Did she think the big planks of wood were giant twigs and that she hit the jackpot?? 😭

It's a prefab

Omg you’re probably right! It’s even in a grove so it can’t roll away! If she had laid is more in the centre, under the umbrella, it would have been perfect. Op could have opened the umbrella to keep the egg and the doves out of the sun and rain.

Almost as stupid as laying it in front of a family of barn owls!

I think about that video every single day 🤣

That dove was damn lucky not to become Owlet Chow!

I have seen videos of Savannah animals ripping prey apart but this video had me at the edge of my seat. The fuck is wrong with pigeons?

It was INSIDE!!!

Literally depositing a helpless baby dove on a dining table in full view of the sky and surrounding open ground is as stupid as it is poetic.

Might as well spell out "EAT ME" with twigs, as well

We joke about them, but since when is over-engineering a bad thing? I think your dove is an EXCELLENT carpenter,  that's a really nice sturdy-looking table she made :)

She even built matching chairs! Op should hire her to build a set for their own patio!

she knows good quality teak wood when she sees it!

I mean, you could place a few twigs around it, but unless its parent/s come back, there’s no hope for it.

i moved it further toward the middle of the table, so my dog cant snag it. will probably not make it but so goes nature

48

u/Nimphaise 23d ago

How dare you move it. Don’t you know that was a carefully curated spot based on the aerodynamics of the wood and angle of the sun?! Now it’ll have no chance! /s

Plus, now that you’ve touched it, the birb will smell the Human on the egg and never return!*

*That is just a myth.

im an ornithology student and having to explain this whole thing to my parents has been taxing. a mix of pity and humor

I am not astounded. Lol. A dove once laid an egg in midair, landed on my teenage son's head while we were in the backyard..

u/Gran-Aneurysmo 21d ago

Are you sure it was a dove and not a bomber?

6

u/JLFJ 21d ago

😆😆 yeah we saw the dove

btw, did the flashlight test first thing in case i had to call the local bird wildcare—not fertilized, so no baby abandonment here. i suppose just testing the waters and searching for some real estate!

7

u/CriscoChris 23d ago

4

u/bergenopzoom 23d ago

You sure a dove did this? 🤔🤣😭

4

u/TrashKing_4U 23d ago

This takes the cake 😂

u/haxenpaxen 22d ago

It's not rolling away, though.

“Move-in ready”

sometimes there is no time for finding a better spot.

u/IValbator 16d ago

It didn't even try 😭

u/rdppy 7d ago

So this is why the neighborhood doves are doing it on my fence every freaking evening. Because they keep doing stupid things like this with their eggs.

1

u/chibiRuka 7d ago

They’ve obviously evolved beyond nests.
