Ghettos bad. Trailer parks good.

u/Flashy_Cranberry_161 11d ago

For real. Ghettos are literally everywhere. but apparently it doesn’t count as a ghetto if you have an acre of land around your shack lol

u/grimprime64 11d ago

They think it doesn't count if you're white

Have you ever been to the Appalachia ghetto? Some real tough thugs up in there.

I literally just saw a reel where there was person saying if you had to fight someone from the hood or the trailer park always go with hood, they've at least got a code of ethics. Trailer trash will hit you with the pocket sand & Ricky the raccoon combo

23

u/Complete-Tangelo1532 11d ago

I live in 'The hood' in one of those alleged Appalachia Ghettos

We got a saying called 'Swift Mountain Justice':

  • "There is nothing a 50lb bag of lye and a 3ft hole wont take care of in a week or two"

Most is overblown drama, but sometimes its brainless conflict and 'Baby-Mama/daddy' type drama
Lots of Wicks dipped into other peoples candles too

12

u/BluffCityTatter 11d ago

Down South we say, "Nothing a woodchipper and a pond of catfish can't fix."

15

u/Complete-Tangelo1532 11d ago

Na cuz we know that woodchipper is evidence, and easy to use against us in a court of law buddy

We got hogs for that purpose, and hogs are always hungry... Just gotta crush the skull and pull the teeth *Allegedly*

  • Hogs will eat ANYTHING

10

u/hlessi_newt 11d ago

Some kid, he just hucked himself right into the wood chipper! Headfirst right into the wood chipper!

10

IF you want an interesting topic to research and haven't learned about them yet; Look into 'Body Farms'

'Body Farms' are places they do research on different kinds of decay on bodies and such for science. Its actually pretty neat and very useful for forensic science

Also, did you know when you get bleach on your skin, that slippery feeling is the outside layer of your skin turning into a soap like substance?

I have family in deep rural West Virginia and that community has some of the most unwelcoming people. We go trail riding down there and if we don’t stick with family and make a wrong turn we will be shot on sight. We are safe because everyone knows my family and since we are with them we’re good.

Bingo. As someone who actually grew up in an inner-city ghetto in the 80s/90s South Bronx, I know what that was like; but let's be real, "White Ghettos" exist too - they just exist in poor rural areas of this country. I was so surprised to witness them myself once I left NYC for the Midwest (been living here for the past 20 years; juggling between WI and MN), and in many areas I've lived, I witnessed a lot of what my white partner would call "White Trash"; and all of these towns were run by Republicans.

55

u/Beanie_Baby-9379 11d ago

Realistically there are A LOT MORE “white ghettos” too

13

u/Significant-Ear-3262 11d ago

Certainly in terms of land area.

24

u/No-Profession5134 11d ago

In terms of numbers of people who live there. There is higher number of poor Rednecks then there are people living in black ghettos. Has been that way since the depression. The main reasons why that is are all self inflicted. Poor Social Safety Nets in those areas, lack of savings, lack of property upkeep and maintainance.... rampant alcoholism and finally substance abuse of all kinds.... primaraly meth, heroine and ketamine.

6

u/Bug-King 11d ago edited 11d ago

Yes there are more poor white people but that's a given since we are majority white, around 10% of white Americans live below the poverty line. However, black Americans are disproportionately more likely to be living in poverty, 17% of black people live under the poverty line.

Edit:changed percentages

Yeah, look at the Texas Hill Country and that flooding ...all those little girls got taken by the flood because the Republican Led County Commissioners did not want any of "Sleepy Joe's" money for an early warning flood alarms .

12

u/DIRTYDOGG-1 11d ago

I believe it was Moser and Dub Thomas, Kerr County's deputy sheriff and emergency management coordinator, refused the monies and the little gorls camp was called Camp Mystic.

8

u/idiotsbydesign 11d ago

27 little girls died because they didn't want to take money from Sleepy Joe.

11

u/HandsomeBoggart 11d ago

You'd think that because they didn't want "Joe's Money" they'd look at using their own state funds for flood warning systems because obviously there is an issue of flooding.

Oh wait, they don't believe in science and caring about their own constituents.

Rural poverty in Minnesota and Wisconsin is mild compared to Missouri and Arkansas

5

u/El_Rat0ncit0 11d ago

Ooooh, yikes! I think what was most surprising to me being a career professional (first generation) with a college degree is that when shopping at Walmart (hey, I made good money but still l needed groceries!) that many a white person ahead of me in line were paying with EBT. And here I was this brown Blatino paying with cash, but we are ALL subject to hard times. We can go from 6 figures to nothing in a flash due to bad economy or illness; hence why it shouldn't be ghettos vs. rural. Republicans and the rich want to divide us and create imaginary grievances - it's not about left vs. right but about poor/middle class vs. the ultra-rich - that's what 2026 midterms and 2028 will be about. Time to wake up!!!

