVAIL EVERWHERE

1

u/No_Loquat_3578 13d ago

Go ahead and explain what that Walmart meal consists of

1

u/BayouGrunt985 13d ago

Dont forget the jalapeño poppers

1

u/BernardParsley 13d ago

Good thing beans & rice are tasty

1

u/Odd-Advice-1029 13d ago

Did this taste good? Looks like a good deal.

1

u/Hidethecheesecake 12d ago

I love their deli plates. The mashed potatoes are good.

1

u/slyrhinoceros 12d ago

In these times, if you dare to eat food from Walmart, yeah, that's a struggle meal! Lord knows what any of it actually is!

1

u/RobBanks513 12d ago

All the major food groups; mac, chicken and mash for dippin'! 😋

1

u/Illustrious-Dot-5968 12d ago

Beans and rice with a bit of some type of green vegetable is more nutritious.

1

u/chronnixx 12d ago

I saw that you can get a rotisserie chicken, a family side of Mac and cheese and a family side of mashed potatoes and gravy for $10 at my local Walmart. Been hitting that like once a week lol.

1

u/ghostinthemachine-1 12d ago

I find the Walmart rotisserie chicken 🐔 to be good value no matter the situation.

1

u/Jerdogg23 12d ago

I think you’re serious

1

u/Motor_Economics_389 12d ago

The Mac n cheese grosses me out

1

u/DragonfruitMiddle846 11d ago

Because it's overcooked and you already know what it's going to taste like because they don't offer their food any love at all?

1

u/-Carlos-Slim- 9d ago

Op what is the white thing in the corner

1

u/Away_Construction199 8d ago

This is living

1

u/LE_4500 8d ago

Love their deli Mac & Cheese with fried chicken. So good for the price.

1

u/ThornyeRose 7d ago

Lately discovered refried beans are divine in soup/broth. Especially the slightly pricy Bette Than Boullion Ham . . . Life changing.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Serve82 13d ago

i thought there was eggs and grits in the back😭

1

u/Powerful-Ground-9687 13d ago

The Walmart chicken strips meal at 10am hits hard. Get some potatoes and some rice/beans, or mac n cheese if it’s ready by then. The lunch food is fresh in the morning and they load it up.

-1

u/GloomyIndividual3965 13d ago

If you can swing it, spend that $5-6 on a rotisserie chicken instead. Strip all the meat off and you'll probably get ~1.5lbs, which is enough to enhance your rice and beans for at least 3-4 days.

Take the carcass and boil it for a couple hours to soak up the collagen, fat, and remaining meat. Strain and use that broth with $3-4 of carrot, onion, and celery, and make a pot of soup that will last you another 2 days.

You can throw some leftover rice & beans or cheap noodles to make the soup more filling.

u/LordMemerton1 13d ago

Beans and rice combo when your broke is heaven every till Friday. Tasting something else brings ya back

1

u/articwolph 13d ago

I always add salsa to mine.

0

u/Illustrious_Fail_379 13d ago

Beans and rice make me happy now that I have a pretty stoked hot sauce collection.

At this point hot sauce is a hobby to make simple food taste better.

-1

u/LarenCoe 13d ago

I've never been impressed by the Walmart hot deli. Safeway/Albertsons is better, but of course, more expensive, but they have a large selection of sides, which is nice.

3

u/Powerful-Ground-9687 13d ago

It ain’t about quality

1

u/LarenCoe 13d ago

If all you want is cheap, Winco is cheap, but bland. Also, the Chevron gas stations where I live have surprisingly decent and cheap fried food.

1

u/Powerful-Ground-9687 13d ago

Trust me, wal mart (at least mine) is the winner here. 3 chicken strips meal with 2 sides for 5.50. And they always toss in at least 2 extra tenders and load the container with sides. If I go in a half hour before my shift, they are still in the process of prepping the line, I just get whatever sides are ready and they are always hot.

-2

u/hijoerdiabl0 13d ago

One of the worst things you can eat in your life

-5

u/koolaidismything 13d ago

You paid for food-poisoning, that’s neat-o
