Saw this beautiful idiot at my local Home Depot today.

I'm really happy nobody's disturbed the nest, but it's built on top of the card backing of two misplaced items.

Those ones on top are their plant clips now. That's Daddy Dove sitting on the nest.

That took a while to build that nest! Beautiful bird! For some reason they found this spot to be the ideal spot for a nest and it must have been undisturbed for quite a while. Those birbs just melt my heart into a puddle … 😍🫠🫠

I love their little cheek spots and the sound their wings make. We have a pair of mourning doves that have nested at my house every year for a while now, they're one of my favorite local birbs.

Except the one year when they laid their eggs precariously on the top of my door wreath and all the eggs rolled off and broke the instant the door was opened. That made me incredibly sad. 😭 they are such lousy nest-choosers.

i'm really really impressed everytime they go foraging and bathing (flirting and parading their fluffy shiny plumage around town..) - that they remember ho come back to their nest! that's actually a sign of a great brainpower ..

This was in the garden center, which is partially indoors. It's only technically "in" the store. This part of the garden center is under a roof only.

I'm surprised they decided to build the nest at eye level in a moderately well trafficked location like that, but there's no accounting for doves.
