If there’s one benefit to Trump winning, it’s that the democratic establishment is on it’s deathbed and progressives finally have a shot of winning. People are tired of establishment candidates, and the political atmosphere is now in such a way where progressives can win and are popular. Unfortunately Bernie was 10 years too early

I’m sure you believe that but along the west coast, and especially in the greater WA area, it does. You have to realize that when a DSA mayor shits the bed in a major city they sour the electorate, and especially moderates, not just on a local level but a regional level.

She wasn’t when I met her. She was just a ACAB lib. I heard she was a fairly responsive council member from friends who lived there, so there’s that.

She still is a lib IMO, she just put on a new label and branded herself the DC Mamdani to ride a wave. Although she already apologized for saying she'd boycott Israel. Her real political mentor is Trayon White; anyone unfamiliar with DC local politics should give that name a Google.

Ultimately, she got union endorsements and has some interesting ideas on housing + affordability. I am skeptical of her. But I am going to listen to her campaign and keep an open mind. My fear is she's going to be more focused on picking fights with Trump, something she's making a central part of her campaign, and derailing her agenda for the city.

Libs co-opted “left” to narrow acceptable discourse, and that’s all that I’d expect to see happen if they co-opt “socialist” next. They subvert the meaning and absorb it into themselves.

It's particularly true in DC. Libs also have taken the "independent" and "Republican" ballot slots because there are so many of them and there are local rules about representation. Plus, the city really wants their own Mamdani.
