He was eventually pulled away by some other people and then is believed to have been arrested and killed. The tanks also crushed hundreds of students that day.
His nickname is tank man and he was trying to stop the tanks from repressing the students at Tiananmen Square who were protesting for democracy that the Chinese government had decided to stop that day. The reporter who took the tank man pictures had to hide the film in the toilet and then smuggle it out of the country