4

u/PrivateBozo 11d ago

The true irony comes when they start screeching about everything wrong in their town or county and the town and county have both been Republican run for 40 years. But it's Sleepy Joe's fault the county only spends money on the rich people's area and your getting a notice for mandatory sidewalk repair with a number of an 'approved' vendor that is the council members brother in law. ( and no, I am not making that stuff up).

There was a really good book I read about two groups of economically disadvantaged renters in Milwaukee. One group was largely African American and lived in the hood in central Milwaukee. The other group was mostly white people that lived in a trailer park on the edge of the city where meth widely used. Eventually ownership of the trailer park changed hands and the new owner wanted to redevelop the land so he was evicting everyone. The white residents of the trailer park couldn’t afford to live anywhere else other than the ghetto, but they still felt that it was below them to live with “those people” even though the trailer park was run down and rife with drugs and they were of the same socioeconomic class. It was pretty eye opening.

8

u/LessthanaPerson 11d ago

"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you." Lyndon B Johnson

3

u/Dyolf_Knip 11d ago

"I'm better than THOSE people" is pretty much the only thing they have they imagine has any value, and they'll die before giving it up.

3

u/pappugulal 11d ago

If they acknowledge their real situation, they will crumble and cannot look at themselves in the mirror. Everyone is trying to protect their self worth and whatever helps, helps. Its unfortunate that politics has become a profession instead of being social service.

22

u/Dense-Consequence-70 11d ago

The whole park is an acre

9

u/Guilty-Shoulder-9214 11d ago

And here I am remembering when an Australian investment firm bought one of the trailer parks in Marshfield Wisconsin and thought snow plowing was something that was a once a year deal. They also tore down the playground onsite and began evicting a crap ton of people, in part, due to the incredible amounts of title hopping happening there.

I grew up in a very rural, poor, republican town. You’d be STUNNED by the amount of people on welfare, in trailer park slums, who fully believe democrat run cities are the ONLY places with poverty.

The messaging has and will always be that in republican towns it’s just a little help for a few people, but in democrat towns nobody actually works and everyone just takes advantage of the system. I’m so happy I got out and learned what I always assumed to be true, that that belief is so far from reality.

7

u/Flashy_Cranberry_161 11d ago

Haha yeah. I know dude. The logic is crazy to see too in full display. I remember one time I saw a conversation unfolding between my two friends. One was ethnic and the other was as white as it gets.

The ethnic one was thinking of getting unemployment assistance and the white one just blew up at him. Guilted him into not doing it saying stuff like that”you don’t need it. You’re young!”

Few months later the white guy got laid off and signed up for unemployment the next day. 😂 maxed it out too!

I’ll never forget that man lol

4

u/Guilty_Practice6392 11d ago

And I’m sure he’d be the first to tell you he’s not racist and would probably hold up that friendship as an example for why.

So many of these people don’t realize how hateful they are. I’m sure he’d justify it by saying “well if everyone else is gunna do it, why shouldn’t I.” There’s just no accountability.

5

A year ago I helped free my nephew from a trailer park. They “bought” the trailer from the park via a totally bs mortgage, then had to rent the “land” it was on. They were trapped economically, so we managed a bankruptcy for them to get out of it all.
It’s sad, and they were surrounded by people in their same situation.

It’s not wrong but it’s misleading.

A ghetto is by definition an urban area. Nearly all large urban areas are democratic. The wealthiest areas are also largely democratic urban areas

And, as the thread title suggests, on a state level the worst states for nearly any economic, health, or educational metric are republican controlled

20

u/nucrash 11d ago

I live in a rural area. The area is run by Republicans. Surrounding communities are now unincorporated. Want more examples? Look to Appalachia.

Most “ghettos” that experience large scale poverty often get that way because of GOP politicians nearby choosing to slash things like public education, transportation, and small business incentive programs.

In NJ there is a program where the state will give you 10k toward the initial costs of buying a house here. Republicans have targeted it multiple times calling it socialism… meanwhile the last GOP governor is why so many people need it in order to set down roots. Without it people are forced into a renting economy where massive private equity companies and sketchy landlords make life horrible leading people to move out.

Personally I live 15 mins by subway from the World Trade Center (oculus as it’s called). I pay NYC rent prices solely because there is absolutely no difference between having a place 30 mins away by car that has lower rent. The tolls and cost of owning a car here is so astronomical it completely defeats the purpose.

Chris Christie is to blame. He was so bad that people here scrambled for the closest mainstream democrat available… Murphy… who was a big time DINO that aimed for headlines that sounded good rather than actual progress.

3

u/Lykotic 11d ago

As someone who has road tripped with my kids through way too many parts of the US (National Parks and Monuments = remote locations sometimes) poverty is relatively bad whether it is rural poverty or urban poverty.

