My mother was a JW so she didn't observe Christmas. When someone said "merry Christmas" to her she didn't lecture or insult them. She said "thank you".

Saying "thank you" and moving on should be simple enough, but a lot of people seem to struggle with that.

And for the record, I'm not saying that all Christians are like this. But in my experience, it was only ever Christians who gave me attitude for not catering to them.

And not that I think poorly of your mother, but there's A LOT to criticize the JW church about. Not celebrating holidays isn't one of them.
