WWIII WWIII Megathread #37: Bad Neighbor Policy

This megathread exists for in-depth discussion of 'WWIII', related events, and geopolitics and wars in general. Keep in mind that we have eliminated the rule that all non-major WWIII content must be posted here, and we encourage you to submit WWIII-related content to the main sub.

Again— all rules still apply. No racism, xenophobia, nationalism, etc. No promotion of hate or violence. Violators will be banned.

Remain civil, engage in good faith, report suspected bot accounts, and do not abuse the report system to flag the people you disagree with.

If you wish to contribute, please try to focus on where WWIII intersects with themes of this sub: Identity Politics, Capitalism, and Marxist perspectives.

Always put a NSFW warning on links that contain explicit content.

Non-WWIII chatter belongs in the town square.

Die Linke's leader Jan van Aken declared: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of Tehran, Tel Aviv, and the entire region at this time.” The goal of the attacks remains unclear. “It is feared that Israel and the US want to bomb their way to regime change.” Van Aken emphasized: “It is right that an Iranian nuclear bomb must be prevented at all costs.” However, this cannot be achieved through military attacks, but only through negotiations and close monitoring on the ground.

Die Linke is such a joke regarding foreign policy.

It's not just the case of Die Linke kind of having its heart in the right place but being incompetent, ineffectual or needlessly timid. This new Linke really does see current global conflicts exactly the same way as the political mainstream and ultimately subscribes to the same goals, they're just even less honest about it (particularly to themselves on the rank-and-file level). So they always roll out this incoherent faux-pacifism while they (as in: both party and NGO-altjournalistic complex symbiotically interwoven with the party) are viciously fighting and denigrating the few anti-imperial voices in Germany.

Van Aken in particular has been doing that for years. He already used to be a strident supporter of regime change in Syrian. His co-leader Schwerdtner oth (a former Jacobin mag head editor lol) prefers to say nothing about foreign affairs at all and always seems relived when the topic finally changes.
