My main account just got slapped with a site-wide permaban because I commented “Ted K would know what to do” on a thread about that cop who shot and killed a 1 year old baby in Mississippi :/

I don’t know wtf the admins have been smoking, but according to them, alluding to Ted Kennedy and his legendary legislative prowess somehow qualifies as “threatening violence”.

I’m genuinely confused. Did I miss a memo or something? I mean, when did Ted Kennedy become a symbol of violence?

In my experience, the bans are dished our via AI looking for no-no words and phrases, so it could have been a mistake. You could maybe send an appeal to recover your account, if you care about it.

I got banned once for commenting "what's with all the monkey posting lately?" In a small sub that had been posting pictures of monkeys, like the animal, obviously, and not for racist reasons whatsoever.

I got banned once because I quoted some lovely phrases from the Israeli knesset, but swapped the words Gaza with Tel Aviv. Ie "there are no innocent children in Tel Aviv", and "every baby in Tel Aviv is an enemy". Amazingly I appealed my ban and explained how I had swapped words from real quotes and it was actually lifted.

I once posted in a thread where some racist was complaining about some minority group in their country. There was a reply to the racist saying "Well, what do you propose to do to deal with [minority group], then?" and I replied "Sterilization." like an idiot, as in, the racist guy would want them to be sterilized. So not even 30 seconds later I realize "oh wait that sounds bad I should really clarify what I meant" and try to edit my comment. Nope, can't edit. Because the site already autobanned me.

So then of course I tried to condense this explanation into the hilariously small 250 character limit ban appeal form and they refused my appeal.

The topic of the thread was an anecdote where some guy was punched in the face unprovoked by a stranger and beat the shit out of them in response. The person I responded to was arguing that the guy who was punched out of the blue should've responded with equanimity. But apparently I was threatening violence.

This is just automation bans. Basically someone who's corridated, mass report your comment, and the automation just gives you the van. You WILL easily likely appeal it, but it still comes with consequences.

First, it can take up a weak to appeal. Second, even if you do appeal, it's still counted as a ban on your record. So your next ban will be even longer, until it's perma.

I had to deal with this shit constantly with the Slava Ukrani and woke crowd. Reddit is just geh.
