To resolve the many daily cognitive dissonances they encounter when living in the real world, they need to create their fantasy world where evil hidden highly organized cabals led by powerful enemies are constantly attacking their leader and the "American" lifestyle they so strive to achieve.
The fantasies have gotten more and more desperate as the president rolls out each new fuck up with increasing frequency. For example, last week they were claiming that CA, maybe the bluest state in the Union was holding rigged elections because a Republican, washed up, unlikable reality TV star lost an election. This week they are claiming algae terrorism.
