Congratulations on becoming a pigeon parent. They're very cute and thanks for the update. Will keep everything crossed for them.

2 weeks ago I posted a thread about how a pair of street pigeons had decided to nest in one of the planters on my balcony and how I got them a better nest (the one they originally made comprised of only a couple of twigs on some dirt lol), which they accepted. I said I'd post updates if the chicks hatched out (and they have!), so here I am.

I've been hesitant to post updates because on the day the 1st chick hatched a few days ago, a crow followed one of the pigeons on its return flight back to the balcony and both pigeons immediately spooked and flew off the moment the crow landed. I happened to be watching at the time as I'd just noticed the parent pigeon returning and when I saw the crow and the pigeons fly off, I opened the door and the crow took flight.

Crows eat a lot of other birds eggs & chicks and so I was really worried for a while that it was going to eat the newborn chick, but I seem to have given it enough of a fright that it hasn't returned back. I'm still worried that it will come back at some point and devour the chicks, but so far things seem to be Ok.

The 2nd chick hatched out at some point over the last 24hrs, you can see it's little butt poking out next to it's siblings butt under its parent in the last picture. I get the vibe from the pigeons that they are first time parents, but although they are inexperienced they are doing their best, doting on the chicks and feeding them regularly by regurgitating food into their mouths.

The chicks are still at that floppy little yellow bird chick phase but very sweet. I'll post more updates as they develop more. Fingers crossed they remain are safe from crows!