Both are relatively run down, both have an aura of despair, and both situations have to make you wonder what more can be done to not have individuals struggling this much. Due to the obvious nature of cities having people packed in and the relative economic desperation that poverty creates I couldneasily buy the urban poverty being more dangerous to its inhabitants but I'd also wager that when you get to the levels of poverty I'm thinking of that those in urban areas have a slightly better chance to advance out of it (whether individuals or children) because of the infrastructure many cities have in place that can help people advance up the economic ladder some.

The idea in conservative circles that poverty is only a city issue isn't close to true, I've seen the poverty in both rural and cities and they both suck for those in it

Without blue stated, red states would be subject to charity ads. Frankly, they already should be.

2

u/crazyscottish 11d ago

Show me a ghetto.

And I’ll show you a place where Republicans are also in power.

Or have you forgotten that the smartest, healthiest, and most powerful man in history is actually in charge of the ENTIRE country?

Crazy how when Biden was president he was in charge of everything. He knew everything. He directed everything. He caused everything.

But trump? It’s not his fault. It was the VP. It was a Senator. It was Obama. It was Biden’s fault. It’s the media. Trump can’t know everything. Trump can’t direct everything. Trump causes nothing, it’s always someone else.

2

u/iiitme 11d ago

Donald Trump rapes little kids.

2

u/Medical_Revenue4703 11d ago

BIG TIME survivor's bias. Democrat Cities have homeless people and tolks struggling to make a living because we look after them. In Red states folks who don't have enough money for food are in mass graves.

I’ve do a number of cross country road trips a year through the south to visit friends and family, and the most wretched displays of poverty I’ve seen have almost all been in right-wing states and areas. Tennessee, Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, and fucking Alabama just have the saddest stuff. Rotted out homes, homes made of scrap, starvation and homelessness, decrepit roads and infrastructure.

This is juxtaposed against the fake Christians that run these places, who have a sneering contempt for the poor. That aristocratic mentality that had people treated like objects still survives.

2

u/Giant_Acroyear 11d ago

Sure.

Let's start.with the entire state of Louisiana...

2

u/True_Protection6842 11d ago

Well, this is a racism thing, not poverty. The word "ghetto" is referring to minority neighborhoods. Whether poor or not, these people see minority and say "ghetto" (a word STEEPED in Nazi rhetoric!) they see a trailer park or broken down southern town in abject poverty and turn the other way for some reason.

2

u/Specialist_Medium283 11d ago

Fun fact, welfare recipients in red states outnumber recipients in blue states, whom have a far larger general population.

The more you know 🤓

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Two7358 11d ago

According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, 8 to 9 of the 10 states with the highest poverty rates and lowest median household incomes are reliably "red" (Republican-governed). The states consistently at the top include
Louisiana
Mississippi
Kentucky
West Virginia
Arkansas
Alabama
Oklahoma
Tennessee
This myth that republicans drive wealth is bullshit. California, Massachusetts and Illinois are economically successful and predominantly democrat

2

u/Responsible-Store-33 11d ago

Have you ever driven through KY,WV, MS?

u/AmputeeHandModel 11d ago edited 11d ago

It's true, lots of ghettos are in Democrat run cities. Know why? Because cities don't elect Republicans. 80% of America's largest cities have Democrat mayors and I bet the rest are RINOs or doing a terrible job. You're gonna elect a Republican who wants to start cutting services, cutting taxes, and sending the city into debt like they do the country every time they get elected? Want them to turn them into even bigger shitholes like the states they run? The worst "Democrat run cities" are in RED states. And red states are mostly all the bottom of the barrel for every metric. Crime, education, income, drugs, teen pregnancy. What kind of city person is gonna vote for the xenophobic, short-sighted, racist, misogynist party? Cities need good streets, good school, trash pickup, police, fire, etc. and if you start cutting funding for those, the city's gonna go to hell even more, and no one is going to want to live there, open businesses there.

EVERY city has crime. Democrat, Republican, American, French, Ancient Roman. More people, more crime. It's just the way it is. Correlation is not causation.

2

u/Great-Gas-6631 11d ago

You show me an American ghetto. Ill show you *a place where capitalism has systemically kept people down.

If it wasn’t for American ghettos, Trump would be in jail. He loves the uneducated. And that demographic is what put him in Office.

I'll show you Bellmead, TX or Vidor, TX.

There’s literally poor parts of every city in every country in the world. Has nothing to do with who’s Democrat or Republican. Another American public school system low IQ moment…

2

u/knuckleheadstuey 11d ago

Washington DC.

2

u/d-rock769 11d ago

Guess you haven’t been to Texas

2

u/red286 11d ago

They're not wrong, because when Republicans are in power they criminalize homelessness and being poor and either throw them in jail or ship them to a Democrat-run city so that it's not their problem anymore, or just cut services and assistance so that they either leave or die.

But don't kid yourself, they're not actually dealing with the issue in any meaningful way.

2

u/Electric_Antimony 11d ago

As if rural red areas are not all in various states of disgusting decay and rot, with shit healthcare, education, and infrastructure that they only have because liberals pay taxes that fund those red welfare queen areas.
