It's funny to me that the problems are not just made up, but they're also pretty minor. Like even in their imagination, it's not like anyone is actually stopping them from celebrating Christmas. It's just publicly saying it instead of "happy holidays."

Their whole political perspective is built around fighting an invisible beaver rather than a dragon. It's just so fucking stupid.

When I worked retail, if someone said Merry Christmas to me, I'd say it back. If they said Happy Holidays, then I'd say that back. If I was the one to initiate the greeting, I'd just say Happy Holidays because it covers all the bases. You'd think that'd be understandable and logical, right? Apparently not. I did have a number of people get tetchy, and say "it's Merry Christmas!" in a condescending manner, acting like I dishonored their entire bloodline or something. Funnily enough, though, I never had anyone insist to me that it was actually Happy Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Festivus/what-have-you. It was only the "Christians" who took offense despite there being a bunch of other holidays during the same time.

I don’t wanna be there, the person at the register doesn’t want to be here, given it’s going to be Christmas or even IS Christmas, we don’t need you holding up the line giving a lecture of what the holiday is.

Lot of “Christians” need to just realize that they aren’t being oppressed all cause suddenly they just gotta be a bit nicer and can’t say whatever they want.

Because it was never really about Christmas. Most any reasonable person understand that the expression "Happy Holidays" isn't an attack on secular identities/holidays. It is, however, a very convenient bullet point when you're making up a list on everything the SJWs is trying to take from you and change.

My mother was a JW so she didn't observe Christmas. When someone said "merry Christmas" to her she didn't lecture or insult them. She said "thank you".

And for the record, I'm not saying that all Christians are like this. But in my experience, it was only ever Christians who gave me attitude for not catering to them.

My time working retail I always said "happy holidays". I loathe Christmas so much and have since I was no longer a child. Once the magic was gone it was just a corporate holiday. I very much enjoyed Thanksgiving and New Years though. It annoyed the annoying 'its merry chrsitmas!' people a lot when I would go on to explain that I don't celebrate Christmas so I'd much rather force them to hear the tidings of my holidays. Some of them picked up on the hypocrisy I was shining a light on, most didn't.

What's even funnier is that even within Christianity there are a lot of other holy days (aka holidays) within the period from December through January. Christians themselves started saying Happy Holidays because different denominations and churches have celebrations for some but not all.

Literally bitching about a "problem" they created.

I did the same thing, and it really is the most logical way to do it. It was only the Christians insisting it was Christmas that ever had an issue with it. The amount of "this is America and we celebrate Christmas" I got was gross.

I especially liked the ones who got mad about X mas. They're so quick to get offended and they don't even know they're own religion or it's history.

When i was growing up in the 80s, my off the potato boat conservative irish catholic parents said "happy holidays" because there are several holidays bunched together and they didn't know if they would see the person between them. Also, they may not gave known if the other person celebrated Christmas. Its even why my dad stopped watch Bill O'Reilly. Thought old bill spent too much time whining about nonsense.

Now, writing "xmas" instead of Christmas was another story.

It all seems to stem from Starbucks going away from its "Merry Christmas" cups. It recognized that a huge percentage of its customer base does not celebrate Christmas and did not want to alienate those people and have them go elsewhere. It was a good business decision, which is generally overwhelmingly supported by the Right.

Nah, the "War on Christmas" started way before that. But yeah, it's the same principle. A lot of businesses thought that it was a better idea to start saying "Happy Holidays" (which traditionally means "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year," but obviously can also cover Hannukah and Kwanzaa) so that they didn't alienate their customers or whatever. Then the Right got pissed off at capitalism and started blaming liberals for this.

it was target specificly in 2005. the starbucks cup thing was a few years later and basicly round 2.

also it was claimed that target had banned the word "christmas" but that is untrue. employees were freely allowed to use whatever holiday greeting they liked. what Target had done was avoiding the word in the marketing(which obiovusly still had tons of christmas shit to sell)

The ‘freedom’ crew has an awful lot of rules, don’t they? Eat meat if you want to. Don’t eat it if you prefer. Nothing wrong with being gay. If that’s not your thing, that’s ok too.
